I just spent way too long thinking about how I should describe how I feel about Scott Pilgrim, so I'll just say it like this: It's a real mixed-bag that I enjoy a little more than I probably should. It's the worst movie that I'm still capable of rewatching and having a good time with, not counting movies like The Room. [editline]11th January 2016[/editline] I want to say "guilty pleasure" but then someone's probably gonna come and say that I secretly think it's actually really good, which I don't. I'm not entirely sure why it has this effect on me.
Watching Coming to America right now. What ever happened to Eddie Murphy. he was the shit back then
no I liked the film. i just dont think its close to as deep as you think. it's solid but simple
Okay then. "Deep" can mean a lot of things. I meant that it's kind of an elaborate film, with lots of foreshadowing and twists that would make rewatching it a very interesting experience. I'll be comparing with "The Illusionist" soon.
Watching Coming to America right now. What ever happened to Eddie Murphy. he was the shit back then
Had kids, made movies for kids probably.
wasnt a fan of force awakens but i just found out the director for episode 8 is the guy who made Looper and the Ozymandias episode of BB. that's interesting [editline]d[/editline] he grew up like 10 minutes away from where i live. neat :D
and the director of episode 9 is the guy who made Jurassic World, an uninspired cash-gab mess. that's interesting as well isn't it?

can someone explain to me how jurassic world is an uninspired cash grab? it's not a masterpiece by any stretch but it had more differences from the original than force awakens and the callbacks actually made sense unlike a girl who doesn't understand the concept of grass being used to set up a 'hilarious' reference to that god-awful parsec line not saying that force awakens was bad either but the two of them are pretty even to me as far as blockbuster franchise resurrections go
Got to see Blade Runner at my local cinema yesterday. fuckin' 10/10 what were you expecting?

theyre both cash COWS but only jworld was a cash GRAB. hollow meaningless film with no care put into it while star wars was the opposite. there, discussion solved
Watching Coming to America right now. What ever happened to Eddie Murphy. he was the shit back then
Check out Trading Places if you haven't. Shame Eddie Murphy and John Landis didn't do more films together. They made a great team. Also, check out his standup. Both of those specials are fucking great.

I miss the Rush Hour and Fifth Element days of Eddie Murphy /sarc [editline]12th January 2016[/editline] time to rewatch Fifth Element. In 2001, my mum used to take me to her best friends house, and her best friend had a 16 year old son (I was 9). He locked me in his room and forced me to watch that movie, and my mum flipped her shit when I couldn't sleep for the next week cause of it. I was such a pussy.
I object, Scott Pilgrim is fucking amazing and easily one of my favorite comedies.
It's a good adaptation of the comic but an okay movie overall. Edgar Wright is a phenomenal director though. So hey uh I saw Anomalisa thoughts: The animation is amazing to watch. The story of the film manages to be awful, awkward and funny all at the same time. It reminds me greatly of Being John Malkovich, the one other Charlie Kaufman movie I have seen. I think the story it tries to tell really works for the medium it's in. It wouldn't work as well if it had been done with 2D animation or (gasp) CGI. 5/5 movie would watch again
purely in terms of technical competence and filmmaking, tfa is way better there's absolutely no comparison to be made.
Yeah, I remember being angry after seeing Jurrasic World. I walked of TFA thinking eh, I've killed 2 hours in worse ways.
tried to watch The Shining for the first time, at 1:50 am i realize i am alone nope [editline]d[/editline] the realization came out literally the worst possible part, too. i hate leaving movies unfinished but it seriously plays on your nerves lmao. the cinematography is insanely creepy from the getgo. and watching it on a tv with crisp visuals just accentuates it [editline]d[/editline] finished it. 9/10
Just wrapped up Steve Jobs and I don't really feel much about it I can recognize it's a film where every element is pretty much full of talent - acting, writing, directing, editing, etc. but I just don't really feel anything for it, mostly because I don't really care about Steve Jobs' personal life. The first act was very solid and engaging, but by the third act the movie references itself a little too much and becomes tiresome, and ends on a waaaaaay too sentimental note in comparison to the rest of the film I really wanted to like this more but I'll give this about a 6/10. It's a very solid and entertaining film that never feels boring, that just left me cold. If you're interested in watching an Aaron Sorkin screenplay about a tech genius asshole just watch The Social Network [editline]12th January 2016[/editline] also props to Kate Winslet for pulling off a foreign accent
the h8ful m8 - 70mm presentation longer version i just want to get it str8 before i st8 my l8 opinion8ed review. this was fantastic and one of the most unique film experiences I've had in a theatre. It cost me only £10 to see in the way it was meant.. which is cheaper than the theatre nearer to me showing it in digital. I know there's a lot of sceptics about projection over digital, but I just want to say.. it was surreal to see a movie projected in this way after so many years of digi8 projecting. The images weren't so dramatically bright and sharp and plastic.. it had warmth.. and I found myself so at ease with the 3 hours. Onto the movie itself. From what I extrapol8, this film isn't going down gr8 and it's b8 that people wanted something more in tune with a mad ride than something like this. The response was kind of stagn8, which is sad. This movie.. was so much more in tune with what I like than Django. It had a crisp "Unforgiven"-esque vibe, with dialogue that went every which way and gave this movie a rich and textured start to finish. Unlike his other films where you find yourself going through so many mazes of madness, here you're left with what feels like a whirlpool of good old fashioned character, built with dialogue. If that ain't your cuppa tea, or if u h8 Unforgiven or Dances With Wolves etc. then I'm not sure how I can recommend something like this. It is very Tarantino though.. absolutely. To some up, this movie does what Reservoir Dogs never did for me... and that's really drive the picture with gr8 writing. If Reservoir Dogs was a water biscuit, then this is the creme de la creme cracker jack. as for the 70mm business... I really don't know what to say. It felt like an event than just chilling out with a movie at a cinema. When it's out on blu disc... it just won't be the same unless they manage to capture the long version.. Star Wars 8 minus 1 - 70mm imax 2D only one scene was filmed on imax 70mm, but as a whole this was way better than my original 3D experience. I actually enjoyed it without a headache. Again, regardless that it's not really a true 70mm capture, it was a joy to see it projected like that. In fact it made it even more in tune with the original movies now that it was de-plastic8ed. Good. [editline]12th January 2016[/editline] it is ur f8 to r8 l8 if u found any of this info useful. [editline]12th January 2016[/editline]
also props to K8 Winslet for pulling off a foreign accent
she's done it before loads of times.. nothing really outstanding yet she'll be nominated by the academy for sure.
Not rated 8/8, chances missed. I give your review a 7/8
she's done it before loads of times.. nothing really outstanding yet she'll be nominated by the academy for sure.
Definitely, I also really hope Fassbender lands a nomination. The movie's strongest aspect was by the far the performances
Fire in the Sky I can see why the only part of the film that anyone remembers is the one where [sp]the guy wakes up on the alien ship.[/sp] The rest of the movie is kinda meh. Still worth streaming on Netflix/renting/whatever for that 15 minutes alone though. 5/10 I Saw The Devil I do have a few complaints, such as [sp]how does the bad guy survive some of the abuse he's given, such the repeated blows to the head[/sp] and a few moments felt a bit silly or out of place. It was still really good for the most part and I'd still recommend it. 7.5/10
So fucking pissed that there's no way for me to see The Hateful Eight in 70mm. Everyone sounds like they're having such a good time with it.
hopefully these cheer you up m8 :(
Watched Chappie, 5/5. I'm biased because Chappie is one cute droid.
Incendies (Denis Villeneuve, 2010) 9/10 Wow, Jesus Christ. Basically, this film is to Lebanon what Sicario was to Mexico. Now, take away the action and politics and replace them with family tragedy, and you've got one of the best dramas I've seen recently. Also, I know I've been distributing a lot of 9s recently, but a good film is a good film, and I don't like watching something that may not be worth my time. I choose my films carefully.
I'm FINALLY seeing Carol tonight after two months of waiting to see it :joy: I've been more hyped to see this than Force Awakens
So fucking pissed that there's no way for me to see The Hateful Eight in 70mm. Everyone sounds like they're having such a good time with it.
well, do yourself a favor listen to this overture, then go see the movie in its regular format just make sure you demand the theater take a 10 minute break after the first death
I saw Hateful Eight a second time a few days ago and I enjoyed it even more knowing what was coming. Knowing the ending ahead of time gives a whole new meaning to some of the dialogue in the beginning. That and since I watched it before, I decided to watch the background a bit more this time around and loved the fact that Tarantino kept every actor doing something. There is not a single scene where the focus is on one or two people that the rest are just sitting waiting for their screen time. It's perfect. Save for [sp]the Confederate general, of course, but he didn't do much to begin with[/sp]
As someone who was kind of meh on Hateful Eight I feel like I'd enjoy it more after a rewatch
I thought [sp]the first 45 minutes or so before they arrived at the haberdashery[/sp] could have been trimmed a bit It still, however, really bugs me that [sp]Minnie supposedly hates Mexicans yet says nothing about it when they first show up there[/sp]
