i would like other australians to confirm or deny lack of genitals in deadpool?
For example, Tarantino is a terrific writer but is much weaker at direction (thus "stealing"),
homaging =/= stealing
i would like other australians to confirm or deny lack of genitals in deadpool?
i really wouldn't be surprised tbh
also, it's kind of ironic how much conflict a numbered ratings system causes, when the theoretical point of a numbered scale is to have universal reference points
but i think a lot of people, speaking for my own country, get tripped up by exposure to the most prominent form of numbered grading here: that found in public education, which uses 65 or 60 as a 'point of failure,' leading a lot of movie viewers to come to think of an 'okay' movie being a 6-7 and a 'pretty good' movie being 8+
What do you think of Beetlejuice?

funny, not for today's kids.
don't like the idea of a sequel. just the movie + animated series thanks.

Borrowing would be much better word, because stealing has a negative connotation.
Homaging is fine, but it really stops being homaging when you build your entire film out of it. Quentin has matured over the last 20 years so it's not that apparent, but when you look at his first films it was obvious that by recreating smallest bits of his favourite films he recompensates his lack of directional skills. And he was good at it, so there's no harm nor shaming him for doing the patchwork.
But when you look at his last three films, he grew exponentially, with Hateful Eight being almost completely his most original work (minus Il grande silenzio references)
Beetlejuice animated series is a fond part of my childhood.
The movie scared me shitless
i've only seen birdman and revenant, but inarritu does not lack in telling story. i don't think tarantino lacks in directing either.
Lack as in their specialty is the other thing. Inarritu is willing to "sacrifice" (like again, not literally, because he's not making it shit for the purpose, come on, for example by not making it especially convoluted) the story for the sake of the concept, while Quentin creates this sophisticated dialogues and many storylines crossing each other, and then tries to match the direction.
The best modern example of matching those two elements in harmony and giving them the same amount of attention is Wes Anderson. The direction fits perfectly with quirkiness of the script and vice versa. One would not work that well without the other.
Deadpool (2016)
Mediocre. Zuimzado has said everything that needs to be said, I think.
What I would like to talk about instead is the fucking terrible Russian dub. The actors they pick sound boring and uninspired, aside from the guy that dubbed TJ Miller. Yeah, he is still a saving grace of this movie, even overseas.
Sure, some dick jokes flow better in Russian (it's a much more swearing-colorful language), but holy hell is the localization atrocious. You're under a constant barrage of obscure actress names and location mentions no average viewer would understand, if any at all.
By the way, they added memes. Yeah, fine Russian memes.
3/10, the only thing that could possibly salvage this movie is a blowjob in the theater.
Isn't mediocre 5?
when you think the movie is a 3/10 it probably doesnt really matter what adjective you use to describe it
when you think the movie is a 3/10 it probably doesnt really matter what adjective you use to describe it
Eh, who am I to talk? I'm the one who likes the Kung Fu Panda Trilogy. Will see Deadpool at one point, and I think I'm gonna stick to a letter grade score imo.
Anything below 5/10 would be a good candidate to simply walk away from it and do something else with your time.
I saw pixels on a trip back home from a con and i cant understand why on earth people would even watch anything remotely related to adam sandler anymore.
Its like he's only doing movies to make out with the (mandatory) suport actress at this point and get paid for it.
iirc he said he just likes being paid to go to exotic filming locals lol
Liquid Sky - Well that was a unique film. Felt a lot like some sort of fever dream.

One of my favorite Tim Burton movies.

Deadpool:
super good
Full Metal Jacket:
I'm no stranger to dark war movies or books, with the stories and absuridty of war being one of the most fascinating things to me.
That said, I don't think a war movie has ever hit me so hard. This was something else, and in a good way. Well crafted movie.
9/10
13 hours - i'd rather have gone to see deadpool/10
crappy movie, but apparently it was pretty accurate in terms of what happened.
just do yourself a favor and wait for the dvd.
yeah, fmj is something special. that and platoon are the best war movies ever made imo
[editline]d[/editline]
and private ryan obviously. still though, fmj and platoon leave such an enormous impact
[editline]d[/editline]
top 3 for me
The Insider - 10/10
Without firing a single bullet, Mann still makes a movie just as intense and thrilling as his other movies. Excellently acted and paced, Mann is definitely one of my favorite directors now if he wasn't before.
yeah michael mann's stuff is pretty amazing. the diner face to face in Heat remains one of my all time favorite dialogues
[editline]d[/editline]
everything he does vibes with me so well - Collateral, Heat. great noir movies that leave such a "cool" feeling with that LA nighttime setting

i haven't seen platoon yet (its on my shortlist for the next movie im watching), but i'd say fmj and all quiet on the western front are the top two best war movies made. the last time a movie hit me like this was actually when I first read, and saw the original version of All Quiet. pvt ryan is great too, but for different reasons.
tbh they're all really good, in a class of their own. its really hard, at least for me, to say "well x is better than y" when you're talking about films of that caliber since they're so well put together, it's almost pointless.

I couldn't remember what that was, so I had to look it up.
Michael Bay film
oh...
possibly unpopular opinion but i thought pain & gain was pretty hilarious
and its essentially michael bay mocking himself
I remember liking the first Transformers, but I haven't seen it since it was in theaters. Never saw the sequels. The Rock is pretty good though.

pain and gain was so reprehensible. just an evil film
