I believe that every period missed actually forms some sort of build up. For example if you have ever had a science class sometimes for an example the teacher will mix baking soda and vinegar together. As the chemicals react they form a build up and excess pressure is formed. If you have ever been to Yellowstone National Park the geysers there do the same thing.
