i haven't seen Death Proof and have no idea when I'll watch that. Isn't supposed to be seen with that other Rodriguez film?
They have nothing to do with each other narratively, and they aren't even similar (other than being exploitiation movie tributes). For me, Death Proof is by far his weakest. The ending sequence is cool, but it's preceeded by dialogue which is completely useless, which has no tension and leads to nothing in the movie. Even the motivations of the 'villain' are very hard to accept, and make his character simply a pure lunatic.
django and pulp fiction are the only ones i've seen i plan on seeing hateful eight then inglorious basterds next
inglorious basterds is one of my personal favorites (tied with pulp fiction) there are no 70mm showings of hateful eight near me so i might have to settle with regular digital film plus im seeing the revenant on saturday and im really fucking hyped
As I mentioned before, I'm pretty hit or miss with Tarantino. I really like his first three movies, the first Kill Bill, and Inglourious Basterds. My favorite of his is definitely Jackie Brown Re: Reservoir Dogs, I feel like it's not his best film overall, but it's perhaps his best film in terms of execution? It's short, sweet, and to the point, and only shows what absolutely needs to be while giving each of the characters a unique personality. The fact he does this so well in 90 minutes surprises me every time
jackie brown is by far my least favorite tarantino movie. that being said there's still a few of his i haven't seen, i still need to watch true romance
Jackie Brown is like one of my favourites of his. Would love to see him do more "normal" movies like that.
i'll jump on the "death proof is qt's weakest" movie the concept is great, and it certainly is an exploitation film, but there could have been more done with it. also, for the record my favorite qt film is kill bill.
Just watched the movie Legend, with Tom hardy. Man that movie was genius. All of the action scenes were super realistic and the relations with the two brothers are just perfect. 9/10
The Hateful Eight Fucking amazing. Saw it last night in 70mm and oh boy, it was something else. Samuel L Jackson and Walton Coggins were easily my favorite part of the movie. I can see why some people disliked the movie, because it does take a while to actually get the ball rolling but whatever. The payoff was amazing. Same with the music. A few of the tracks came straight from The Thing, which really put a smile on my face. Hell, the whole damn movie put a smile on my face.
Tangerine (2015) 8/10
Tangerine (2015) 8/10
This tells me nothing. And also I just watched Jobs 6/10 the movie has some good moments but jobs has no redeeming qualities, and the movie glosses over a ton of history. Only interesting at certain parts. Ashton kutcher poytrayed jobs well though.
The Revenant (2015) 5/10 Great camera work, good action scenes. Tom Hardy's character was very relatable, because, honestly, I want to get the fuck out of that forest as much as he did. Barely any dialogue or soundtrack, basically I paid money to see people grunt and make confused faces for three hours. Wouldn't recommend.
I'm seeing The Revenant on Sunday and it could honestly go either way for me, I enjoyed Babel but really didn't like Birdman
I'm seeing The Revenant on Sunday and it could honestly go either way for me, I enjoyed Babel but really didn't like Birdman
watch his "death trilogy" theyre good
Minority Report - Saw the film years ago, but remembered next to nothing about it. Honestly I feel like it was a fun film, but at the same time Spielberg fucked it up heavily. I enjoyed the fact that he went towards noir as inspiration, but at the same time, the over-the-top actions sequences and [sp]happy ending[/sp] contradicted too much from it. Also I feel as if it would have been better had it carried an R rating and explored the inherently violent themes relating to murder better. I would be interested to see how a darker toned version filled with paranoia based more heavily on Dick's short story with themes relating to the military industrial complex would be compared to this version.
Tangerine I'm not good at reviewing movies but fuck it. A pretty interesting and funny film about a transgender prostitute who just got out of jail, and is looking for her pimp/boyfriend who cheated on her with some random woman. Solid acting from the lead and supporting actresses and actors, especially considering a lot of them are first time actors. I really dug the way it looked; it's impressive what they did with iPhones (with some nice lenses). 8/10
Coraline 7.5/10 This film has re-kindled my interest in stop-motion animation.
Reservoir Dog is as good, if not better than Pulp Fiction. I'd almost say Kill Bill Volume 2 has the most heart out of all his films.
I think I'm most likely in the minority here, but Pulp Fiction is so over rated in my opinion, and don't get me wrong it's a decent film. It's good, not great, and I really never understood the hype for it. [editline]7th January 2016[/editline] Oh yeah Good Burger 10/10 fucking great, but hey I've always loved this movie ever since I was a kid. I'm just a sucker for the 90's/early 2000's what can I say.
About to watch Pink Flamingos. What the fuck am I doing
About to learn a different meaning behind the phrase "Eat shit!"
Pink Flamingos is great and John Waters is great there's a good documentary on Divine that came out a few years ago, definitely worth a watch
The Beast (1988) - Great war film. Not many American films I can think of taking place during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Enjoyed how [sp]both sides of the war were really in a moral gray area throughout the film.[/sp] Had some tense moments too, such as [sp]when one of member tank crew was out finding the range on the enemy as bullets landed just feet away from him.[/sp]
Django Unchained - 9/10
Fantastic 4 (2015) 5/10 nice but the old ones were much better.
Coraline 7.5/10 This film has re-kindled my interest in stop-motion animation.
I love stop motion. I wish there were more films made in that style.
Inland Empire Definitely worth the watch if only because of the pure amount of tension and dread it builds after the first hour of the movie. But I really wouldn't recommend it if you're not already a fan of David Lynch. Also that fucking hallway scene is terrifying.
Coraline 7.5/10 This film has re-kindled my interest in stop-motion animation.
If you haven't already, I'd go watch 9.
If you haven't already, I'd go watch 9.
I think that, Beowulf and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within are the only 3D animated theatrical release movies that were rated PG-13. the more you know
Freddy vs. Jason (2003) 5/10 It's just an average slasher. It's kinda cool to see the two biggest names in the genre going at it, but they could have done a lot more with the concept than they did. An enjoyable film, but it could have been much better.
The Revenant just opened in my town last night so I went. Holy shit was that movie brutal. I only thought about it on the way home but it's so brutal that a scene of a chick getting raped wouldn't even make it onto the top 10 brutal things that happened in it.
The Raid: Redemption. 9/10. The choreography of the combat was nothing short of amazing, and although it lacks a little in story, it makes up for it with tense action and gruesomely realistic violence.
