[sp]I don't think the climax was supposed to be any sort of imminent catharsis. I do agree it was fairly drawn out, but I think the film recognized this. By the end, you, the viewer, are just exhausted. Not necessarily excited that he got his revenge, but glad that it's finally over with. This kinda plays into what Glass' emotions must be like at the time. Sort of like having a week with waaaaay too much work to do...once it's over, you're not so much happy as you just wanna go to bed.[/sp]
Poor comparison, but that's just my take on it.
the climax isnt the [sp]suposed inminent catharsis that the character is suposed to experience. the climax was the duel between glass and fitzgerald, but happens so late and the message about glass determination is so buried under the two hours of scenery and the rather dull plot that you end siding with Fitzgerald instead. shit would had been far more enjoyable if it didn't drag the story for so long[/sp]
[sp]that you end siding with Fitzgerald instead[/sp]
What.
At no point did I feel that during the film. [sp]Fitzgerald shown himself as a heartless, self-serving, greedy bastard throughout the entirety of the film, how could anyone at any point feel the need to side with him[/sp]
[sp]So the movie would had ended an hour earlier and the plot would had been far more condensed. by the time glass falls from a cliff riding a horse and survives you realize that his plot armor is so thick there is no point in empathize with a character that will not die anyway.[/sp]
[sp]plus he's right at the end. all that sacrifice and death would not bring glass's son back.[/sp].
I might have to rewatch the film in the future at some point, but if anything i don't know why people is actively expecting dicaprio to win an oscar for this - he has done far better in the past.
i saw deadpool
it wasnt as bad as i thought
like 70-80% funny. i wouldnt watch it again. but i didnt hate it. thats the most u can really say for marvel films. id give it a 'go see it with cheap tickets' rating.
Going to see Deadpool next Tuesday, not sure what to expect because it looked pretty bad but now people here are saying it's good and one of my Facebook friends who is a huge film snob said it was better than GotG. :wideeye:
Also on the subject of 'intentional flaws', like a film being boring or exhausting on purpose, it's hard not to just say, "so what?". Intentional or otherwise, boring is boring. My least favourite film is Irreversible, because it's a horrible film. It's intentionally horrible, Gaspar Noe tells a disgusting story of rape and murder in reverse, literally with a constantly spinning camera at one point to 'disorient the audience'. The end product is something that is literally impossible for most to watch. So what's the point?
I regret every moment of watching that god awful film, and I honestly believe that anybody who argues that it was a worthwhile artistic endeavour is either delusional or dishonest. Artistic choice is not immune from criticism, and most times people use it to defend a film they're wrong about that being the intention anyway [sp]not with Irreversible though, man, fuck that film[/sp]
I certainly felt freezing during the film; having known it was a 'cold' movie, I wore a light jacket and ordered an Icee to drink while watching.
It added to the atmosphere of the movie, at least to me.
I went without dinner to the cinema so when I saw the scene of eating raw meat and Leo hiding disgust the hardest he could I was like "Why is he complaining, I would eat the shit out of that liver, hot damn it looks tasty"
Immersion 10/10, 5D cinema the future all the way.
also where does deadpools 'maximum effort' come from because i cant think of anything other than it being a crysis joke ???
[editline]14th February 2016[/editline]
which would be ridiculously obscure

No shit he had plot armor, it was based on actual events. A man with a broken leg and beat up body really did make his way 200 miles in the wilderness after being left for dead.
Deadpool
As a skeptic I thought it was pretty good. A great number of jokes though didn't make me laugh at all, and were really really dumb sex-butt-dick jokes. Others worked, and others were really funny. The audience was awful: everyone would burst out in laughter at the mere mention of "jerk off!!!11" and remain totally silent when a more smart and subtle joke was made. Goes to show the kind of people that the movie attracts.
But as an R-rated and pretty low budget thing, it's worth a watch just for a little fun. It's nothing amazing, in fact it has flaws. The villain is probably the most boring and standard I've ever seen (even power-wise), the story itself is nothing special at all, and the cinematography is bog standard and pretty bad in some points.
I'd say 7/10

Nobody is denying that, but circumstances of his travel, his wounds, his adventures while being half-dying the entire time - that probably with 95% certainty got maxed up and dramatized for the purposes of the film
No shit he had plot armor, it was based on actual events.
It was based on (to an extent) on a novel, wich in turn was based off the experiences of a frontiersman in the 1800. I guarantee you it was overdramatized and exagerated from the actual events as someone pointed out already. the problem with the plot armor is not that is there, but the fact that the only real consecuences to all the damage he's exposed is so unbearable high its almost unreasonable the only side effect of all that is having his voice muffled up.
hell, a dude with an arrow injury died as they were boarding the boat to safety with far less.

Holy shit if that's actually a Crysis reference that's way out there
So now all a sudden we are turning on Fury Road because of Rusty's opinion? But then again I'm surprised Rusty liked Deadpool

Facepunches opinions work like this:
On release, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
A few months later, it's total overrated trash.
Things like Batman TDKR is a prime example, and more recently is GTAV for games. Bioshock Infinite back in the day got this treatment too.
Give it a few months and I'm sure everyone will call TFA worse than episode 1.
batman 3 really broke the entire nolan spirit tbh... from then on I Just ain't that excited for new Nolan movies.

I'm pretty sure it's more along the lines of 1. people afraid to go against the hype and 2. hype dying down
Honestly, most people have accepted that TFA has its fair share of flaws but its still miles above the prequels
So now all a sudden we are turning on Fury Road because of Rusty's opinion? But then again I'm surprised Rusty liked Deadpool
i didn't. i realize that some retard reviewers thought fury road was pushing the feminist envelope, when the extent of that was some lady who writes for the vagina monologues was brought on-set during the filming of the movie to help the brides immerse themselves in the world of being a sex slave. also, they just didn't write stupid characters, furiosa is nothing more than a modern ripley.
at some point, a bunch of other ding-dongs started spouting "for being a mad max movie, max is hardly in it/the main character" and yet this has been the way of the franchise since the road warrior, they just refuse to let the polish wear off. he's not supposed to speak a whole lot as he's a shell of his former self, and often is the one key guy to helping other people's plights. he spends the movie starting out almost fully insane, slowly regains some humanity after helping people, only to be left wandering in the desert again and thus going back to being insane. that's how it's been, that's how it will be, and complaining about dumb shit like the interceptor being destroyed is stupid. arguments like this might have worked if it wasn't written and directed by miller, but that isn't the case. seriously, the vice interview explains a lot of how it works.

Radioactive Dreams
I typically don't watch schlock movies, but after I read that this movie was an inspiration for Fallout and it was on YouTube, I figured I'd give it a try. You can tell where some things came from, like the '50s throwbacks, mutants and the idea of emerging from a shelter to a post-nuclear world. They even go out to look for their fathers at one point (recycled in Fallout 3, maybe?) A lot of the general style from this movie appears to have been ripped from Mad Max, however. There were some enjoyable moments, I liked the opening bit in the shelter where the two guys, Phillip Chandler and Marlowe Hammer (seriously) were playing records and getting ready to explore the wastes as private investigators, and I liked the ending where they basically just started dancing, for some reason. The music was okay, some decent '80s ballads. Other than that, it's fairly boring. The directing is pretty lame, there's some weird edits that try to hide jump cuts or otherwise missing shots, the lighting is pretty bad, and the characters are all kind of annoying. It's not great, but if you're mildly curious, it's out there.

I may as well link it. Personally, I hope someone has a VHS to send in to Best of the Worst. I'd love to hear what they have to say about it.
Deadpool. 8/10. Solid movie.
batman 3 really broke the entire nolan spirit tbh... from then on I Just ain't that excited for new Nolan movies.
The Dark Knight Rises revealed all Nolan's flaws and thanks to magic of memes made them really memorable and standing out. I remained hyped for Interstellar, but came out like "meh, that's okay", while before after Nolan's film I was blown away every single time.
Like still, his name is the only thing I need to go to the cinema, because he delivers but there's no excessive excitement.
Or maybe that's what growing up is.

8/10 is only solid?

Mostly I think it's because his failures when it comes to writing are most clearly shown in TDKR and Interstellar. He's still a blockbuster director, but his movies are very high quality in comparison. I still absolutely love Interstellar even if it has some pretty damn messy writing.
i've only seen dark knight rises twice
because the second time i watched it, everything stood out. it's almost as campy as batman and robin.
8/10 is only solid?
Do you people really have to reply every time someone posts a number score. It wasnt over the top and the humor wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. Happy?
anyone else think the rev was kinda boring? yea it was gorgeous and yea decaprio actually ate a fish and ofc tom hardy was great as per norm, but the film as a whole felt repetitive and sorta became stagnant after that first fight sequence

he's a fine director but it always seems to me like big bombastic blockbusters are something he has to try really really hard to make. after tDK and Inception he's been pegged as some kind of action visionary and i guess feels a need to live up to that, but really he's most knowledgeable about small-scale personal stories with a sprinkling of action or sci-fi. imho every time he tries to be grandiose he just outgrows his boundaries very quickly and everything gets really stupid

I disliked all of those since the beginning, the writing in all of those is shit.
At cone. hes almost at shyamalan level twist wise. I deffo go into Nolan movies with an expectation of a (not really necessary) last minute subversion
Saw Deadpool today(valentines day) and there were loads of people and a lot of them were couples, pretty surprising.
Good audience too, lots of laughter at different parts. You could hear where a huge group of fans sat and where the general audience sat, pretty funny.
Some people obviously didn't like the violence but oh well, I was kinda surprised at some parts too.
Movie itself was quite enjoyable too, a bit overdone here and there maybe. Pretty good since I usually dislike the latest Superhero movies.
I also like that it didn't resort to making fun of other hero movies which would've been a little cheap.
Probably gonna see it in English next time.
more surprising for me than the violence was the fact it had straight up uncensored vag. always thought that was the threshold for an 18 certificate, in the UK at least

no it didn't?
are you telling me we had a censored version?
