Predestination 7/10
Can we stop with the DVD bashing. Not all of us have jobs y'know.
that sounds like ur problem??
I brought my PS3 and The Shining blu-ray over to my friend's house who only ever watched 10/10 720p YIFY rips on his big 50" TV and it changed him. People like to say "oh i dont care about quality" until they actually see what they're missing.
Macbeth Here's to the people who say that you can't squeeze anything new from Shakespeare. It was simply stunning from the visual POV - the lighting, the cinematography it all just looked stunning (a shame that it came out the same year as many other stylistic films so it couldn't get any recognition). I simply have not seen anything Shakespearean done like this. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/19339593/Zrzut%20ekranu%202016-02-01%2010.55.41.png[/t] Fass was the bomb, with every film he proves that he's just the best actor out there right now. The rest was okay. It's still Shakespeare's though, in its traditional form so if Ol' English drama is not your taste, you will most definitely won't enjoy this film.
if i had something that could play blurays i might consider start buying them, but $70 for a reader just for a few movies is ridiculous imo i don't even have anything that plays dvd's anymore
I bought The Room on DVD because why would you want to improve the visual and audio quality of The Room?

It's Such A Beautiful Day 10/10 Absolutely brilliant film by Don Hertzfeldt. [sp]Went in expecting the film to be mostly comedy, and ended up thinking about death and what slowly losing your memory must be like.[/sp] [editline]1st February 2016[/editline]
but literally never put anything in AUDIO_TS.
AUDIO_TS was where files for the DVD-Audio format were stored. DVD-Audio failed because nobody wants to use their DVD player to listen to music.
Dvds are still a huge thing here in the US. I work at Sony in DVD molding across from Bluray and our department was crazy during the holidays compared to Bluray. We had to work 20 days in a row to meet demand before Black Friday.
The only movie I would watch on DVD over blu-ray is The Blair Witch Project.
I still remember the first time I saw blu-ray I was in fucking awe about how much better it was. When I actually have a good stable income I'm going to buy like fucking everything on blu-ray unless something physical surpasses it (which I find unlikely since digital copies and streaming are the future).
how does it compare to polanski's macbeth or kurosawa's throne of blood? does it bring anything new to the table besides its great visuals?
I'd compare it to Polanski's iteration the most, few scenes seemed to portray the same vision that Polanski has created in 1973. But I liked the portrayals more - not only Fassbender's Macbeth is more convincing as a blood-thirsty warmonger basically without redemption but Cotillard (who usually I hate for her lack of range) is more defined than Francesca Annis as Lady Macbeth. She's not straight up evil but you can side with her, for believing she had good intentions (it's wrong when that character is showed as 100% innocent or at fault). Also Banquo and Macduff. It was a stellar job from the entire cast actually, even Jack Reynor as Malcolm surprised me, the entirety reminded me of some of the BBC or National Theatre versions which are the "defining" ones. And as much as I liked it, it kind of is "seen one, seen them all". I'm a Shakespeare buff, so I'll watch all iterations with great interest, but it doesn't bring that much novelty to justify watching, if you're not interested in that sort of thing.

A concept of Macbeth's child is introduced and it plays a role in the conflict between him and Banquo - the envy of his destination and his children, not necessarily fear of being overthrown. It tries to make him minimally more sympathetic for the audience but it's very subtle. I caught it but I doubt someone seeing this story for the first or second time would pick that up.
I used to be one of those idiots who thought DVDs looked fine and thought Blu-Rays were a waste. The first Blu-Ray I watched was a Fistfull of Dollars and that changes EVERYTHING for me. I had seen it before on Netflix but it looked so much better. Too bad our TV is an early HD TV and only has 1080i, and not 1080p (at least I have my computer monitor).
Anomalisa 7 / 10 Animation was frankly quite amazing. The fact that they could achieve uncanny valley with stop-motion was quite impressive. This along with the pseudo-comedic beginning and the subtle touches of [sp] neurosis [/sp] carried the beginning of the film, unfortunately, I found that the middle of the film, the part with Lisa after which the movie is named, was actually quite boring. The ending was fairly good again though. [sp] I also wished that they had played with his psychosis a bit more too, like with visual tricks and stuff, and more things like his dream sequence. [/sp]
I don't think Micheal had a psychosis. Unless you say that being detached from everything emotionally could be seen as one?
its a goddamn fucking tragedy when good movies aren't remastered onto bluray and the only thing that exists is a shitty dvdrip somewhere
its a goddamn fucking tragedy when good movies aren't remastered onto bluray and the only thing that exists is a shitty dvdrip somewhere
like The Iron Giant though I think its finally gonna happen now that the signature edition is a thing.
like The Iron Giant though I think its finally gonna happen now that the signature edition is a thing.
I seriously believe the bluray will come out this year
I caught it but I doubt someone seeing this story for the first or second time would pick that up.
I doubt anyone whose first experience of Macbeth is the 2015 adaptation would even understand the story fully, let alone pick up subtle depth in the characters. I felt that, although it's visually incredible, it could have done with a tiny bit more of the dialogue kept in. I understand keeping out some of the scenes to avoid further confusion (like the stupid porter scene or the test of loyalty between Macduff and Malcolm) but I'll admit that I'd be lost in the movie if I hadn't read the play before.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: 10/10 This movie is among my personal top 10 movies, maybe even my number 1. Watching it this time, I'm actually paying attention to the cinematogprahy and god damn I never truly realized how nicely shot this movie is. One of the best examples is the scene where Indy and Belloq are sitting in the bar in Cairo, and for much of that scene Indy is in the foreground and Belloq is in focus as they speak, it only changing twice, once to show the pistol being traded hands (and that's a really short shot) and then at the end of the conversation when Indy says they should go meet god together. The effect that the long take has there is awesome if you ask me, drawing you into their conversation, making you momentarily forget the other patrons (whom Indy had only previously said wouldn't care if they killed each other) as you get drawn into Belloq's delusions about the Ark and then suddenly snapped out of it with nearly everyone pulling out a gun and Indy suddenly being humiliated by a bunch of kids.

I wouldn't start with Stalker
is Stalker anything like the videogame? just curious i'm guessing it shares the basic stuff like anomalies etc.
Space Cop 7.5/10 eeeeeehhhhhhhhh, I was never bored or had negative thoughts while watching this but nothing really memorable happens throughout the entire movie. I don't understand how Mike can write such great dialogue for his Mr. Plinkett reviews and then write a movie as plain as Space Cop. The practical effects were great though, but the digital effects really suffered. There were only 3 good digital effects and those were the ones that the canadian guys did. but for a youtube company i understand that they didn't have the resources to do better.
