I loved the whole vibe and feel of the movie. It's definitely one of the better movies I've seen in these past few years, especially after seeing the atrocity that was Leap Year.
yeah Leap Year was... a fuck.
It was okay, felt more like a sermon than a post-apocalyptic thriller, though it has some good parts. [sp]It wasn't so much the idea of using Christianity to help bring back civilization that bothered me, it's just the the whole, you know, he's blind and kills dozens of people because God is aiding him thing. If God could protect him from bullets and allowing him to see, He might as well just launch the damn bible to Alcatraz instead of causing a man to walk there for 30 years while forcing him to kill people in his way.[/sp]
God had the Hebrews walk through the desert for 40 years, it was all part of the overall plan, like he converted Jackie from that 70's show to his cause and all that.
I decided to not see it, so I read the twist, [sp]explains the bad fighting choreography in the trailer[/sp]

I must say it really is a good movie. Oh, and[sp]If I was Eli, I would have totally sexed Mila Kunis.[/sp]
This movie was filmed in a small town near my state. Glad to see the movie business is coming close :slick:
my names eli
my names eli
Mines Mila, wanna fuck?
I loved it, but it had such overly Christian tone. I found the ending kind of, eye-brow raising-ness:" [sp] So, the Christian bible is save humanity, but the Koran and the other religion bibles won't? That was like a major Christian propaganda[/sp]
Dear god not this shit again
Christianity is about bringing people together by using fear. Therefore I feel biased against anything to do with it.
Mines Mila, wanna fuck?
ok

That was like a major Christian propaganda[/sp]
I think you are assuming too much: [sp]That 'save humanity' part was what the characters believed, it doesn't mean that was the actual reason. We, the audience, don't know what those books being saved will accomplish ultimately. It may be that it's important to save as much culture as possible, to rebuild society. This explains why saving Shakespeare and classical music are referenced, as well as various religious documents. The important thing was that the book was meant for more than just having Carnegie use it to become some kind of false prophet.[/sp] I thought it was a pretty awesome movie. It's got great action and brutal deaths, but also a pretty good story. There are lots of interesting things going on, stuff you don't realize until you've seen the entire movie. Then you want to watch it again so you can see things from another perspective. Mila Kunis was damn hot in this movie too. [sp]I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel about her character's adventures[/sp]
I hate Christianity, I loved this movie. I could pretty much care less what the "message" is as long as the writing, acting, directing, etc. are all good. And they are. It's a clever, original movie that I enjoyed thoroughly, even though it had its flaws ([sp]am I really supposed to believe that everyone lost faith in a 2000 year old religion over night, and managed to burn every single one of its texts?[/sp])

It also says that religion was blamed for the disasterous war. This movie takes 30 years after the "flash"[/sp]

Eli is supposedly the only one who said "hm I still like it anywayz lol" and didn't burn his book?[/sp]

And according to the dialogue, almost everyone doesn't know how to read, much less know what a bible is. confusing shit, i know[/sp].

I can't imagine the entire population forgetting about the most major religion in their country over a short 30 year span. But it made for a good story, so I won't complain.[/sp]
If you listened to the moive there was book burning

Keep in mind [sp]Millions were killed, millions including the faithful. The ones that were left lashed out, you know how people always look to blame someone for major screwups. Religion got the blame this time. Presumably, the people in charge at the time were not religious. Considering that most of the world was destroyed to start with, most of the people dead, and the people left behind were struggling just to find something to eat and drink, it's not hard to imagine that it was easy to burn some books. Then, the older ones, the ones that knew about religion, start dying off. Pretty soon most, not all but most, of the people alive are people who are completely ignorant of religion. In the movie, most people don't even read. Do you think you'd even know what religion was if no one around could read?[/sp]
You're trying to argue about this in a world where education doesn't exist, social order and justice have broken down, religion is perhaps the most basic and fundamental unifying force we have. Even Atheists (namely, Asimov) have admitted that religion, in the absence of any other unifying force, is a powerful unifying tool, even the most basic and primitive cultures on Earth have some form of religion, it's a powerful and binding societal force when no other foce is present.
So 1 atheist? I can pull out a lot of instances where religion has caused a lot of unfortunate events. But you only refer to 1 atheist who believes religion is a primitive unifying tool? Regardless, I wanna see this movie. haven't touched any of the spoilers yet..
haven't touched any of the spoilers yet..
Don't. Trust me.
It ruined the enire movies on one page

I would imagine people would still raise their kids to know about God and praying and such, perhaps even moreso in such an unforgiving environment.[/sp]

And not just the minority, but the minority who were being blamed for everything bad that happened? Would these people risk anyone else seeing or hearing them preach religion, especially from a banned book? Now consider what the landscape in the movie looked like. Does that look like a world where parents have the luxury of spending even one minute on something like religious instruction? Or does that look like a world where every second is spent trying to find the resources to allow you to survive another day?[/sp]

I suppose it makes more sense than I gave it credit for.
Why the fuck are we talking is spoiler the moive was spoiled on the first page
Love the bit where [sp]the guy gets his hand cut off[/sp] so funny.
Tom Waits is in this, so now I have to see it.
