gotta appreciate that us Brits get it pretty relaxed content wise
Wasn't rated R here though, was rated 16+ and still had plenty of gore

Running time is 108 minutes, no censorship
So now all a sudden we are turning on Fury Road because of Rusty's opinion? But then again I'm surprised Rusty liked Deadpool
yes everyone is "turning on" your beloved fury road
Facepunches opinions work like this:
On release, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
A few months later, it's total overrated trash.
Things like Batman TDKR is a prime example, and more recently is GTAV for games. Bioshock Infinite back in the day got this treatment too.
Give it a few months and I'm sure everyone will call TFA worse than episode 1.
my eye twitched a little when i read this post
Do you people really have to reply every time someone posts a number score. It wasnt over the top and the humor wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. Happy?
yes why!! are we going to reply this is only a forum for discussing movies
especially when you give movies like southpaw the same ratings sorry but prepare for film nerds to vent their frustration on you
I'm fine with discussion but not with pointless replies. As for Southpaw, we all have guilty pleasures and that was one of them. Plus that movie really isn't that bad, it got decent reviews.
Saw Deadpool. Loved it, but had some annoying brat behind me along with a whole bunch of other little kids. The chubby little 8 year old kept reading the opening credits out load and talked the entire movie. Why the fuck would parents bring their children to an R rated film?

it's just a thing that happens
my sister and i saw watchmen, family of four came in and left as soon as blue dick showed up on-screen. you would think the R rating would be enough, i had this discussion with some dumb shit on facebook. i haven't even seen deadpool yet, but it's obvious as fuck that it isn't a kid's film.
Damn, I remember there being quite a few kids at Watchmen and none of them left.
I don't get how a young kid would even enjoy Watchmen tbh.
I don't get how a young kid would even enjoy Watchmen tbh.
because they thought it was a superhero movie like any other. their parents obviously didn't do any research on it, either.

i hope you didnt give them money for it because i did. in a way im glad i saw it bc now i know to trust my gut instinct more often when it comes to movies
big bad boxer got it all
wife dies
damn dis is sad *tear*
i gotta get redy for da fight *rocky soundtrack*
it was tuff but i won *applause* ;)
all done in the most hamfisted way as possible. i couldve sworn it was a parody on underdog movies
[editline]d[/editline]
all the boxing aspects were retarded and unrealistic too so not even that part was fun
[editline]d[/editline]
it is literally the most basic movie i can think of so it should get an award for that maybe
I don't get how a young kid would even enjoy Watchmen tbh.
they'd probably enjoy it just for how totally kewl Rorschach is
whenever Rorschach's not on screen all the other characters should be asking "where's Rorschach?"
he's a fine director but it always seems to me like big bombastic blockbusters are something he has to try really really hard to make. after tDK and Inception he's been pegged as some kind of action visionary and i guess feels a need to live up to that, but really he's most knowledgeable about small-scale personal stories with a sprinkling of action or sci-fi. imho every time he tries to be grandiose he just outgrows his boundaries very quickly and everything gets really stupid
With most of auteurs (and Nolan certainly is one, despite making only blockbusters recently) you can point out those that are much better directors than writers and vice versa. For example, Tarantino is a terrific writer but is much weaker at direction (thus "stealing"), and Inarritu is an amazing visionary who sometimes lacks in telling the story.
Yet, with Nolan it's a funny case - he's both great and he sucks at BOTH of these (though I guess I could make a minor case about him being better at directing).
At one hand, you have Memento and Inception which are brilliant examples of his intriguing vision. Both of these projects would be really hard to pull off for a weaker director. They're gripping, fresh, and basically timeless with huge rewatch value. And at the same time he completely messes up action scenes. It's his mark that he's able to immerse you completely to the point that during watching, you're able to forget, turn off the rational side of the brain that says: "What you're watching makes no goddamn sense". I'm talking e.g. the infamous convoy scene from TDK or the entirety of TDKR.
Same thing is with the writing. He's perfectly capable of creating great motifs and executing them. Despite creating this huge, large-scale films they all have a smaller, personal layer, more often metaphorical, but rather "George Lucas in your face metaphorical" than subtler. He understands what it takes for a viewer to connect with the character and is able to play with it accordingly. But at the same time it's a guy that okays lines such as "NO MORE DEAD COPS", "A LOTTA LOYALTY FROM HIRED GUN", "I CAME BACK TO STOP YOU", "IT'S NECESSARY" (I can go all day on that). But then once again he had some really memorable monologues, like the ending of TDK.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that Nolan for sure is skilled enough for the job but lacks supervision. His last three films were created practically without anyone from the studio interfering. Some guys can handle it perfectly, but others... not so much. Having said all that I'm looking forward to 'Dunkirk' very much. I just don't get my hopes that high.

Congrats on being genuinely upset over an opinion and different taste in movies.
upset? no i actually laugh at the thought of people who habitually watch movies taking southpaw seriously
;(;(;(
imagine watching southpaw with a straight face, nodding your head "yeah, yeah. this shits fucking good"

im being a dick but its everything i hate condensed into one
I don't think any Nolan film has particularly good writing. At best it's functional, at worst...let's just say it transcends time and space. Which is fine because his visual direction usually more than makes up for it. Dude also needs to find a better editor, it's pretty apparent in Interstellar but extremely obvious in The Dark Knight trilogy.

i've only seen birdman and revenant, but inarritu does not lack in telling story. i don't think tarantino lacks in directing either.
what i do think is that nolan got comfortable. he had some real neat out-there films, and then he made batman, and thus started his downfall into thinking he was some cinema savant.
i think its a bit redundant to call southpaw shit at this point. everyone knows. its atrocious. it will be forgotten and i dont care anymore

Can anyone even say with a straight face that The Prestige is badly written?
ive probably said it before but nolan films always had 'flaws' just like every other film ever, they were just so well done in the past in every other way that they were minimized and due to powerful narrative and just generally being great at storytelling. i do think he got comfortable and too big for his boots in later films and his flaws got bigger while his storytelling diminished.
the logic & story gaps and weird dialogue started small and just got bigger the more creative control i think he got, probably due to less script editing, or potentially too much editing. i'm not sure which.
but he still tells a good story, it's just a same they make less and less sense as his filmography goes along. memento will still be the best.

its worth talking about in that its the best objective example of a money making machine aimed at audiences and nothing more
sorry southpaw triggers me
more surprising for me than the violence was the fact it had straight up uncensored vag. always thought that was the threshold for an 18 certificate, in the UK at least
I haven't seen Deadpool but the BBFC have guidelines on all of their ratings that they use, for the 15 rating it states.
Though nudity may be allowed in a sexual context there will usually be no strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context.
You can also see their "insight" notes on the films page which details why it was given that rating.

This is why the UK (and whatever other countries) is great; you have to be 15/18 or older in order to get in, not "unless you're with an adult". So instead of an annoying kid ruining the movie you get an annoying adult ruining the movie.

For once in my life I actually envy the UK. Rather deal with annoying adults than children. You can't yell at kids or else you look like a monster.
Sicario - 7/10
Good acting and cinematography. Too bad the movie itself was mediocre and didn't really have anything special to make it stand out. Would've given it a 6 but the ending was good.
