I'm lucky in that I have TWO movie theaters within a 5 mile radius from my house Although I'm gonna hold off on seeing anything until maybe next month because the last three movies I saw in the theater turned out to be disappointing and I was getting tired of sinking money on shitty nights out
i mean it is the start of the year, other than Hail Caesar! there arent many movies to look forward to for a couple of months
dredd sentence: straightforwardly great
i mean it is the start of the year, other than Hail Caesar! there arent many movies to look forward to for a couple of months
January is the month I use to catch up on all the movies from the previous year I haven't seen yet Creed was good, but Carol didn't live up to my expectations and The Big Short...more like The Big Shart lmao
big short is one of the most polarizing movies that has come out in the past year, i feel like i should watch it but im not super interested
I hated it, liked pretty much nothing about it Annoyingly precious fourth wall breaks, ugly Paul Greengrass cinematography, characters that don't behave or act like real people, boring dialogue filled with banking and financial terms that I was completely lost on. Christian Bale somehow landed an acting nomination despite doing nothing all movie besides acting weird and listening to Metallica
The Big Short was okay. There was a lot I didn't like, such as the editing and some of the cinematography, but it was interesting and featured great performances.
Watched Kid in the Striped pajamas, I feel like dying 10/10. That movie was seriously some sad shit.
if you think that's a 10/10 movie you should go watch schindler's list now
Watched Kid in the Striped pajamas, I feel like dying 10/10. On the topic of awful Holocaust movies I really really really fucking hated Life is Beautiful Nothing like making an extremely tragic historical event into a game
any movie that bastardizes the holocaust sucks i feel like BWTSP paints this picture that somehow they all had no idea what was going on with all this "innocence lost" bs reminds me of the episode of Band of Brothers where they round up everyone in the town next to the concentration camp and basically tell them "fuck you, you knew exactly what was happening"
On the topic of awful Holocaust movies I really really really fucking hated Life is Beautiful Nothing like making an extremely tragic historical event into a game
i'm not sure what you mean by "hated" as in, it was so damn good, gut-wrenching, taking all of your feelings and playin bingo with them "hated" or you thought it was a piece of shit "hated"?
Starship Troopers. 8/10 Does it fit the original book? No, not by any means. But it is a fantastic goddamn movie, great soundtrack, kickass effects, and just all-around entertaining. It's one of Verhoeven's best

wow that was weird, literally put the link in my post the second you said that lol the fight scenes are absolutely incredible, it's like watching a movie. already the polar opposite of starship troopers and i'm only like 50 pages in [editline]d[/editline] also apparently John Carpenter's "Vampires" is based off one of his books. would be pretty neat if he did a movie on Armor too
just watched Sicario, and boy was that heavy can someone explain to me though [sp]the point of the tunnel op? Matt had told Kate earlier that they intended to stir the pot enough for Manuel to be recalled to Mexico in order to find out where Alcaron was. but Manuel was already back in the country, and they knew this. was the point for Alejandro to be able to hijack the policia estatal cruiser so that he could use it to pull over Manuel? that seems like a really fragile plan. was it just fortunate coincidence that Alejandro was able to run into and command the cop to take him to Manuel?[/sp] really liked the direction of this film though. felt similar to the Hurt Locker and Traffic, plus some interesting cinematography and excellent sound design that helped maintain an appropriately tense atmosphere throughout.
big short is one of the most polarizing movies that has come out in the past year, i feel like i should watch it but im not super interested
I liked The Big Short, but I think you need to be in the right mindset to watch it.
I hated it, liked pretty much nothing about it. Like so: Annoyingly precious fourth wall breaks, ugly Paul Greengrass cinematography, characters that don't behave or act like real people, boring dialogue filled with banking and financial terms that I was completely lost on. Christian Bale somehow landed an acting nomination despite doing nothing all movie besides acting weird and listening to Metallica
I thought they did a good job at simplifying all the banking mumbo jumbo. And I didn't mind most of the fourth wall breaks, since it was mostly Ryan Gosling acting as a narrator, but there was one that did bug me with Jamie and Charlie where, right after finding the shorting proposal, they explain that it didn't happen that way, but one heard about idea at a party and told the friend. They seriously could have shown it like that and they wouldn't have needed to do a break. Also Christian Bale did a great job at playing someone on the spectrum, imo. [editline]29th January 2016[/editline]
[sp] was the point for Alejandro to be able to hijack the policia estatal cruiser so that he could use it to pull over Manuel?[/sp]
[sp]They knew the cartel were using cops to smuggle the drugs in Juarez, so they probably anticipated one being there. Also, that tunnel is now under CIA control, unusable to Juarez.[/sp]
christian bale is good at playing pretty much any role. another one of those guys like leo/daniel day-lewis who you can tell takes his work very seriously

The rest of the stuff was just a distraction or I guess kind of a pretext for the whole thing.[/sp]
i'm not sure what you mean by "hated" as in, it was so damn good, gut-wrenching, taking all of your feelings and playin bingo with them "hated" or you thought it was a piece of shit "hated"?
It was overhyped piece of shit. But then I come from a place where we're taught about Holocaust and its horribleness from the very beginning so that shit does nothing for me. [sp]Schindler's List and The Pianist were very good though, that's how you want to approach this subject.[/sp] [editline]29th January 2016[/editline] Also Roberto Benigni is a fucking hack, him getting an Oscar that year was one of the biggest misunderstandings.
the latter, I can't deal with the Holocaust being trivialized
It didn't "trivialize" it at all, did you even watch the movie?
i'm really sorry but i thought sicario was pronounced Sizario for some reason. :-(
this movie is like those ponys photoshopped into the holocaust so they can empathise with them, except for nazis instead millions of jews got gassed, but lets make a sad movie about the 1 nazi boy who got gassed with them wow that poor innocent kid I REALLY SYMPATHIZE WITH HIM
It's a shame cause the book is pretty good, and you sympathize with the kid because it's written from his naive perspective. Basically its narrated from the pov of someone who has no idea what's going on around them, but as a reader you pick up on the details and piece it together and it gives you the "oh shit" effect. It's nearly impossible or really hard to give the same effect in a movie, since you basically see what is happening visually and not imaginatively.
the latter, I can't deal with the Holocaust being trivialized
Seems like you completely missed the point of the film. Obviously it depicts the Holocaust a bit softer than it actually was (so I guess that means it was trivialised slightly) and that there is no way the events that take place in the film could ever really happen. However, the film isn't about the Holocaust, but rather one about the human spirit. I mean, sure the main character could just accept his fate, become depressed and live the final days of his life with his son in misery. However instead he decides to spend those days making his son happy, giving him hope and protecting him from the horrors of the concentration camp. IMO all this film does is make the Holocaust seem less horrible than it was, so they could slip some light-hearted comedy into the film. It's been ages since I saw the film though, so maybe I'm wrong, but in my eyes the film doesn't trivialise the Holocaust, but rather explores it through comedy and tragedy. While I'm here I may as well give it a rating. I actually don't care much for the film, I thought it was pretty average, probably a 6/10.
You guys complain about the Olocaust movies you got Did anyone ever watch "Life is wonderful", with Roberto Benigni? That's shit
You mean Life is Beautiful? Haven't seen it in a long time but I liked it.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (J. J. Abrams, 2015) 8/10 Really great during the first half or so, loses some inspiration on the second half. The main thing I disliked was that too much was left for the sequel ([sp]no one important dies except that one guy[/sp]). So is it going to be another trilogy? I noticed and really liked that (not so) little reference to Portal 2, that was a nice touch. I just googled it, didn't find any info? Didn't anyone notice it too?
