I've basically had to stop posting about old electronics in general because even though that's my specialty.....I'm repeatedly told to get a life.
Told tech is cool as fuck man Who ever tells you that needs to get a life of their own and / or better interests
Absolutely. Sometimes I just lose interest in something I'm following, so I drop it. I did that with the GTA megathread for a while, and I'm sort of staying out of the Elite: Dangerous megathread until they actually make a game. It really just depends on whether or not I want to waste the effort to post about something.
Told tech is cool as fuck man Who ever tells you that needs to get a life of their own and / or better interests
Swebonny and I have a written agreement where I had to stop talking about old stuff in the CIPWTTKT thread with the punishment of a BAN if I ignored it. It was ratified by at least a dozen other forum members. I had no choice but to stop.
Swebonny and I have a written agreement where I had to stop talking about old stuff in the CIPWTTKT thread with the punishment of a BAN if I ignored it.
Aw, that's a shame :c It's cool at least you can be so passionate about it
Happens to me a lot but usually because a certain word or phrase I want to use makes me sound way more passionate about the issue than I am and I can't think of a less forceful synonym so I just don't bother with the whole thing.
Yes, all the time. Not just this forum either, anywhere. That's mainly why I have <100 posts, cause I'm an insecure bastard who cares about other people's opinions about me on the internet. God, I wish I could just open out and say what I want, but I just can't do that sometimes.
If I actually posted in all the threads I have serious opinions on I would be known as the shittiest poster ever. I'm one of those artsy hipster feminist types who doesn't play video games anymore. I still kind of like the community here in a semi non-ironic way so I still hang around sometimes. Also that I cannot stand other internet communities with their lack of facepunch-esque rules that I have grown accustom to through being on this website for a while. I have had to just avoid threads relating to feminism entirely because I know the general consensus on this website (I would have probably gone the way of MaxOfS2D, even I did not really agree with everything he had to say, or at least the way he said it.)
I've been trying to not post in threads where feminism is a topic, mainly because my points won't get through to the people shouting "sjw spotted".
Half the posts are just people saying they are sick to death of hearing about the issue. I also share that opinion, the difference is that I don't make a post about it.
SH as a whole is fucking disgusting and I refuse to post there unless it's actually about news
SH as a whole is fucking disgusting and I refuse to post there unless it's actually about news
The only reason I really go on SH is because it's a convenient place to read world stories from multiple news agencies. I've began to just not read the posts in the threads anymore and just stick to the articles. Makes the subforum a much more hospitable place.
SH comments are not worse than those at Ynet(Israeli ver.) articles for instance, so it's got that going for it.
SH comments are not worse than those at Ynet(Israeli ver.) articles for instance, so it's got that going for it.
And on the SH Israel and Palestine topic, it feels like the only way to actually get some worthwhile discussion out of it is to ban all vehement supporters of either country, as they're both so heinous and vile in their arguing that they're willing to twist anything into proving that X country deserves to get annihilated.
Swebonny and I have a written agreement where I had to stop talking about old stuff in the CIPWTTKT thread with the punishment of a BAN if I ignored it. I had no choice but to stop.
You know, if you do want to talk about old tech, an exception might be made over in the "Odd Things" thread down in Maker Mates. I've seen your setup, I think it's odd enough to pass.
My posts in SH threads aren't really good. If people rate some of my posts dumb, then most of the time, I can agree. But sometimes I'm a stubborn fuck and I'll believe that my opinion has more weight then someone who thinks otherwise. We're sort of all like that.
There's a certain fat plumber whose name begins with a W that I've had to refrain from talking about in the Super Smash Bros thread
Happens here and on other forums for me, topics, comments, whatever Reasons for it which i've encountered: 1. I realized I was wrong 2. It wasn't really providing anything constructive 3. I realize it's a waste of time 4. I embrace that it's a waste of time, finish it, then think it's complete bullshit anyway so discard it 5. When I have an opinion on something, i'm dead certain of it; I don't like being an asshole but i'm right, you're wrong is basically a mindset I catch myself in, leading me to realize i'm actually being a complete fuck bucket by arguing my opinion that way 6. I don't feel entitled to my opinion on things at times often as a result of 5, self esteem kinda bullshit that fucks with me 7. I literally just stop giving a fuck anymore halfway through i don't know what the point of this post was, but yeah, I didn't realize other people do the same sort of thing a lot for whatever reason/s
I think the problem, like you mentioned, lies in how temporary an argument's outcome is on the internet. You can spend hours debating over a certain topic with someone on a forum, but somebody else is always going to make the same instigating statement somewhere else, starting the cycle again, making whatever ground was previously gained pointless again. This is also an observed problem on the larger Mass Debate threads; the discussion gets so large that if one side ever wins an argument or at least gains ground at establishing their point, it never matters, because the same subject is going to be forgotten and repeated 5 pages later.
It was ratified by at least a dozen other forum members. I had no choice but to stop.
That's another problem I'm noticing on this forum, alot of members seem to be just utter suck ups to the mods. It's kind of sad really. SH is a god damn haven for trolls and shit posters. Especially if someone has an opinion against immigration or something colour related; then they get treated as if they're monsters.
Swebonny and I have a written agreement where I had to stop talking about old stuff in the CIPWTTKT thread with the punishment of a BAN if I ignored it. The reason was more or less to keep the thread less derailed.
i basically stopped posting about any issues whatsoever and just post in tech and tv series threads and make jokes in sh
I rarely get involved in debates or arguments concerning firearms restrictions and laws anymore. It's just one of those subjects where both sides are extremely thick headed and refuse to acknowledge statistics and facts, and both arguments eventually come down to ".....my Rights" or "think of the children....". Furthermore, certain users on both sides of the debate are absolutely toxic and cause the debates to be more about personal insults and shit flinging than anything else. If I had it my way, political debates like that would be forbidden everywhere hold for MD.
Ive stopped getting involved in religious discussions anywhere on the sight pretty much, because any discusioon ultimately boils down to my beliefs. And knowing the communisty on FP I don't want to be ridiculed as "Ignorant" or beleiveing in "Mythology" or even a dumbass just because I believe in God and am a religious person
Don't give up, I've had my mind changed about certain issues by quite a few members of this forum. Sometimes we would get into flame wars, but at work I'd think about what we talked about and how it went down, and if their argument was convincing enough I'd come back for round 2. After a few arguments I would "officially" change my mind. So maybe the people you were arguing with are just like me. They don't argue with you because they hate you, they argue with you to see if your opinion has any holes in it, before they do some thinking on their own and decide if they agree with you.
That 'Manspreading' thread was a mess though.
I've been trying to not post in threads where feminism is a topic, mainly because my points won't get through to the people shouting "sjw spotted".
True, there is a lot of shitposting from both sides.
Eh, Facepunch has been a bit more mature in my opinion, but in general (especially 4chan) I don't even bother arguing.
I think 4chan is better in the way in that there are no post ratings.
Hating on atheism is currently the trending thing, though
It's less about that and more about TAA and 'militant atheists'
If I have mutual respect with someone else in person and we happen to fall on a touchy subject, then I have no problem with discussing things with them. I have actually changed some of my friends minds on certain matters, for the better. In the event when we don't see eye to eye, we always end up agreeing to disagree and it doesn't affect our friendship. On forums though, it's another thing entirely. If I don't know somebody, most of the time the conversation would go nowhere and fall on deaf ears so I don't see the point in trying.
I try not to talk about Godzilla anymore because people say that I'm being annoying
I've actually just come up with a new rule for myself. Arguments on the internet are not allowed to last more than 12 hours. When you go to bed, the argument is over. Period. No more posting about it.
Many times, I start to write a post, but I stop myself since half way through it, I'm raging at the person I'm writing too. Usually, its stupid shit they say, Like half of the Russians in SH blindly following Putins actions, or other shit like that. I've would of been perma'd like 50 times by now for flaming.
It's less about that and more about TAA and 'militant atheists'
Really? Because I've seen people getting "*tips fedora* xD" responses for just casually mentioning that they're atheist in relevant discussions guess they're just a moronic minority
