I'm going to watch Star Wars right now but my mate reserved front row seats because they were the only tickets left lmao this sucks so much
have fun breaking your necks and developing carpal tunnel syndrome in your neck
When I went to Star Wars (not assigned seating) there were only two open areas for our group - the very front row and the very back row.
The Revenant (Alejandro G. Iñárritu, 2015) 8.5/10 One of the best survivor movies I've seen. And that scenery porn, goddamn. Great actors and soundtrack too.
Everest. Really good rent movie.
Steve Jobs Hey, that wasn't so bad. I quite liked that film and there I was prepared to hate it. I mean yeah, it's a terrible biography film. It does a terrible job at explaining what the fuck is going on there, but if you're familiar with the story, you're gonna like it. It feels very Sorkin-esque, to the point you'd expect that someone pulled out three episodes from a full series of his about Steve Jobs and stitched them together into one film. It's that jarring. But the rest is quite flawless. Dialogues are amazing though completely unrealistic (I love them anyway) and the dynamic between Fassbenjobs and the rest was on point (though I cannot help but think that Bale would be a much better choice). It's actually amazing how simple though complicated the script was - you don't need to know anything about Steve Jobs and it will be just a simple film about how egomaniac/genius views the world and how his relationship with his daughter grows (although it's not in the foreground). But if you do, your perception of the film changes dramatically. Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay is a no-brainer, nod for directing, editing and Fassbender would be fair. At times it felt like a good play, I wouldn't mind seeing this script on stage.
thats what always trips me up so much about Sorkin all of his dialogue is so impeccably smart and snappy, but it feels totally unrealistic
Sicario - loved it, very suspenseful That said, where the fuck is the movies thread?
this is the movies thread basically
We had a movies thread other than this one?
Eh Well then, can someone recommend me some good recent suspenseful movies, like sicario, prisoners, and the like (preferably military themed)
Eh Well then, can someone recommend me some good recent suspenseful movies, like sicario, prisoners, and the like (preferably military themed)
Well, seeing as these two films have nothing in common except the director, I can recommend you Enemy and Incendies coming from Villeneuve.
The Hateful Eight - 8/10
Well, seeing as these two films have nothing in common except the director, I can recommend you Enemy and Incendies coming from Villeneuve.
a warning: enemy is very arthouse-y, its definitely not for everyone
How was Sicario good? I watched it in cinemas and it was so fucking dull. Long scenes of nothing happening isn't "suspense". The only bit that had any suspense was the first few beginning scenes, the rest of the movie dragged on and (imo) sucked dick. Genuinely fought falling asleep during the 2nd half of it.
have fun breaking your necks and developing carpal tunnel syndrome in your neck
Eh necks are overrated anyway. The movie itself was pretty fun though. Not a huge Star Wars fan myself but still enjoyed it quite a bit. 7.5/10 for me
a warning: enemy is very arthouse-y, its definitely not for everyone
I disagree, except the entire metaphorical side of the film and literally few scenes there's not much of the arthouse there, it's easy to treat it as a straight suspenseful thriller.
I saw Enemy not so long ago, liked it too
Well, seeing as these two films have nothing in common except the director, I can recommend you Enemy and Incendies coming from Villeneuve.
I liked the suspense in Prisoners I guess Well maybe movies more like Sicario, I love this theme when cops/soldiers are on some mission, and despite being better armed than whoever they try to go after/fight, they are constantly threatened and scared shitless because they're at the enemy's home so you feel like something bad is going to happen to them at any point Bonus points if corruption and betrayal is in IIRC Kingdom (2007) did it well, so did Hurt Locker End of Watch also had this, but to a lesser degree
Any chance the Bluray thread could come back? I miss that thread.
I went on a family outing to watch Prisoners for a belated birthday get-together. I was the one who recommended it, and I really, really enjoyed the film. It was so dark and twisted though, the rest of my family ended up super depressed and confused about why I chose the film. I really didn't think it was gonna end up being that dark. Gyllenhaal's acting was incredible, though. The twitchiness of the detective, it was crazy how immersed he was into the role.
i am of the opinion that jake gylenhall is easily top 10 most talented actors working today
Signs - fuck you/10 Still nonsensical, still a pile of shit, still poorly made. I honestly can't believe people keep defending this, especially its ending.
The Raid 2: 9 or maybe even 10/10? i would call it a perfect movie in the same sense as RoboCop. everything it's meant to do it does flawlessly. the main thing that surprised me was how seriously the plot took itself, like it's no Prisoners but there's like, things happening, and the protagonist does things and fights people and you know why he fights them. so many modern action movies that think they don't need a plot so long as they have a scene where bruce willis has to do this fight... *record scratch* ...dressed as a dinosaur! because they've been making the same movies since 1984 and there's no way to distinguish them anymore except by how blatantly they jangle the keys in front of you, how obviously they can make it a rehash of the same thirty year old script, even making it a selling point in the absence of actual positive qualities at no point in the raid 2 does the protagonist look into the camera and say "we don't take ourselves very seriously" and it's like 40% of why the fights are so good
just a friendly reminder to watch Moon (2009). It's a brilliant movie and will blow ur fuckin mind
I don't see why everyone praises Moon so highly, to me it's just...OK. After the first twist the rest of the plot is pretty standard and predictable.
imo The Raid 2 was about an hour too long also the plot was impenetrable, although that may be my fault as I am not Indonesian

Also Jarhead, also Black Hawk Down and to a certain point Assault on 13th Precinct.

Bridge of Spies It was okay. Nothing special, nothing gripping, just a calm soft-spy film for the evening. In all honesty I'm more interested in a sequel that could be, based on what was written at the end, about Donovan's role in Cuban Crisis.
