The Force Awakens
I rather enjoyed it for the most part. It is a solid continuation of the series, and I can't wait for the next episode. However, there are quite a few things I didn't like about it. [sp]First of all, fucking Rey. Rey of all people. Jesus christ, there is so much they could have done with her, but she was an overall shoddy job of a character. Master the fucking force within a few hours and beat Kylo Ren to the ground with ease. And when she made the stormtrooper release her restraints and leave with the door open (although this lead to one of the most memorable scenes in the movie). Kylo Ren was portrayed as a very powerful person at the start, with the ability to stop a blaster in its fucking tracks, and Rey beats him with the first time she actually uses the bloody lightsaber.[/sp]
[sp]Ren was weak, sloppy, and untrained. He had just been shot by Chewie, was in pain from that, slightly exhausted from his duel with Finn, AND he was dealing with him killing his father. Not to mention, for nearly the entire duel he has with Rey, Rey is fucking retreating. It's not until the end, when Ren thinks he can attempt to convert her (succeed where Vader failed) that the tide of the duel actually changes. AND NOT TO MENTION REY HAD EXPERIENCE WITH MELEE WEAPONS (Her staff on Jakku), she wasn't an idiot and knew how to defend herself.
Not to mention, fighting back against having your mind probed (and as a result pushing back hard enough that you read them) and then attempting a mind trick and having it work only on the 3rd time hardly counts as having "mastered" the force.[/sp]
Daft Punk: Unchained
If you even have a passing interest in the guys, definitely worth a watch.
The Machete Order is made to preserve the "Luke, I am your father" reveal of Empire. So it's only really worth using if you're completely unfamiliar with Star Wars and somehow managed to miss one of the most well known twists in film history.
release order does that as well.
release order does that as well.
Machete Order is meant to make the viewer sympathetic towards Vader for the conclusion of Jedi.
Star Wars VII.
It was okay. Definitely infinitely better than the prequels, and a lot more serious than the OT, but it definitely felt like an Abrams film.
Machete Order is meant to make the viewer sympathetic towards Vader for the conclusion of Jedi.
I think the release order handles his redemption perfectly well, I don't feel more sympathetic towards Vader after learning he doesn't like sand or younglings.
Sitting down to watch the Point Break remake in theatres. Can't give me shit about it, i didn't even pay for it because i work at the theatre. We'll see how this goes. I'm a sucker for movies involving extreme sports.

you need to be covered in placenta goo to not know the twist in the original trilogy
you need to be covered in placenta goo to not know the twist in the original trilogy
It goes even further, you just don't have to be that twinkle in your parents eye to not know that twist.
Machete Order is meant to make the viewer sympathetic towards Vader for the conclusion of Jedi.
that's stupid
there's already a feeling of sympathy when he throws the emperor down the chasm, i don't need a mix n mash order to reimburse that.
fuck, if that's the case, phantom menace should be included in it since it shows you what a shit-show he started out in, not left out because some fuckface decided it's not worth it.
I just think it should be a rite of passage for anyone who's watching Star Wars to see the prequels, after the OT of course.
Phantasm - Does a great job of creating a surreal nightmarish atmosphere and feeding off of a fear of the unknown.

[sp]As far as dark Force practicioneers go, Kylo Ren is actually fairly powerful and one of the proofs of this is him duelling Rey after being shot in the chest by a weapon that has been shown to slam armor-wearing stormtroopers to the ground with a single shot (during the duel Kylo can be shown beating his chest with his fist twice, meaning his using the old Sith trick to focus on anger and hate to ignore pain.
Also, one thing is being able to fight with a metal staff, another thing entirely is to fight with a lightsaber. Without chopping your limbs off yourself[/sp]
just saw Lost River, aka What Happens When An Amateur Filmmaker Gets A Two Million Dollar Budget
pretentious as heck, but pretty in places I guess

I still haven't seen them. They look shit and I've heard nothing but bad things about them.
I tried watching 2 tonight and I literally can't finish it. George Lucas deserves all hate he gets for episode 2

Episode II was Lucas without outside intervention. Imagine what the original trilogy would have looked like if he got his way.

i feel bad for portman having to actually have her character say "its ok to be angry lol its human" to some guy who confesses to being full on homicidal
Or having to call a dude 'annie'.
20 Million Miles to Earth (1957) - 8/10
An absolute classic monster film, and one of Harryhausen's bests. The acting is good, the special effects are great, the music is superb, and the attention to detail is unmatched by some of today's blockbusters.
Or having to call a dude 'annie'.
I'm glad Lucas sold the series before his next Blu-ray edit inevitably had Obi-Wan say "Annie was a good friend."

I feel like it could have all been prevented if they asked if Annie was OK.

Nodbody said it wasn't going to be painful. You need to be able to experience it for yourself at least once, to grow stronger.
But god Episode 2 is so boring. Nothing actually happens until the last 15 minutes or so, and the stuff that does happen before that is a really bad attempt at a detective movie (Obi-Wan, why did a yongling have to fucking tell you to go where there is nothing becuase its obvious the planet is still there???) plus just exposition of people sitting around telling you things. Like there's nothing wrong with character and dialogue driven movies, but for starters that's not what Star Wars is. Secondly, jt's poorly done characters and dialogue. At least in some ways Episode 3 makes up for some of the shortcomings of the first two prequels. (I'd give 2 a 2/10, TPM 4/10, and ROTS a 6/10). The start of Episode 3 was like a fucking Star Wars movie, I just wish the rest of that movie, and the rest of the prequels were like the Invisible Hand stuff.
You must share in the collected pain of others.
Though I also believe that the Plinkett Reviews should be required viewing for fans as well.

Just watched that scene. God damn Episode 2 makes me really uncomfortable. All the creepy stares, silent pauses, rape faces that Anakin pulls

When I saw the saga marathon in theatres for TFA's premire, 2 was the one most people napped through. I was a happier man once it was over.
I'm excited to go see TFA in the next couple days. Not expecting it to be mind blowing but if it's a promising beginning to a new series that's all I want. I hope it feels like Star Wars and not Lucas Being Himself (which is bad)

You'll be satisfied in that case

I'm not a huge Star Wars nerd, so maybe take what I say with a pinch of salt, but for your average movie-goer, I thought the film was fantastic. I couldn't stop smiling through most of it, just because of how beautiful some of the shots were and how amazing the locations looked. Everything was vibrant and definitely made me feel like this other galaxy existed somewhere far, far away.
John and Daisy did their roles well, too, and I gotta say I was hooked through the entire film. Some scenes were a bit pants, like [sp]the Kylo Ren fight with Fin and Rey, but then I guess he'd taken a shot to the torso, had just killed his dad, and wasn't at the top of his game[/sp] (spoilers regarding main plot event).

Look out for TR-8R, best fuckin dude in the movie.
Can anyone tell me what he was wielding? I've never seen [sp]a stormtrooper take on a Jedi before, his eletric stunbaton was badass[/sp]
