If you're interested in seeing something else with Brie Larson you should check out Short Term 12, great film that came out a few years ago that not a whole lot of people saw
I saw Short Term 12, but Room was something else entirely. Short Term was also brilliant, it was this weird coming-of-age story, and at the end I didn't felt sadness but rather happiness. Jagten was a mixture of sadness and reflection of the fucked up state of today's society.
Saw the h8ful 8 I r8 it an 8. It's pretty funny, recommend seeing it with friends if you've got them. I don't understand how reviews are calling it Tarantino's bleakest film yet, surely Reservoir Dogs is the bleakest.
What's the last movie that really blew you guys away? I've watched a bunch of really disappointing ones lately and I miss the feeling of being really impressed by a movie
In a cinema, Fury Road. If just the most recent, Dallas Buyers Club
What's the last movie that really blew you guys away? I've watched a bunch of really disappointing ones lately and I miss the feeling of being really impressed by a movie
well.. name a few movies that have really put you in awe
What's the last movie that really blew you guys away? I've watched a bunch of really disappointing ones lately and I miss the feeling of being really impressed by a movie
Fury Road.
Here's the list of Oscar nominations if you haven't seen them yet. It won't win, but it's still a good gesture.
why was jennifer lawrence get nominated for Joy... that was such a standard performance.
Someone who was deciding on screenplays was fucking deluded. - No Sorkin for Steve Jobs - No Tarantino for Hateful Eight - Spotlight as Original Screenplay not Adapted - Inside Out, Ex Machina, Straight Outta Compton even in. [editline]14th January 2016[/editline]
why was jennifer lawrence get nominated for Joy... that was such a standard performance.
Because she's white. Out of 20 nominated actors all of them are white, I can see the PC shitstorm coming Academy's way.
havent seen trumbo, can anyone vouch for Cranston's performance? also ex machina is totally deserving of several more of those categories
Someone who was deciding on screenplays was fucking deluded. - Inside Out, Ex Machina, Straight Outta Compton even in.
Ex Machina absolutely deserves a nomination.
Ex Machina absolutely deserves a nomination.
Not for the screenplay though.
screenplay nominations aren't bad at all, yeah there's no tarantino but we'll get over it.
Idk Emma Watson was decent in Perks of Being a Wallflower.
I think she doesn't even know what the word subtle means.
Idk Emma Watson was decent in Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Which was a sub-par movie made from a toilet paper roll of a book
actually sad for mr. rickman's passing, excellent actor and voice
Dark City - 8/10 I loved the atmosphere of this film. They just absolutely nailed so many aspects. I highly recommend it for anyone into noir. Eyes Wide Shut - 7/10 Not Kubrick's best work but still a great film. Ashes of Time Redux - 6.5/10 If you're into art films that ask a lot of questions without answering them then you'll probably enjoy this film. Overall, it was an interesting and enjoyable film.
Dark City is one of my all time favourites.
Fassbender was DiCaprio's biggest worry but seeing how only him and Winslet got nominated that is now unlikely, this will get zero lobbying and zero support. We'll see how the month will go. Biggest chance has The Revenant for winning, Spotlight was second but this film except the subject doesn't have any catch that could ride as far as Revenant. I see Room as this year's Whiplash - indie newcomer that blew everyone away because of zero expectation connected with the film. Mad Max is a big unknown, but I can see George Miller getting a win for Best Directing, if not out of pure sentiment.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see Fury Road getting nominated for a lot of those categories, it definitely deserves Best Costume Design and Best Director at least. Also nice to see that there really isn't a "useless" film in the Best Picture noms, I was pretty sure The Danish Girl would just be this year's American Sniper although I wasn't expecting Bridge of Spies to get nominated for as much as it did either... [editline]14th January 2016[/editline] also if The Look of Silence doesn't win Best Documentary Feature it'll be the wrong answer just saying
late but eddie redmayne and jennifer lawrence don't deserve oscar noms for those roles

This year it'll be a v tough call who wins what tbh. [editline]14th January 2016[/editline] for all I know The Big Short could win best picture.
Fury Road deserves that Best Picture nomination in the upcoming Oscars.
not on your life
Those nominees suck. the best movies of the year were Ex Machina Sicario Hateful 8 It Follows The Revenant no sicario for best picture? wtf?
Those nominees suck. the best movies of the year were Ex Machina Sicario Hateful 8 It Follows The Revenant no sicario for best picture? wtf?
Probably because people named the films you mentioned higher. Since they've changed the way of choosing films for Best Picture and made it max. 10 it's really weird.
has to have social significance tho... then again a movie about a fucking mop.. the most middle of the road movie I've seen all year mascaraing as an important movie just deserves no attention at all.
can we all just acknowledge for a minute how utterly terrible joy is and how bad jlaws nomination for it is
saw the hateful eight in 70mm last night. i enjoyed the experience, but i don't know if i liked the movie. like it was art, and i've never seen a movie in 70mm before, but it didn't really have any effect on me, which is usually what i watch movies for. i don't know how to explain it except to remember that the movie is called the hateful eight. sure, hateful people, but also easy to hate. i think it had a lot to do with what someone here had told me about tarantino making surreal characters. hugely enjoyable, but not... people that are possible to connect with. and when they start to display human traits, 10 seconds later they remind the watcher that they're just shitty people. which is the point and which is why it was fun to watch, and also why i've not been thinking about the movie since it ended.
no sicario for best picture? wtf?
what the shit man sicario is absolutely the best film of 2015, and it didn't get a bp nom? did it get any kind of nom? i'm glad fury road got a nomination but sicario most certainly deserves it just as much, if not waaaaaaay more.
Probably because people named the films you mentioned higher. Since they've changed the way of choosing films for Best Picture and made it max. 10 it's really weird.
They're not doing ten movies anymore? That's bullshit.
has to have social significance tho... then again a movie about a fucking mop.. the most middle of the road movie I've seen all year mascaraing as an important movie just deserves no attention at all.
And Sicario is relevant. It's not different than Traffic was 16 years ago, and that even got a nomination.
I still haven't seen Anomalisa but I really want to because I'm a huge Charlie Kaufman fan also The Danish Girl looks like some grade-A Oscar bait bullshit by an Oscar bait director. If you really wanna watch a forward-thinking film on transgender people watch Tangerine instead
I still haven't seen a lot of the must-sees of the year and the Best Picture nominations are still really disappointing. I'm kind of appalled that Sicario isn't on there. Last year I was really rooting hard for Whiplash to win it with Birdman as my second choice. This year, I dunno. I guess I'll hope that The Revenant gets it or whatever. Mad Max didn't really leave the impression on me that it seemed to leave on everyone else. Maybe if I watched it again I'd like it more.
