The Revenant - imax with laser @ London Empire

HOlY mother oF god. :-O
I can't even put word into words, there are things that I saw that I never thought could be done without some kind of computer plasticisation.
Absolutely bewildering bit of cinema and I have to greatly owe it to the impressive screen I saw it at.
IMAX with lasers? I heard about it, but had no clue what it was or why it was a big deal.
But holy shit, this is one of the greatest screenings of modern film I've ever seen. I've been to imax a few times and they all pale in comparison to the quality and precision of this new projection technology.
The colours were so natural and crisp, the darkness really encompassed the screen and let the light creep in which I've never seen before.
And ffs, the sound... what in the christ... there was sound EVERYWHERE... coming from the ceiling, behind in front left right underneath? For once in cinematic history, it's not SHITTY SOUND that's pumped up to the max. I'm gobsmacked how good this theatre delivered, but even moreso that the soundmix catered so well to the setup.
Anyways, I have to say more things other than the awe worthy cinematography and sound. And I do have to say, what a film.
I managed to go into this without having ANY information about the backstory, I avoided the SHITTY trailers, avoided all publicity and what a feeling m8.
In reality, this film isn't going to be the most original pathway you'll find, however what it is does and how it get's there is the entire strength of this epic. It flowed so symphonically for me, it being just over 2 and a half hours, they were so soothing and it was so invigorating.
The twatness of the audience was successfully subsided by this film's brilliance, I think a lot of the patrons were baffled by a LOT of this film. It's v challenging too, you've got things to tackle when this Leo bloke starts doing stuff that really gets into your soul.
And for goodness sake, he did it. If this isn't his Oskar Schindler, then I have no idea what is. And Tom Hardy was actually very surprising, I was expecting a middle of the road style from that guy but his mannerisms genuinely gave a solid backbone to the piece. gr8 stuff.
Here's a selection of films that I feel go quite well with this experience:

but then you just add ice to ur tv and it's the same^^^^
So to sum up. I still can't quite describe my experience because each frame and soundbyte hasn't quite sunk in yet. But I have to say, it was righteous from start to finish... right in the heart.
And for those who want to ask whether H8FUL EIGHT or REVENANT is preferable... now that I've seen both in the most ultimate way possible...
the answer is....
go fuck urself they're both v good.
The end.
videodrome, the fly, and crash are also good to watch
I'd also recommend eXistenZ.
Videodrome would be my main suggestion though.
watch eastern promises

The Dead Zone, Scanners, The Fly, Crash (1996), Videodrome
Star Wars VII - Good, but safe film, as expected. Looked great in IMAX 3D and was actually good unlike the prequels.
The Martian - Another safe, but good film.
District 9, again.
Still love it, still want a sequel

why would you want a sequel when he already remade the movie twice but worse each time
Maybe the ACTUAL sequel will be good? :quotes:

chappie > elysium
elysium wasn't bad but could have been better. it had an average plot with beautiful visuals.
also, i'd assume those movies all take place in the same universe. district 9 would be the earliest, then chappie and then elysium.
i'd rather he kept doing more original films than make a sequel to any of them.

I don't think it needs a sequel, the ending is good on its own

Scanners is also worth a watch.

elysium was fine but boring and a rehash of things we've already seen with a weak script
chappie was insulting and made me want to pull my hair out

"original"
he's literally remaking the film every time. trying to recapture the magic of the first with all the same elements with new characters. they might as well all be set in the same universe. they all have the same tone too.
he would have been better off actually creating a sequel to something people already liked, instead of doing something "original and new" without it being original, or new.
Chappie was a horrific mess that tried to be too many different kinds of a movie.
For a rare change, I completely and wholly agree with Rusty.
The Big Short
Reminded me of The Wolf of Wall Street, despite being total opposites. Maybe because of Wall Street and everybody calling each other a motherfucker, but that's beside the point. The film had a wonderful, manic energy to it, and I really liked how self-aware it was. They also did a good job of simplifying the idea of the housing bonds and why they were such horseshit. Christian Bale and Steve Carell were both excellent. I think I like funny Ryan Gosling more than serious Ryan Gosling. Adam McKay needs to do more movies like these.

I want to hang this on my wall
The Big Short
Oh lord, how this is getting praise or Oscar nominations is SO fucking beyond me. The movie literally pauses to apologize for how boring and confusing it is, cuts to Margot Robbie who "explains" the housing crisis (poorly), and then returns to the same boring storyline FOR TWO FUCKING HOURS
Unless you have a keen interest in mortgages or accounting or banking, I would not recommend this. Most bored I've been at the theater in a very long time. This movie's entire dialogue might as well have just been complete gobbledygook to me

I liked this movie a lot more when it didn't assume that its audience knew everything about banking
aka I liked Wolf of Wall Street
Captain America: Winter Soldier - I see why you guys have said it is one of the better of the recent Marvel films.

Crash is amaaazing. Not to be confused with the 2004 Crash where apparently everyone in LA is a little bit racist inside, that movie's not very good at all.

Y'know it's still generic big-budget action movie slop but it's...fun. There's a lot of really cool moments and I like that they're on the back foot for the majority of the movie. The pacing is a bit off in some areas but it's a pretty tight movie throughout, I'd have to give it a solid 6/10 for just being fun.

Crash is my favorite Cronenberg film by far, it definitely takes more than one watch to really appreciate but once you do it's a masterpiece
No Country for Old Men
This was my fourth watch and honestly, this movie is just a timeless classic and absolutely amazing. Such great cinematography paired with an intense story, where characters are more defined by their actions instead of boring exposition. Also I finally understood the whole deal with Ed Tom, which was always hard to understand.
Honestly, everybody needs to watch this.
What really caught my attention is just the amount of detail, care and caution that the characters have. The cat and mouse game between Moss and Anton is absolutely fascinating and utterly engrossing. I've never seen anything like it. Even if the movie is extremely slowly paced.

I'd like to mention The Brood as well. A very underrated movie, and definitely one of Cronenbergs best.
The Revenant - 9/10
if there's any movie leo deserves an oscar for it's this one. man that was good
i really liked how grounded and brutal it was. like when [sp]he was hiding from indians, and they just immediately found him bc you know, they're trackers[/sp]
the length is perfect too, really expertly cut and never felt dragged out once. quick 2 and a half hours
sicario was slick. story is grounded and harsh but the score and cinematography are what really kept my eyes glued to the screen
Automata is on Amazone Prime video already so I guess it failed at the box office?
Watched Pacific Rim again. Gotta give it a solid 7/10, it's just a super fun movie. It's not ~magical hyper intelligent movie 4ever~ or anything, it's a fun movie that's really enjoyable
I like Pacific Rim because I saw it to watch giant robots fuck up giant space aliens and that's exactly what I got. Nothing life changing, it didn't have any deeper meaning, its just good entertainment.
