In Bruges is tied with American Psycho for my favorite black comedy
Badlands 8.5/10: brilliant movie that spawned many imitators. Excellent juxtaposition of people and serene environments, but not as heavy handed as later Malick films. Also love the subtle humor
Room 8/10: the first half is absolutely perfect, but the climax happens a bit soon. Exceptional performances all around (the kid actually deserves an Oscar nom), the highlights of the film are through the child's perspective
A History of Violence - 6.5/10
American Beauty -8/10
Under the Skin - 7/10
Dredd - 8/10
12 Monkeys - 9/10
why did you rate ahov so low compared to the others? i've only seen it once but thought it was absolutely great, at least worth a 7/10.
What the fuck, lol.
Had a similar reaction to when i watched it.
The Road to El Dorado
8/10 Fun animated movie. Still enjoyable all these years later. Too bad it never got any sequels, i wouldn't have minded to see what the creators could have done with the two main characters and them going on adventures finding gold.

Just finished watching this and I definitely agree, this one really surprised me and I wouldn't have watched it had it not been nominated for Best Picture

Not him but I think AHOV is very overrated and one of Cronenberg's weakest, I thought it was very predictable, poorly edited, and I felt like all of the actions within the movie didn't say or communicate anything to the point where it felt weird like I was being tricked or something
Now, Eastern Promises...that is a movie
In Bruges is tied with American Psycho for my favorite black comedy
I like anything with "Tyler Perry's" in the title
I had some friends who hadn't seen any John Carpenter before, so we had a double feature of Big Trouble In Little China and They Live. Both great movies, both a ton of fun, and both are must-sees if you haven't already.
finally saw the new star wash
it was p good, but way too long to be seen in a cinema imo.. and the contrast made the 3d ghosting very noticeable so that was annoying
and of course i got spoiled all the major plot elements the week it was released so that's that
way too long to be seen in a cinema imo
i know it's your opinion and all but that's 100% wrong in every way.
i know it's your opinion and all but that's 100% wrong in every way.
I'm just not fit anymore to watch stuff without pausing, I get tired even if it's my favorite movie of all time
I'm just not fit anymore to watch stuff without pausing, I get tired even if it's my favorite movie of all time
that sounds fucking atrocious
i can understand going to the bathroom or something but if youre honestly criticizing a movie for being approx 2 hours then youre going to alienate like 75% of good movies
[editline]31st January 2016[/editline]
seeing long movies in a cinema is usually better than seeing it at home, just from my experience
I still watch them, but I don't have the attention span to do anything longer than 5 minutes without getting bored.
ADHD medicine kinda helps, but then I get stuck in other stuff
Right now I'm watching mythbusters on my couch while writing this, if I had it on my pc it usually takes a few days to finish an episode
Then that's not an issue with the movie, it's an issue with you as a person.
Then that's not an issue with the movie, it's an issue with you as a person.
Totally, but I'm not saying it is, either.
Clerks - 8/10
Chasing Amy - 8/10
watching these back to back was pretty cool. jay and silent bob are the best recurring characters
finally saw the new star wash

i mean you're listing this as a bad quality of the movie when its not the movies fault
i didnt love TFA but this is a terrible criticism
wtf i hated the new stars but it was two hours long lol
whenever people complain about the length of movies as a major flaw i wonder why they even watch movies in the first place
i mean you're listing this as a bad quality of the movie when its not the movies fault

Yeah true.
When I get a vr headset I'll never go to a cinema again
well anyway, back to movie ratings
i finished the berserk trilogy today
9/10 jesus christ what did i watch, i want more.
I'm just not fit anymore to watch stuff without pausing, I get tired even if it's my favorite movie of all time
i feel if i pause i've ruined the movie
[editline]31st January 2016[/editline]
even if it's 4hrs...
you must prepare or you just won't absorb dem good vibes.
Also, saw two movies recently.
Black Swan- 10/10
I try to watch this movie every year or two and it always gets better every time I watch it, and I've seen it five times. Try to go in blind for the best experience.
I really liked Black Swan but I hate how it gets so much praise when it's very clearly just a remake of Perfect Blue, which is imo even better and in my top 5 films of all time

I don't think they're gonna do any more movies, but they are starting up a new series that continues the story.
controversial opinion: Aronofsky's best film is The Wrestler
i don't think that's a controversial opinion at all
on top of that im pretty sure its his highest rated movie
It's Such a Beautiful Day - 10/10
Existential, emotionally powerful film by Don Hertzfeldt, creator of the Rejected commercials. Highly recommended if you like his style of animation using ancient equipment.

it's definitely Requiem for a Dream
I like The Wrestler, Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream equally for different reasons.
I think The Wrestler has the most heart. Being a wrestling fan growing up, I watched a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s, and I've met Jake "The Snake" Roberts (and saw him wrestle live for a small show of about 100 people. Didn't he retire?) and Bret Hart. The Wrestler seemed almost like a more fictionalized version of Jake Roberts to me, maybe with a little bit of Mr. Perfect thrown in with a touch of the hair metal era. It's also another movie that gets better every time I see it because it kind of feels like a time capsule for 2008. I came from a small town, so wrestling didn't have a huge scene, but when they had to perform local shows, they'd have to go all out like Randy The Ram did in The Wrestler with the hardcore matches, even if the pay was shitty and your home life was barely even worth keeping up with the terrible paycheck. Even when he tried to share his glory days with Adam, he seemed like he just kinda wanted to leave. It's a really sad movie, but man, it's one of my favorites of the 00s.
Shit, now I gotta go watch The Wrestler again.
What I loved about The Wrestler was that it hit painfully close to home for me at that point in my life. I went in expecting a sports movie like Raging Bull and ended up getting a deeply complex character study about a man who isn't good at anything other than a niche sort of interest that most people couldn't really relate to. And despite this, the scenes I remember most are the ones that aren't relevant to the plot but add to The Ram's character - the scene where he was joking around with customers while working in the store deli, for example
I have a few friends that are into wrestling but I've never been into it myself. The Wrestler also opened my eyes to how wrestling is so much more than just a "soap opera for men" in that it's actually an artistic performance of sorts, but instead of using your body in an elegant way like a dancer it's used in a destructive, extreme sort of way
It's also worth noting that Mickey Rourke completely blew me away, he was perfectly cast and I wouldn't change anything about his performance
Yeah, I'm also due for a rewatch. Looks like I know what I'm watching tonight

how is that controversial.. mickey rourke stapled how gr8 he actually was.. and with such a misguided career for a gr8 actor it's depressing
[editline]31st January 2016[/editline]
if u see his 3min cameo performances in expendables and the pledge and aren't gobsmacked why his agent doesn't get him gr8 roles then im damned
how is that controversial.. mickey rourke stapled how gr8 he actually was.. and with such a misguided career for a gr8 actor it's depressing

perhaps it isn't controversial, but I haven't met anyone else that's seen it

most ppl dont really care for film
if u want to talk about film with someone, and it doesn't delve past "ye i saw it, it was ok", then they simply dont care.
It was actually a movie that took my father out of a depressive slump in his life and it inspired him to turn his life around.
If it wasn't for that movie, I arguably might have never met my father. I hold it very close to my heart.
2 scenes that have no bearing on the plot of either film.. yet he steals it in 1min.

I wish I could watch films with my parents, they're both Mormon and refuse to watch anything that's rated R
Really wanted to watch Eternal Sunshine with my mom because I wanted to show her a romantic movie since she likes those, but "fuck" is said a few times and suddenly it isn't kosher or whatever
There isn't even any nudity ffs
