i thought that dredd only benefited from all these dry relationships between the characters
Benefited? From all these dry relationships? I don't know about that.. I don't think all the relationships were dry, but this relationship between MaMa and the IT-guy was especially off, at least to me, because the IT-guy seemed like a really valuable asset and not easily replaced. [sp]They had even given him bionic eyes to better control the building's security system, so why would MaMa ever threaten him with violence/skinning etc?[/sp] Now of course, maybe the point is to show how violent and abusive MaMa is throughout the film, but the constant threatening of the most valuable IT-technician in the house comes off as non-sense to me. I find all the characters just fine though, regardless of anything, very drugged up, and cut up, and so on. Love that shit. [editline]30th January 2016[/editline]
[sp]She was coercing him to work on the computers via threats. Made sense to me.[/sp]
Yeah but.. she'd never kill him? So it makes little sense to me to threaten him, or have him constantly on his edge, all nervous and shit for "no reason." [editline]30th January 2016[/editline] Anyway, it does make sense if you look at it that way, simply coercing him to work the computers, but that's not good enough for me.
Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) - I thought that was absolutely great, but should I eventually watch the theatrical cut? I've heard mixed things about it compared to the director's cut.
I always recommend watching the theatrical version first just to get the same experience everyone else did, then watching the DC later.
So I watched Lazer Team. The film was pretty good, but not amazing by any stretch of the imagination. There were some funny bits, and some exciting action bits, and some decent CG. But there was also some really, reallu shitty CG [sp](those aliens at the end :dead:[/sp] All in all because I'm a Rooster Teeth fan, I enjoyed it. If I wasn't a fan of RT, I would have probably found it very mediocre. 5-6/10. [editline]30th January 2016[/editline]
Kingsman: The Secret Service - 8/10 Really really enjoyed this. The action scenes were god damn insane, and I loved every second of it. That fucking church scene, jesus.
And the Bar scene, don't forget that one. The fight choreography in that film is amazing. Brad Allan is a genius when it comes to epic fights - he did Kickass and World's End as well.
The Pest (1997. John Leguizamo, Jeffrey Jones, Dir. Terrence Malick) 10/10 a masterpiece
The Revenant I was just blown away, this is such an amazing piece of cinematography. Not perfect but just excellent.
A lot of shooting..?
Five Deadly Venoms The movie was sick as fuck and a great example of '70s Hong Kong kung fu movies. I liked the fact that there was a bit of a mystery/cop movie to it, but the kung fu was still at the forefront, and the five different styles were cool. I felt that the subtitles were a bit weird and poorly paced, but I think that was Netflix shitting the bed and not the filmmakers. Ong Bak There were some bits where the acting could have been better, and I felt a little weird about the not-particularly-subtle nationalism placed in there, but the movie was great because the chase and fight scenes were excellent. The fights were easy to follow because there wasn't any shaky-cam or other shit, and at the same time they were well choreographed and showed a lot of acrobatics and style. The light-hearted moments of the movie didn't feel out of place, especially in the chase scenes when there needed to be something extra to keep my interest. The Raid 2 I know the thread isn't too fond of the 1st movie, but this one was great, and improved upon the first in pretty much every aspect. There was a better story involved that didn't rely on a weird [sp]villain is the good guy's long lost brother[/sp] twist. The fight scenes were more violent and intense, which really helps the movie because there isn't a lot of acrobatics like in Ong Bak. The camerawork, while shaky, was also pretty good, as it wasn't used to obscure anything. There were definitely moments when the camerawork shined because of how elaborate it was, the most obvious of which would be during the highway chase sequence. Overall, it's better than the first in nearly every way, and I would even say the first is worth skipping if not to just watch this one.
I wasn't aware the thread didn't like the Raid: Redemption? It's a fucking awesome martial arts movie. The Raid 2 is an awesome martial arts movie mixed with mob warfare and politics.
havent heard any raid hate that said i like the raid 2 loads better. its the fucking best [editline]31st January 2016[/editline] they are both sick though obviously
the raid 1/2 are def next on my watchlist of action movies to see with my dad, thanks guys for reminding me i think he's really going to enjoy them considering how much he liked dredd
The Raid is Dredd with +1 Flourescant Light Tube stabbings. I'm gonna watch it now actually, terrific film.
The Raid is Dredd with +1 Flourescant Light Tube stabbings. I'm gonna watch it now actually, terrific film.
Well, the Raid doesn't have shit like the "Hot Shot" :v:
Just saw Spectre last night. It wasnt as bad as Quantum of Solace, but man was it average. It had serious pacing issues, plot holes... It was so slow at the start, never moving the plot in a significant way, but at the end they jump back and forth and so much happens. Christoph waltz is the most underutilized actor i have ever seen in a movie. Also while he was decent he didnt have a "trait" that made him special or interesting. Movie had a interesting premise but failed to deliver. 6/10(?) EDIT: some additonal stuff: - Pretty disappointing coming from Skyfall to this. - as i said this movie felt pretty slow, but i actually thought several times during this movie "when is this going to end?". i think the movie was 2.30 hours long, when i saw the hateful eight which is 3 hours long that went very quick compared to this movie.
I hit the fucking jackpot. My brother and I went to a record store that's only 2 minutes from my house. In the back, I found a big ass DVD section where all movies were under 5 dollars. Total haul: Drive on bluray, usual suspects on bluray, district 9 on bluray, the departed, goodfellas, Assassination of jesse james, se7en, and social network collectors edition for 33 fucking dollars. I spent more money than that on 2 blurays at bestbuy. I'm gonna head back there when I have more money and buy another 8 or so movies that I wrote down.
Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) - I thought that was absolutely great, but should I eventually watch the theatrical cut? I've heard mixed things about it compared to the director's cut.
I've honestly only ever seen the theatrical cut, and it's one of my favorite movies. I need to watch the DC sometime.
I just saw Threads, goddamn, it's a proper horror film. Miles harder to stomach than The Day After. Probably better too, and a little early for its time. Fantastic apocalyptic film.
Thelma+Louise. 8/10 would rewatch, fuck up dude's days+hold a polite stickup again. But actually: Great lines. Great scenery. A weekend away turns into a fun adventure road trip movie. Good mix of slow/fast-paced sections. Bittwersweet ending.

what about testament? now make it a trilogy and grind dat soul to mulch
Then throw in 'Come and See' for good measure. 83-85 was a depressing time.
naw man that's 1 too far... that will surely obliterate guts and all. :'-(
I wasn't aware the thread didn't like the Raid: Redemption? It's a fucking awesome martial arts movie. I guess I was wrong, either way, The Raid 2 is a good watch.
the hateful eight - 70mm presentation i think i've never been so happy about a movie in a very long time. the moment i heard the thing soundtrack, my heart melt the hateful eight takes everything i love about tarantino and carpenter's works and crafts them into this stunning three hours long product: the 70 mm presentation was perfect, astounding and breathtaking the first two acts felt like half-an-hour, was totally sucked into the dialogues and the characters' motivations. the third act wraps up the film in a very modern tarantino style and i can kinda see how it's not considered to be on par with the first two hours but to me, it was still very very good.
Thief, from 1981. Very nice crime drama. Bit of a hidden gem.
Anomalisa 7 / 10 Animation was frankly quite amazing. The fact that they could achieve uncanny valley with stop-motion was quite impressive. This along with the pseudo-comedic beginning and the subtle touches of [sp] neurosis [/sp] carried the beginning of the film, unfortunately, I found that the middle of the film, the part with Lisa after which the movie is named, was actually quite boring. The ending was fairly good again though. [sp] I also wished that they had played with his psychosis a bit more too, like with visual tricks and stuff, and more things like his dream sequence. [/sp]
Riddick I was going to watch the whole trilogy last night, but I decided against it. The first twenty minutes or so are great and I seriously wish that that was the whole movie: Riddick trapped on a planet and forced to survive with nothing but his wits. The rest of the movie isn't bad, it just could have been better. It's better than Chronicles, at any rate. I just kind of wish it didn't turn into a Pitch Black rehash (although it would have been really cool if that ended up being a surprise in the theaters).
A History of Violence - 6.5/10 American Beauty -8/10 Under the Skin - 7/10 Dredd - 8/10 12 Monkeys - 9/10
12 Monkeys - 9/10
I watched an edit of 12 Monkeys where someone removed the future parts so Bruce Willis ended up looking like a crazy person and you don't know if he's telling the truth or not. It was an interesting version of that film. EDIT: Actually, that would make for a good movie on it's own.
Turbo Kid🌠🌠🌠🌠 out of five shooting stars
In Bruges - Really funny movie and a good crime thriller at the same time.
