Although bones have a super awesome rep, Milehighskates bearings and speedy lunatics get the job done just as well. All you gotta do is clean them every once in awhile.
Speaking of which, what do you recommend for the job? It's getting to be that time that I need to do some maintenance on my decks.
Welp, new girlfriend is officially fucking awesome.
Buying herself The Pintail 37 longboard from OriginalSkateboards

And is insisting on buying me those Original S10 250mm trucks from OriginalSkateboards, even though I keep telling her to stop spending money on me.

Save her money and tell her that those trucks will kill her and that board is overpriced.

This look good? Want to make sure before I order.

If its not hugely expensive go with getting bearing spacers, it makes a surprising difference.
4 bucks doesn't sound very bad, so sure.

Uhm, the trucks are for me. How will they kill me.
and she really doesn't care about price.
I really hate your posting style, you never explain anything.

My friend has the original s10 trucks (Paid a ton for them in the UK too) and what I found was that they sort of "Sprung" into a full lock when turning but had ridiculous resistance at all other times.
It might just be that i'm used to a classic bushing setup though but to me they just seemed to have either "Full turn" or no turn.
Alright, we're going for the Caliber Fifty 10" Blackouts then, considering everyone is glorifying them.

They're nice trucks, good choice.
[editline]18th January 2012[/editline]
Also in regards to the Pintail 37; from what I can gather its a nice board but it is limited to being a general cruiser, its also expensive.
Personally I'd suggest going with a different design to the pintail and shopping around a bit since a lot of smaller companies are making amazing decks at the moment. However in the end its all personal choice.

At the start their going to have crazy return that is going to buck you out of carves, and eventually they'll go dead because their powered by springs that are going to loose their spring pretty fast. Their also going to get massive wobble once you hit any speed at all.

Acetone and than speed lube. I think thats how its spelled, acid-tone is how it sounds. Shit will destroy dirt.

Bearing spacers man. YOU NEED THEM. Looks a little overpriced on everything but that is probably canadian dollar per american dollar.

Original trucks although are fucking fun to ride require a lot of care or the wave cam will break. They also don't have the strongest metal around. Plus the none bushing design means your gonna wobble over 20mph. Calibers are the latest and greatest on the market and everyone loves them. The bushing seat is sweet and you'll be stable at any speed and have a great feeling of carving and sliding.

it makes a hell of a difference for sliding.

shut your face right now
Ok, ordering soon, can't wait to ride.
I was talking to a guy at the hardware shop about how to clean my bearings and he recommended carb cleaner as it had similar solvents to alcohol yet it was still oil-based.
I also went with his advice and used a 2:1 oil to grease mixture as I was broke as fuck at the time. Needless to say its viscous enough for dirt not to interfere but at the same time doesn't slow them down.

Just never use WD-40 thats the key

I hope you enjoy it man because I love my setup which is like pretty much identical to yours minus a small features.
Still not sure if I wanna go with a new board or keep the one that I had cut out. It's nice and all but the mixture of rain and dirt really get to the wood with it not being fiber glassed and all.

Look at the silverfish classifieds and you can find a decent deck with a little love to it for like $70

Whatever works haha
I know a kid who rides his longboard through the halls at my school. He also brings in his scooter from time to time and gives people rides, but he usually just rides his ass to the principles office haha
do you guys actually take your bearings apart or just wipe down the outside?
back when i used to skate I actually popped off the fronts.

people longboard through the tunnels at uni here, it's pretty annoying considering there's barely enough room for people to walk through them.

If they have double shields than yes I pop one off. If it has a small fiber cage on the inside ill do nothing but dump it in acetone.
I'm 5'9"
I am looking at these boards

http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=JASD395C&Category_Code=JS
but I'm not sure if these are good for going fast on roads/sidewalks on flat terrain
I also want to learn to carve and I don't know if these boards or good for that, or for that matter, if all boards are good for that (although since carving is a longboard thing I would assume most boards are good for carving)
[editline]17th January 2012[/editline]
I was just inspired a lot by videos of people hill bombing going REALLY fast, although it's a bit disappointing that it seems like I won't be able to get going that fast on flat terrain, although I would like to go as fast as absolutely possible
are these boards good for carving too?

and by these boards I meant the second one because that's the one I'm thinking of getting

Double cones for bushings and its a carving machine.
I can't checkout on switch back, keeps telling me that "An error has been occured during request processing. Try again please".
double cones? holy shit, and i thought my barrel+cone setup was a carving machine.

out of control doesn't sound as appealing considering i've never ridden a longboard before

also that deck is sold out, are there any that are just like it?
