Though I also believe that the Plinkett Reviews should be required viewing for fans as well.
My buddy (who really likes Best of the Worst and Half in the Bag) hasn't seen the Plinkett reviews or the prequels, and I feel like a jackass for suggesting he watch movies that both he and I know are bad just so he can get the jokes.
If you've not seen the prequels and are thinking of watching them you're as well to just watch the Plinkett reviews instead because they're about the same length, tell the plot more coherently, and are about a hundred times more entertaining to watch
I'm really hoping they do a Plinkett review for Force Awakens even though they enjoyed it
iirc the Plinkett review for the J. J. Abrams Star Trek movie was a positive one

I think it complained mostly about structuring and composure as opposed to the story/acting stuff but it's been a while

Saw Frank. Weird movie but I really enjoyed. I knew that fassbender was the titular character but you can't really tell, it's like nothing he's known for.
5/5 fake heads
i watched it without knowing that fassbender was involved, was a pretty good experience
In the Heart of the Sea
It was visually terrible, many sequences made no sense, the story was dumb and it felt rushed despite being too long. asfvvvfghjf
Room with Brie Larson.
Ten minutes in I slowly began realizing what's really going on. My first thought was: "Nah, there's no fucking way this is a movie about THAT."
But it was. And as the movie went further, my heart slowly sank, deeper and deeper. What was meant to be a light-hearted show before going to bed turned into a fucking gut-wrenching, twisted drama. I was nearly crying, silently screaming and smiling as a moron.
After the viewing I was at loss at words. I need a cigarette although I'm not smoking. I'm staring outside the window trying to make something out of it. I had that feeling before three years ago after watching Jagten with Mads Mikkelsen. That feeling when the film is so good it connects with you on all the levels emotionally and you have to rethink your life.
Fuck, why there have to be so much evil in the world? Just fucking why?
That film was something else. Can't get it out of my head. I'm unable to say anything more, but I think it's my #1 this year.
[editline]30th December 2015[/editline]
Just checked - I'd have never guessed that mentioned earlier Frank and Room were directed by the same person. It's just so different, and uh somehow entirely similar in the way emotions are played that, well, no way to put it. We've got to watch out for Lenny Abrahamson, looks like he's going to be a major player with films like this.
I couldn't help myself and quickly skimmed the Wikipedia page for it.
Considering my emotional state lately, I think it might not be a good idea for me to see this just yet because that looks fucking awful to sit through in the positive sense.

It may be not, really. This is a very tough film, but I'll applaud the director for having a really subtle approach to it and being able to put some lighter, heart-warming moments.
The Black Cauldron
4/10
Amazing animation, atrocious script. The villain was cool but he couldn't save it.
A lot of people talk about how The Black Cauldron is underrated, but just because it's dark doesn't mean it's good.
Now The Rescuers Down Under, that's an underrated Disney movie.

underrated my ass
rescuers down under is one of disney's top 5

I was about to post I didn't have quite as strong of a reaction as you. Not to say it wasn't brilliant, because it was, but I felt more relieved by [sp]their apparent overcoming of the troubles[/sp], but I can definitely see how it would wrench someone. Probably says more about me than you.
Phantasm II - While it lacked a lot of the ambiguous surrealism of the original, I still liked it. I understand why fans would be upset that the main character was recast, I think LeGros did a believable job of being an older version of Mike. Although the film did not achieve the mysterious horror of the first, it still held out as a solid action horror film with some pretty memorable strange moments. Curious to see how III and IV will be.
The Hateful Eight - 4/10
Saw this in 70mm and boy oh boy am I disappointed. No likeable characters like Hans Landa or Vic Vega, a failure to create tension between any two characters, [sp]the BIG BLACK PECKER scene felt weird and self indulgent[/sp] and I can only take [sp]hearing the N-word[/sp] and [sp]seeing a female character getting punched in the face[/sp] so often before it starts to feel uncomfortable. I'm probably going to be in the minority for this one and I'm normally totally OK with Tarantino's self-indulgent style, but I think he tried to bite off way much more than he could chew with one. This is definitely on par with something like Death Proof or Kill Bill 2
If you need me, I'll be rewatching Jackie Brown.
Sitting down to watch the Point Break remake in theatres. Can't give me shit about it, i didn't even pay for it because i work at the theatre. We'll see how this goes. I'm a sucker for movies involving extreme sports.
Hi I'm back. I really fucking enjoyed the movie despite how awful everyone says it is. Plot was solid despite some minor nitpicks and the stunts were fucking awesome.

The 5th film is apparently coming out 2016. I'd like to see if that happens to be any good since it's been a while since the last film.
Ant-Man was a fun movie.
🐜/10
The Hateful Eight - 8/10 (no pun seriously)
I don't feel like typing so I'll just note some things off the top of my mind. The movie's 3 hours long but it felt like it went by in half that time. I may need to watch it again to see if it still has that effect but as of right now it felt like his shortest movie despite it being his longest, strangely. Maybe the intermission somehow made it feel like that.
The score is fantastic, I should seriously listen to more of Ennio Morricone's stuff.
The 70mm Panavision didn't make a difference to me. My brother said it allows for some filming techniques like getting insane closeups with both a wide field of view and narrow depth of field, and I noticed those in the movie, but eh whatever, I don't think it's worth paying 3D ticket price for.
The [sp]BIG BLACK DINGUS[/sp] scene was really retarded and gratuitous but was pretty funny, so whatever, I don't see why it's so controversial.
There's some great character development for one of the characters, and I won't say who it is, but I really liked how it turned out. He was my least favorite character when he was introduced and ended up being my favorite character.
I don't think the dialogue was quite as witty or engaging as some of his other movies, but if it was enough to make the first half of the movie blow by, it must still be working for me.

That's part of what is inspiring me to go through them all. I saw the end about 30 minutes of II probably six years ago and the series' name has remained in my head since because it was so unusual at the time to me.
The Black Cauldron

The Black Cauldron was originally going to be a PG-13 movie but was hastily cut down in the last minute in order to make it a PG flick. Whenever it would have been a good movie or not despite that I don't know but apparently people who saw advance screenings of the PG-13 cut before the movie was being cut down liked it.
Krampus -7/10.
Solid plat, smart characters. Fucking silly delivery.
It was pretty good, you should see it. The ending is fucked.

remember that one time Disney did Berserk
loved the black cauldron as a kid
The Hunt 9/10
Loved this movie; it's very well filmed and acted, and the story is gripping and realistic, and touches on an issue which is relevant. Mads' acting is excellent.
a History of Violence 8.5/10
How are people calling this movie slow? It's short and every scene is relevant and captivating in its own way. Very good film, although very narratively shallow, it makes a great statement about violence.
Did a series run:
Rocky - 9/10, one of the best underdog films out there, a classic for sport films
Rocky II - a usual case of sequel, basically the same film as original, but twice as harder, faster, stronger, not necessarily better
Rocky III - yeah, that feels slowly like a cash-in, switches focus from the humane side of the film, but still watchable
Rocky IV - oh god just why/10
Rocky V - the only redeeming factor of this film is that it makes Rocky IV look like a fucking masterpiece
Rocky Balboa - just bad, overtly sentimental and boring. But at least montages got better.
And now there's Creed. It's a solid film and rather nicely fits into the year of soft reboots (like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Jurassic World). Of course Rocky is a type of "you've seen one you've seen them all" series and it's weird to expect otherwise, it follows the exact same pattern. But it's nice to look at, and Stallone doesn't phone it. Wouldn't mind a sequel.
Wait, you thought Rocky 4 was bad? Drago was awesome!
I'm going to watch Star Wars right now but my mate reserved front row seats because they were the only tickets left lmao this sucks so much
Wait, you thought Rocky 4 was bad? Drago was awesome!
Dolph Lundgren was the only positive aspect of that film. That and Stallone's pubes glued to his face.
That film is just bad, no question about it. It tried to portray the political angle (it's 1985 we get it, it's tense) and it fails miserably. It tried to gave the viewer emotional shock and it failed even harder ([sp]I still laugh when I remind myself Apollo's death[/sp])
And don't get me started on that robot sub-plot from the beginning, all of my why the fuck it's there jesus christ.
