• You ever just... stop posting on certain subjects for a while?

Like, there are times I feel I'd just be wasting my time thinking up and typing out a post on something, because it's not going to change anything. I'm not going to convince anyone on the opposite side of a particular debate (seriously, no one in the history of internet forums has ever changed their mind on anything they've ever gotten into a flame war over) and if I'm advocating something that can only be acted upon by someone in a position to change something, they're probably not even paying attention to the place I post on - if they even know it exists. I'm one voice shouting into a crowd of many whose collective memory only spans any one thread, and it seems like nothing in that thread will ever further discussion anywhere outside of it. I dunno if this is a type of seasoned restraint or something less healthy. Half the time I open a post field and just end up going "ah, screw it." Ah, what am I saying. Not even gonna get a respDEAR GOD IT'S HAPPENING AGAIN
Yeah, I get this sometimes.
Yes but for different reasons. I just don't trust my own conclusions enough to consider it worth posting most of the time, be it because of a lack of info on the subject or because it's a vastly unpopular opinion.
I often notice that people take your comments and arguments out of context or ridicule it in some unreasonable fashion. Which often creates more confusion, especially on facepunch when you say something that is not that wise or taken out of context, you get extreme comments from other members. I will always continue to post something if I feel that it adds something to the conversation.
It is the internet, it's not like intellectual discussion thrives here. Good discussion can happen, but being text based, stuff can be taken out of context accidentally or wilfully. I go between lurking and posting questions because I figure asking a question will promote more thought than arguing a point, which can sometimes just solidify people's positions.
I just stop posting in general.
I would probably have 3k more posts if I didn't say "whatever this most is meaningless" For example there's a lot of fucked up posts in SH but I don't have the balls, the posting skills, or the capacity to argue like thisispain or other "sanius squad" members If you say an opinion that someone doesn't like they'll try their hardest to flame you and you pretty much just wasted your time. I remember there was a time in SH where you would only get flamed for saying stupid shit ie "Liberal Media" , "You're a SJW", "I hate black culture" , "Fucking Jews/Arabs" , "LOL RELIGION OF PEACE MY ASS" , "Gypsies are thieves" , "Fucking protesters are INCONVIENCING PEOPLE" , "Oh man that teacher who sexually assaulted a guy WAS HOT" and not "Feminism is actual a solid philosophy" , "Maybe we shouldn't jump to conclusions" , "<insert joke about a fandom here>"
Sometimes I think this, but if someone who clearly has a completely wrong and ignorant view gets massive attention I usually try to correct them.
Posting sucks.
Stick to the sub forums

I use to be super anti-smoking and anti-weed until I made a few shitposts and talked to some people. A lot of people won't admit they're wrong, especially on the internet. I always felt better when I fucked up and voiced my (usually) shitty opinion, and got forgiven in some way when I admit I was wrong (usually heart ratings and that kinda stuff, people dropping the topic). Maybe this sounds really cheesy and dumb, but honestly accepting that I fucked up is really important to me now.

As in "free market will save us keep out those ragheads hur dur" kind of right.
Don't give up, I've had my mind changed about certain issues by quite a few members of this forum. Sometimes we would get into flame wars, but at work I'd think about what we talked about and how it went down, and if their argument was convincing enough I'd come back for round 2. After a few arguments I would "officially" change my mind. So maybe the people you were arguing with are just like me. They don't argue with you because they hate you, they argue with you to see if your opinion has any holes in it, before they do some thinking on their own and decide if they agree with you.
I've been trying to not post in threads where feminism is a topic, mainly because my points won't get through to the people shouting "sjw spotted".
I've been trying to not post in threads where feminism is a topic, mainly because my points won't get through to the people shouting "sjw spotted".
SJW spotted! Seriously though do you have anything to say about gamergate? I'd love to hear your opinions.
I never argue with people over the internet. But i do read a lot of debates and discussions between other people. I read their arguments and that helps me form an opinion of what I think of things. You might think you and the person your debating against is the only people interested in what you're talking about, but on the majority of the internet, you are speaking to an audience as well. You've probably made a bigger impact than you think.
Eh, Facepunch has been a bit more mature in my opinion, but in general (especially 4chan) I don't even bother arguing.
I generally don't bother posting in contentious threads, no point, it's incredibly rare anyone ever concedes in those type of threads and I don't care enough about what other people think to try and argue with them
Most of my posts are just arguing just for the sake of arguing. I never intend on changing people's minds or winning people's hearts. I just find it amusing to bicker with other people on a forum. I honestly could not give less of a shit what they actually think in oppose to me.
I used to be sensitive when it came to online discussions, I was really afraid to hurt anybody's feelings and in turn it was easy to bug me with anything negative. I think eventually everyone reaches a point where they just don't care. You have to learn to really understand that it's just the internet. You'd have a way easier time talking to people irl than you would here.
Transexuality discusion threads are a complete mess and just kind of roll into complete and total chaos the moment they are made. Shitty people from both sides just kind of, flame each other. It's completely vile and toxic. someone says something totally reasonable and people respond to them as if they quoted Adolf Hitler, and totally take everything they say out of context. People can't listen for anything. same goes for a bunch of other topics it seems too. I never need to, but I love a good heated gay marriage debate. I will argue pro-gay all day and night to no end if I must :v:
Shitty people from both sides just kind of, flame each other.
The best part is that anyone actually being reasonable gets ignored in favor of fanning the flames even more. That's why those threads especially I actively try to avoid anymore. It's a waste of effort to post something reasonable and logical only to get ignored so people can fling shit at each other instead.

I never post on topics of feminism or foreign politics or transsexuality for the reasons being I'm not educated enough on the topics to make a valid conclusion/argument that are for/against topics.
can we like have a petition to unban thisispain so he can shitpost his way back to a more liberal SH
I've been trying to not post in threads where feminism is a topic, mainly because my points won't get through to the people shouting "sjw spotted".
Same with the people who call everyone who disagree with them a fedora tipping MRA or whatever
I generally just don't care enough to type out full paragraphs on something, especially since I don't have indepth knowledge or experience on "big issue" matters that you see in SH all the time. They usually seem to become toxic discussions anyway.
I've basically had to stop posting about old electronics in general because even though that's my specialty.....I'm repeatedly told to get a life.
Sometimes yeah. I mainly don't post if I don't find it's worth my time to try and argue, like if I know someone isn't going to listen to what I have to say. I also won't post if I feel like I can't communicate a point in a way that won't be misconstrued, or if I simply just don't have the perspective to really do so.
