You know, back in the early days of Christianity, they were actually really nice people, did you know that? They were persecuted and tortured for their beliefs, sure, but they were extremely united in their ideas. This is the same concept, only applied to a post-apocalyptic society.
Conflict of beliefs, not the religion themselves, causes violence. Religion only enhances it, because there's one religion that tells you to kill those who don't believe in you.
Can we ban him cause he is flaming

Even Atheists (namely, Asimov) have admitted that religion, in the absence of any other unifying force, is a powerful unifying tool, even the most basic and primitive cultures on Earth have some form of religion, it's a powerful and binding societal force when no other foce is present.
You don't need unification You need more guns than the other guy...
You don't want more violence in a post-apocalyptic environment, you need peace and cooperation, violence would only result in either fear or hatred, both of which NEVER result in a lasting peace. You need unification in a post-apocalyptic setting, it's the first step to rebuilding, simply killing people in your way is a sure fire way to diminish Earth's already small Human population without accomplishing anything.
Report him for flaming or trolling -_-
oh wow, I just realized that in Matthew's Aramaic quoting of Jesus on the cross, Eli is the expression for "My God" and so the title of this movie could be thought of as "The Book of My God" pretty cool stuff

Violence We had more guns than someone This is how it's meant to be, this is human nature Eventually, these roaming gangs of wastelanders will form into much larger groups, these groups will form with others, and eventually, there will be either 2 GANGS, or 2 CIVIL FACTIONS And this is the only way to do it. They won't LISTEN to religion, or REASON for that matter
Just got back from seeing it, fucking amazing movie. [sp] I can't believe he was blind though! [/sp] Edit:
Best twist right
[sp]She even says "It's been so long, I can't remember how" or something along those lines. She knew how, and I'd be willing to bet as far as the story goes, she knows how, she just didn't want to tell Carnigie.[/sp] [editline]11:07PM[/editline] That part was fucking hysterical. The whole theater was cheering and clapping when he did that.
Haha yeah the same thing happened at the theater I was at. People were laughing their asses off! [sp] I was sad when they both died though =/ [/sp]
I yelled out OH GOD!
Bitches don't know bout' my book
Just got back from seeing it as well. I thought it was amazing, though not too sure about my friends opinions. It reminded us all of Fallout, and me a mix of fallout and borderlands. PS: I'm atheist.
Anyone notice that one of scences look like mad max with no dog'
Back from watching this movie. Thought it was amazing. [sp]But i thought he was blind from the beginning. Wasn't completely for sure though.[/sp]

Looks like a good movie
Use spoiler tags smart one.
Fixed. Also terribly sorry to anyone that haven't watch the movie that read it.
It was okay, felt more like a sermon than a post-apocalyptic thriller, though it has some good parts. [sp]It wasn't so much the idea of using Christianity to help bring back civilization that bothered me, it's just the the whole, you know, he's blind and kills dozens of people because God is aiding him thing. If God could protect him from bullets and allowing him to see, He might as well just launch the damn bible to Alcatraz instead of causing a man to walk there for 30 years while forcing him to kill people in his way.[/sp]
Because the second someone mentions religion as a plot device it becomes automatically unbearable. I don't fucking complain when they have a movie that openly mocks religion, why are you freaking out over something that has a bible in it, especially considering the "crazy" concept that religion might help unite people when they have nothing to unite for?
It wasn't so much as me "freaking out" as it was me going "meh". My problem is that it seems like such a pointless thing to fight over. Why would the town mayor send all his men after Eli just for his little book, especially if he knew it was merely a bible. IMDB seems to imply that the mayor already knew it was a religious text and just wanted to use it to rule his people. Also, couldn't Eli simply read the book to them? There are many movies I have enjoyed that have religious overtones (most seem to anyway). The "dividing line", as I see it, is that those good movies used religion as either a historical 'background' or as a emotional appeal. Examples of those include your typical disaster movie (Deep impact, Armageddon, 2012, etc). The movies that I consider bad are those that use religion as the central motivation or set piece (The Passion of the Christ, The Davinci Code, etc). I'm sure the action and acting in the movie are worth the price of admission, but I really don't feel like encouraging films like this with my money (I realize it won't be missed). There are many other things of far greater value that Eli's book could have contained; so many things that would provide a far more satisfying motivation for events of the movie.
I got back from it shit was awesome
I don't care.
[sp]turned out it was a bible, as expected[/sp]
Looks fucking awesome can't wait!
[sp]The book is a Bible.[/sp] I figured out that a LONG time ago... I believe that is supposed to be the twist...
That's not a twist at all really, if you pay attention there are tons of signs that tip it off before. I thought it was a pretty good movie. The twist is that [sp]he's blind[/sp]
Watched it last night. Thought it was bladdy brilliant. And yes, at the sofa gun bit, all the people in my cinema cheered too.
I want to go see this. There's just no cinemas that runs it near me.
Man, just saw this movie :D. KICK ASS!
Did anybody else notice that when they were rowing the boat it was obviously green screened?
Gonna see it sometime this week. Hopefully.
