• What happens to humanity after we develop Virtual Reality?

I suggest you all read "The Feed". They get hacked in that, but it's not quite virtual reality... it's close enough though. It's about people essentially having a computer in thier brains allowing them to project holograms (that only they, or people logged onto thier viewing page or whatever) can see, and playing games by making the area around them look and feel like somewhere else... so virtual reality as far as it goes. It's kinda short, and ends wierd, but worth it as it's around five dollahs'. And do you suggest me reading Last book in the universe. Front looks extremely similiar to Farenheit 451, which I loved. I know not to judge a book by it's cover, but still.
I see virtual reality coming along as a type of addictive drug.

I've thought about this in the past. I thought of a movie idea too. A guy gets sent into the future as part of a science experiment gone wrong and in this future world humanity lives entirely inside VR. The world has become a desolate wasteland since nobody cared about it anymore, so they harvested all the resources they could and fucked up the rainforests etc. Now it's permanently night because of crazy huge power plants pumping fumes into the sky because it's the only way they can power this massive VR system. The only humans outside of VR are the technicians, who control the VR world. BUT THEN, a meteorite/aliens/something bad is heading for Earth. With all of humanity inside virtual reality, who is left to save the world from this catastrophe? Dunno mang, that's all I got. Cept at the end obviously the VR system gets accidentally blown up and most of the people see the real world for the first time and they're like "fuck VR let's do this thang".
We see living in a fake reality and separate from nature as outlandish but we are already doing it today. Look around you, what do you see? Walls, furniture, objects of artificial origin. Even if we ignore the computer and monitor in front of you, the world we live in is completely unnatural. We've constructed cities and roads covering vast swathes of land, and we rarely, if ever, venture outside these limits. What lies outside we call 'wilderness' and write it off as a novelty. But that is what the real world is, not the artificial one we have created around us to shut it off. The things we worry about from day to day aren't real either. 'How will I make money?', 'what product should I buy?', 'where is the nearest gas station?'. These are all artificial problems. Money is nothing more than something we have created to solve the age old problem that started with a man who owned two cows, its existence entirely relies on us believing it exists. Most of our thoughts are already occupied solely by this grand game we have set up around us. The artificial reality of civilization, our own virtual reality.
If we did that we would have some sort of brain interface. If that was the case we could make remote control bodies and not even bother with the virtual part, Instead overcoming our bodies frailties and exploring space and the universe much easier.
Sounds more like Cortex Command
If there was something as Virtual Reality, than the christians can finally make there own christian community instead of annoying atheists till they kill themselves.
That good sir.
Have you even read Fahrenheit451?

If that was the case we could make remote control bodies and not even bother with the virtual part, Instead overcoming our bodies frailties and exploring space and the universe much easier. Of course there would be reasons for leaving the VR world. for instance could you imagine the internet except everyone on it can look just how they want. and they can speak? I'd be like some kind of horror film.
Whoa Cortex Command shit right there.
What if in virtual reality you put on another virtual reality helmet and you keep on doing that until your brain explodes.
Extreme lag due to having to read your brain waves through like 10 different realities.

If Linden Labs develops it, it'll be shit.
