I like Pacific Rim because I saw it to watch giant robots fuck up giant space aliens and that's exactly what I got. Nothing life changing, it didn't have any deeper meaning, its just good entertainment.
nah man, it told us how the ever advancing technology of our society will one day lead us to our doom, our only option for salvation being the old and "outdated" pile of shit.
What I liked the msot (besides monster fighting, of course) was the score. It had a lot of elements from Ifukube, as well as being simple and to the point.
Spectre- 7/10. I think I'm ready for a new Bond and maybe a new direction for the series.
direction? its been veering on and off the road for the past 4 movies, the series can't decide what it wants to be anymore daniel craig isnt the problem, he is a great bond i think
Craig is a fantastic bond, in my opinion. He's closer to the Fleming novels. He plays a good spooper serrs spy man.
The issue with Craig is that he really seems to hate playing Bond, even though he's my favorite I watched the two X-Files movies with my parents in preparation for the premier tomorrow and I don't really know what to think of them. The 1998 one felt like a very long, quality version of a regular episode, but the second one was weirdly religious and scattered and had a really cheesy ending. [editline]23rd January 2016[/editline] That being said, I did squeal like a faggot when Skinner came back. He's the best character in the entire show.
Maybe some new writers? Get rid of Purvis and Wade, find some fresh writers?
The Martian I liked it, i'd say a 7 or 8/10
This Must Be the Place - 7/10 I started watching it with 0 expectations (I don't like Sean Penn for some reason and the premise sounds retarded) but I actually really liked it. I've never seen a Paolo Sorrentino movie before so I didn't know what to expect but it was a relaxing, occasionally funny, really nice looking movie with a great soundtrack. Sean Penn looks like an idiot the whole time but he really grows on you throughout it all and I ended up really liking his character. You could probably say this movie is a character study now that I think about it. The tone was a bit like a more subdued Frank (the Fassbender movie), where promotional stuff makes it look like a straight up comedy, but the real movie is just slightly funny and kind of depressing. I want to know if anyone else has seen this because I have some plot things that I'm wondering if I'm interpreting it right, but I don't feel like typing it out if no one here watched it

He's a great Bond and will be remembered quite well for it. But with I think I'm ready for a new face and style of Bond.
That was the norm in the 20th century, but I think it would be really jarring for someone other than Craig to play bond for maybe a decade after whenever his last movie is. The movies are more serious; it would sort of be like if Bourne were played by someone other than Matt Damon (he wasn't even replaced in that spinoff and it still did horribly because it didn't have Damon). Speaking of which, which would you guys say is the most serious old Bond movie?
Dr. No. [editline]24th January 2016[/editline] They're all fairly serious up until Diamonds Are Forever, and they stay pretty campy until Casino Royale.

Synecdoche, New York - When I was finished I was actually in awe. One of the greatest films I've ever seen. Somehow managed to convey many different emotions in the same film, often intertwined. I will definitely have to rewatch this a few times eventually to pick up on a lot that I missed.

It's truly an amazing film.

I saw it when I was about 14/15 and thought it was a pile of shit. Probably time to see it again.
I love Charlie Kaufman. Maybe it's time to finally pick that movie up.
Surprised you haven't seen it already. I would say it's his best film. One of the most powerful movies I've ever seen, and hoffman's best performance as well.
Have you heard about that film from Sundance where Daniel Radcliffe plays farting corpse and Paul Dano drifts on said corpse towards the dry land?
[t]http://nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Swiss-Army-Man-1.jpg[/t] In Swiss Army Man, a Sundance debut from first time feature directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Paul Dano’s Hank, trapped on a deserted island and ready to do himself in, spots a corpse (Daniel Radcliffe) rolling in the surf and figures the young man with decaying blue skin probably felt the same way. First he yanks Radcliffe’s belt (better for strangling himself) but he notices the body is explosive with intestinal gas. Like the monkeys with the bone in 2001: A Space Odyssey, Dano rides Radcliffe like a jet ski, his fricative flatulence propelling him to civilisation. Believe it or not, the movie’s only about to get weirder. Finding themselves lost in a wooded area, Radcliffe is squeezed for the fresh water his open jaw collected in the rain. Is any of this actually possible? Before you can think on this too much, Radcliffe is soon revived (a revenant!) and, while no less helpful, also something of an inquisitive boy.
I mean, it has Paul Dano, it has to be good.
It also features a kiss between Dano and Radcliffe (who continues to flee his Harry Potter image by taking part in a reoccurring gag where his dead character maintains an erection).
what the actual fuck this can not be real
It sounds absolutely amazing.
Bridge of Spies (Steven Spielberg, 2015) 8/10 Solid political thriller with a neat Cold War background. Great direction and photography and a nicely thought-out scenario with interesting characters played by talented actors. The very ending was pretty bad though, cheesy and felt completely inappropriate to the tone of the rest of the film. Still very entertaining, though I regret it doesn't explore its themes more deeply.
I'm surprised it's not a comedy.
It's indie [sp]I sure as fuck hope it's a satire of pretentious, unwatchable independent films being edgy and deep[/sp]
The 5th wave. Jesus christ, i still can't believe i wasted my money on that piece of cake. Plotwise it just reminds me of that story about an artist with developing alzheimer's who had been painting self-portraits up until the point of his death, you just need to replace the artist with the film's scriptwriters and the paintings with the script respectively. It's relatively ok in the beginning, but it gets more and more horrible as the storyline develops, with the final chord of dumbness in the ending. The film is full of cliches and has almost no logic behind pretty much everything in it's plot, not to mention that it probably got the dumbest aliens since Battleship. There are also no nice special effects or something, though i'm pretty sure they saved a lot of money by throwing in that idea of the aliens being able to occupy people's bodies and replacing them with regular actors. Oh, did i mention that the acting was also just hilarious? But my favorite part of the film is it's dialogues. Just want to more or less precisely paraphrase one of them for you: - You're lucky your parents named you after a star, cause i was named after my father's favorite ice cream. - But i'm sure he loved you more than that ice cream. - Yeah, probably. And it's full of shit like that.
Gonna go see Anomalisa tonight unless something major comes up. Excited for more Charlie Kaufman.
man i have to admit the revenant is the first movie that's had me thinking about in the back of my mind for so long after, and i already plan on watching it again today. someone said before that you literally wanna live in it and i totally get that now lol
i mean i don't want to live in it, life sucked for fur trappers
Sunshine 9/10 It's maybe my 10th time watching Sunshine, but it will likely forever remain in my top 10 favourite films of all time. It's characters are great, the setting is amazing, and lends itself to the further development of some really great characters. The plot is just what I want out of a film like that. Camera work is amazing and for a space film, it really nails the perfect level of anti gravity and real world motion(I get dizzy in films with a crazy amount of spinning camera and space like camera work, think Mission to Mars) and conveys everything it needs to. The lighting and special effects are unquestionable to me, I don't even think about the impossible things i'm seeing, I just believe it. The story is great in my opinion. The only thing that makes this a 9/10 for me is the ending is a bit wonky, but that's okay.
