I know this is a bigass bump, but I just got my Vanguard yesterday in the mail. I started riding it today and holy fuck is it a blast! Great thread. My board: [editline]15th October 2010[/editline] I plan on getting some O-tangs In Heat with Super Reds.
<3 longboarding
I grabbed a Kracked Skullz 42" the other day. I. Love. It. All the spring and durability of a Loaded, half the cost! [editline]15th October 2010[/editline] I still use O-Tang Durians, though.

How long did it take you guys to get good at riding?
How long did it take you guys to get good at riding?
Depends on what you interpret as "good". It took me about a week after stepping on a board for the first time get my balance down. At that point I could get myself around on the board without stumbling or tripping up too much. However, it took me a couple months before I began carving/bombing hills with confidence. Slides and dancing came much, much later.
Anyone in the UK want to buy a Loaded Dancer, with o'tang 4pres' and adam c paris trucks? I bought one just before I gave up longboarding.
long boarding junior high shit
Long boards Reg? Man it's all about the shortboards. What do you think Twister?

looks cool but also looks like you need to know how to skatebord; so i'm fucked
I just started longboarding a couple weeks ago. I saved up around 350 bucks, bought a Rayne Hellcat with Bones Swiss bearings, and I love it so far.
Seems like the kind of sport that should be accompanied by flowered shirts and pretty sunsets
looks cool but also looks like you need to know how to skatebord; so i'm fucked
I think longboarding is definitely different from skateboarding. I can't ride a skateboard to save my life, but I'm slowly learning how to use my longboard. It's all about practice pretty much, and it's way worth it, especially when you're near the beach.
Just noticed this thread. I love longboarding, been riding about 9 months now. Pretty stoked. My setup: 'Urban Blue' 104 Paris 180's Otang Stims Hopefully going to expand to a complete 'Earthwing' Miniglider soon. Asswell as the board above. One for technical slides/hills other for cruising and all that jazz.
Reading this thread makes me seriously want to get into longboarding. How much is a decent longboard going to cost me? also what type of board is best for just like commuting and cruising?
people who does it cause everyone else is shouldnt in my opinion, i get a feeling they dont enjoy it and is just wasteing money
I was going to get a longboard for cruising around town on but I went to the only sport shop in a 30 mile radius and they had two. One was $150 and one was $200. I was pissed. They had no decks either let alone the rest of the equipment so I could build my own.

[editline]15th October 2010[/editline] And they're pretty damn cheap compared to a lot of other sites.

Can't you get like a gift card?
So I hate to be another guy requesting some assistance in a purchase, but what's a good board for commuting/travelling, but also good for tearing up hills? I'm interested in Bert sliding, but obviously I've got to get the basics down first, walk before run and all that. [editline]16th October 2010[/editline] Also I've had experience with regular skateboards, but it was a few years ago. I still have my skate tool though.
I'm probably the last guy you should listen to since I just got my board 2 days ago, but I'd get something between 35" and 45". Any longer and portability becomes a problem, for me at least. And how much are you willing to drop? I bought mine with the same purpose as you (commuting, hills, etc), so I bought the Vanguard w/ flex 3.
Here in Colorado a ton of people use longboards. More than regular skateboards. I didn't think there was a whole lot to it until I saw this video... Pretty cool stuff.
Yeah, when I was 3 and we lived in the Springs, my mum said that kids were doing that all the time.
when i was a kid i used to skateboard, i never was any good at it though but ive grown to like the more chill riding with longboards more.
I skate quite a bit and love it, but I've always wanted to try Longboarding. What puts me off is the size of the board and the lack of terrain for it where I live. If you want to bomb hills you have to make an event of it, it seems. Looks so fun though!
The only way I ride comfortably is apperently the worst way to do it. I have horrible balance on a skateboard, but can unicycle and slackline pretty dam well. More than two wheels is just silly. Haven't tried a long board though, it looks much more comfortable and less douche-baggy (I'm slightly biased, as all the skate boarders I know are drop outs, idiots, and drug users).
Can't you get like a gift card?
Yeah I could but that's where my finance issue comes in.
