Should probably rephrase it. I meant that this month has been chock full of bad movies that couldn't come out any other time of year.
That's every January though.
you've gotta wonder how Robert De Niro feels when his agent calls him at three in the morning and says "i've got you the leading role in Dirty Grandpa"
Watched Big Trouble In Little China for the first time. Why didn't I watch that sooner?
I just watched that recently too. I forgot to post about it, but it was great. I have watched almost no movies with Kurt Russell in it.
Scorsese should do another gangster flick staring De Niro, he fucking needs it.

That "Irishman" movie was planned with Pacino De Niro and Pesci... but as of now I don't even know if that will ever be made. :(
Watched The Revenant, damn fine movie. It's incredibly gripping and the cinematography is beautiful, DiCaprio killed it. If he doesn't win an Oscar for this I don't know what could.
I should have bought a small popcorn and a large drink instead of both being medium. :/
like the only other performance i can think of that's deserving of best actor would be fassbender in Steve Jobs, none of the other nominees are at that level
i have a v bad feeling dicap wont win and fass will

Also watch Escape From New York (and Escape From LA), The Thing (1982), and The Hateful Eight.
i do like 3 but ofc it's not as good as the first 2.
as long as you think of it as an epilogue then you'll b ok.
[editline]18th January 2016[/editline]
pacino is still dynamite, no question
there's a reason coppola didn't want to call it the godfather part 3, it really wasn't a part 3, but an epilogue as you said.
studio figured it wouldn't make any money though unless it had a more clear connection.
The Forest - 3/10. Boring, cliche forest horror
my girlfriend thinks im over-reacting, but i honestly think that the forest was an insult to its audiences intelligence
i literally found myself saying 'we paid money for this?' when the credits began to roll
a shlockfest through and through
wish i saw the revenant instead/10
The Fantastic Four (1994)
I've seen films worse than this, so i have no idea why this wasn't at least released on VHS. It's shlocky 1990's Roger Corman. I Watched a version of this that not only did someone bother to try and remaster, but someone released a 2-Disc DVD for. It came with commentaries, a restoration comparison, interviews, a Q&A, and even the soundtrack. This is better than some DVD's I've seen in terms of special features.

have you seen the modern FF films, and if so, how would you compare them with the 94 film?
because while i think they're all awful, the 94 film gets points for the best and most accurate dr. doom.
Night of the Comet - Great 80s B-movie scifi. Reminds me a lot of films such as Dawn of the Dead and A Boy and His Dog, but with that 80s aesthetic.

I've seen all of the F4 films and they're all bad for different reasons. Both the '94 and '04 films at least try to have fun, but Fant4stic tries to be serious and ends up being a bigger chore to sit through.
At least when the characters where messing around with their powers in the '04 version, that's something i would expect from characters rather than "Oh god, woe is me! You'll never understand me!!"
Stardust
Pretty nice movie, fairly unique, humorous, good to watch with a SO. Thought De Niro was hilarious in it.
7/10

Looks like out of all future Scorsese projects the one that gets the most pre-production done right now is Mike Tyson biography with Jamie Foxx in the leading role.

I spend too long figuring out what the hell this thing was supposed to be and why it has such a huge mouth. Then I noticed it was its nose.
Anyway,
The last movie I watched was Crimson Peak.
I really wanted to like this movie, came in with high expectations thanks to the trailer and Guillermo del Toro's name on it, but I just couldn't get into it.
The movie looked absolutely beautiful, but everything felt so slow to me, boring even.
I'm going to rate it a 6/10, it had a few good moments and the set design is beautiful, but the movie itself was too slow and not interesting enough to my taste.
that movie is one of my guilty pleasures
Nothing guilty about it, one of my favorite high fantasy films by far
Dogtooth.
I went in completely blind, not knowing what to expect. Let me tell you.
Honestly a really sad movie. Made me uncomfortable. Not like the sleazy uncomfortable, though. It had what you could call funny moments, if taken out of context, but in context they aren't at all. Glad I watched it, though.
The Revenant - 9/10
Now that was a hell of a movie.
i don't understand why it's getting such polarizing reviews, everyone ive talked to (including myself) absolutely loved it
two of my friends i went to see with didn't really like it and ripped it off for its length and, i quote, "over-the-top scenes". i asked them what the fuck was that even supposed to mean and one of them responded: "yeah, like when that bird comes out of the girl's throat or when you see dicaprio's injuries on his body"
same friend also loves the sw prequels so there's that
the bird thing is understandable because some of that stuff is a little hamfisted but criticizing a movie for showing injuries is pretty stupid
[editline]19th January 2016[/editline]
especially considering his body was getting fucking destroyed throughout the entire movie
that's what i said to him, like what was he expecting?? maybe he meant that no human would ever survive the shit that he goes through but i don't care, my brain shut down right after he finished that sentence
and to be fair, it still boggles my mind how can anyone find inarittu's experimental style hamfisted but whatever
people are stupid
people aren't stupid for disliking his experimental style, thats their opinion
i didn't really like the bird shot or the one where his wife was floating, they felt sort of out of place, but that didn't ruin the entire experience for me, i still loved it
Wasn't there a falling meteor in both The Revenant and Birdman? Does this guy put meteors in all his movies?
