Even though it won Best Picture, I haven't heard people talk about Birdman as much and whenever I bring it up, most people said it was Oscar bait. I've seen it somewhere around 20 times and it's easily in my top 5 favorite films ever made. The pace is perfect. The acting doesn't miss a beat from a single person, the cinematography is fucking gorgeous, the humor is funny even on repeated viewings, the music is phenomenal and fits the tone of the story beautifully, and speaking of the story, it's fresh. It's not like films about Broadway haven't been done before, but the way this one is presented sets it apart from everything else. It knocks it out of the park on all fronts and as far as I'm concerned, it's the best movie of the past 5 years or so in general.
I've heard people mention Grand Budapest Hotel more often, but in all honesty last year was so good that out of three main winners - Birdman, Whiplash and Grand Budapest Hotel, every single one of them deserved Best Picture win. God damn Jesus Christ last year was so strong, this one doesn't even come close though.
if the martian beats the revenant in a single thing i will have good hearty laugh [editline]d[/editline] hate to jump aboard the "oscars are a joke" circlejerk but how does anyone take them seriously when they snub ex machina, sicario, and hateful 8 for the most basic movies. i really hope they change. i mean this isn't surprising but man i still cant believe the martian is a contender for best picture, it must piss off a lot of people in the industry to no end

Ex Machina, Mad Max, technically the Revenant, Room, Carol, etc. are all great movies. Basically, the past 2 years have been the best in cinema since like the 80s IMO
on top of that 2014 was also one of those rare years where some of the most mainstream movies were really good, ie lik GoTG, winter soldier, interstellar, lego movie. feels like it's a sign that hollywood might be getting on the right path in general to me it felt like 2014 was harkening back to the 80s. it felt like everyone saw these movies and everyone liked them these past two years have been pretty awesome
that's what i said to him, like what was he expecting?? maybe he meant that no human would ever survive the shit that he goes through but i don't care, my brain shut down right after he finished that sentence and to be fair, it still boggles my mind how can anyone find inarittu's experimental style hamfisted but whatever people are stupid
i guess they missed the part where hugh glass was a real person that actually did survive a bear attack.
two of my friends i went to see with didn't really like it and ripped it off for its length and, i quote, "over-the-top scenes". i asked them what the fuck was that even supposed to mean and one of them responded: "yeah, like when that bird comes out of the girl's throat or when you see dicaprio's injuries on his body" same friend also loves the sw prequels so there's that
i wouldn't even bother arguing with someone like that, can't fix stupid loves star wars prequels, hates the revenant. if there is such a thing as the taste spectrum this man is like 0.0
i wouldn't even bother arguing with someone like that, can't fix stupid loves star wars prequels, hates the revenant. if there is such a thing as the taste spectrum this man is like 0.0
... i like the prequels and the revenant.
that's an entirely different thing though if someone came up to me completely serious and told me how much they love the prequels and how stupid the revenant is and i didnt already know them i would immediately think less of them as a person probably [editline]d[/editline] did this man also do 9/11 by chance?
i didn't really like the bird shot or the one where his wife was floating, they felt sort of out of place, but that didn't ruin the entire experience for me, i still loved it
To be fair...while I did like The Revenant, I'm pretty sure the "bird coming out of someone's chest" thing was already done in The Holy Mountain
I dunno, 2015 was pretty amazing. Ex Machina, Mad Max, technically the Revenant, Room, Carrie, etc. are all great movies.
????? tbh i saw all of those except winter soldier lol, i lumped that in there but most people who i trust said it was good?
i meant to type carol and i said carrie
too late, get out of my class
I don't know if I enjoy the prequels or not. I have lots of childhood memories with them, but man, watching them now is painful. I love how even when I was 8 I thought the sand line was fucking retarded.
I thought Revenge of the Sith was alright. The best part about the prequels was Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan. He did a fantastic job with that role imo.
Watched Starship Troopers the other night. Not the best of films, but a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's made better by mentally replacing the Mobile Infantry with Imperial Guard. 6/10
Watched Starship Troopers the other night. Not the best of films, but a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's made better by mentally replacing the Mobile Infantry with Imperial Guard. 6/10
its def funny at times, looking back when i was talking about i think i was just shocked at how different the book is from it, even past the satire (for instance, virtually no action in it). but if you're satirizing and it works, it works they're both pretty good and i can totally see where the movie is coming from, def slams the source material well for its naivate. the more i think about it the book is just "too perfect" and the movie is such a good response to it http://io9.gizmodo.com/5439145/starship-troopers-is-perfect--and-therein-lies-the-problem
Big Trouble in Little China - 7.5/10 Great film, big fan of John Carpenter's work, highly recommend if you like kung fu, magic and cheesy dialogue
Calling someone stupid for their own opinion is pretty fucking stupid in itself.
in most cases id agree with you but sorry literally my first reaction in my head would be "stupid" if someone ever said that to me and for the record i generally think it's pathetic to base an opinion of someone off a movie but nah id feel pretty safe with this assumption
in most cases id agree with you but sorry literally my first reaction in my head would be "stupid" if someone ever said that to me
I'd probably just think they don't really watch many films, I wouldn't assume they were stupid.
????? [editline]20th January 2016[/editline] hmmmm
Winter Solider was a better Bourne movie than the last actual Bourne movie.
I'd probably just think they don't really watch many films, I wouldn't assume they were stupid.
the revenant is so damn over the top jeeeeez one of the movies they love has a jamaican alien running around speaking english and blowing up tanks, which they unironically like apparently and is definitely not over the top. its just a movie after all, i assume they dont care that much but thats stupid if they fully realize what theyre saying
Watched Starship Troopers the other night. Not the best of films, but a bit of a guilty pleasure. It's made better by mentally replacing the Mobile Infantry with Imperial Guard. 6/10
tbh Starship Troopers is a personal favorite of mine. It is ironically such a great escapist film despite people constantly being killed and torn in half. People often don't realize the film was initially a script unrelated to the book and was expanded to reflect the book due to similarities. Both the book and the film are great when looked at in different ways.
Calling someone stupid for their own opinion is pretty fucking stupid in itself.
rofl copter can't pull it off like some of us
Rusty is the only person whose opinions can be called stupid (except when dealing with John Carpenter films).
:doubt:
People often don't realize the film was initially a script unrelated to the book and was expanded to reflect the book due to similarities.
huh, that makes me like it a lot more
Winter Solider was a better Bourne movie than the last actual Bourne movie.
Winter Soldier was also a good MGS movie
lol so this guy who participated in acting in my short film had previously played a part in 13 Hours. He told me some stuff about Michael Bay that was pretty funny. So apparently he's a bit of a douchebag, he uses his assistant director as a "slave" constantly telling him to do things, even little tedious jobs like carrying a prop somewhere. People on set were talking shit about him, and he was often making shitty jokes that everyone was "fake" laughing at. just wanted to mention this to someone. obviously it might all be totally bullshit, but this guy works on movies as a job and told me he doesn't give a shit about telling these stories. anyway, let me end with a rating or else this is too off topic The Hateful Eight 8.5/10 Beautifully shot, beautifully acted and quite an engaging narrative. I sort of agree with most of the criticism, it isn't as strong as his most recent work (basterds, django) but it still stands as an awesome movie. It's definetly very theatrical, and probably a little too long for it's own good. Some of the dialogue goes on forever and isn't as strong as other dialogues he's written. Great movie anyways, great moments, very violent and I'll watch it again some time soon and maybe change my opinion about it, for better or for worse.

why does physically assaulting Michael bay make him the douche??? wtf
