The whole idea of making the irish vote twice and supporting the YES-side with such enthusiasm kind of creeps me out.
I don't really understand why people are afraid of a European super-state. Do we want to keep being divided and keep bickering between eachother? Just because it's a single state it doesn't mean you won't get to keep your national identity, just look at the U.S., every state in the U.S. has it's own identity (sure they are still part of the U.S., but you can see the difference between different states).
You can't compare US states to nations, there's none of the culture, history or identity related to a state that there is to a country.

But it is possible to coexist even with diverse cultures and history, just only if people wouldn't be such xenophobic assholes.

I like how you avoided mentioning how the US is doing apart from national identity, especially with regards to economy... I don't think anybody gives a shit about national identity.

As much as I was hoping for yes, I do agree that we're a fucking joke of a country in that we had to vote twice on something.

The EU is a running gag for making you vote twice. Whatever happened to democracy?

The reason we had to vote twice was because the first time, nobody in the country understood the fucking thing.
Come to think of it, this time, nobody understood it either, it was just all the socialists and sinn fein supporters spreading bullshit that the minimum wage will lower and we'll have to spend more on the military.
On the other hand, you had the more respectable government figures like Brian Cowen and Enda Kenny saying "Vote Yes to more Jobs" but nobody really specified how it would make more jobs.

What the hell is your problem putting down Ireland, you live here for fucks sake, it may be fucked up but that's no excuse for not being slightly patriotic.

Haha oh wow.

I'd say that's a great reason for not being patriotic.

You're a fascist.
Just because I live here doesn't mean I have to like the place.
I'm sure some of those Malians are slightly unpatriotic.
if they slash the minimum wage like the op says that will lower unemployment rates

I am insulted you ungrateful basterd, you owe me and your fellow countrymen everything for being here and making this country such a great place! <insert continuation of fascist nonsense>

Look up fascism. You view national patriotism as the default standpoint, one that you need an excuse to deviate from, that pretty much makes you a fascist. I'm not going to discuss this with you, because no matter if you label it positively or negatively, it still makes you a moron.
I've just realised that the UK has more opt-outs from European legislation than any other country, tied with Denmark. Interesting.

I live in Lisbon.
What is this all about?
EDIT: Oh wait, its about the Lisbon treaty. I thought i had lost some facepunch meeting there. Meh.
EDIT 2: Or that something worthy of facepunch happened here in this shitty country. Meh.
if they slash the minimum wage like the op says that will lower unemployment rates
And also the standards of living in the long run.
Really, those who bag groceries at the local store probably won't be getting 8$/hour if the exploitable teens can be hired for less.
Only the 'states' of the European Union have been independent countries for time measurable in millenia
And? We could make a different kind of United States of Europe compared to the USA. With more rights granted to each state.
if they slash the minimum wage like the op says that will lower unemployment rates
Yeah I guess.
