Saw Deadpool again today for like the, uh... 4th time now. This time on IMAX. Still a 10/10 movie. This is my #1 favorite movie of all time right now. It's so crazy good. I'm gonna be watching it a fifth time next week, most likely. I can't get enough. [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] I'm gonna end up single-handedly funding the entirety of Deadpool 2. I can feel it.
I watched district 9 three times in cinemas but wow, I wish I enjoyed movies this much
I watched district 9 three times in cinemas but wow, I wish I enjoyed movies this much
I usually don't, that's the thing. I tend to be picky as hell. I mean I only saw one or two CG flaws (animation errors, felt like it anyway), but other than that I love it so much and I'm gonna end up buying soooo much merchandise.
its like im on /r/movies except instead of super obnoxious and annoying its kinda sweet
That can be said about almost any fandom. Try disagreeing with fans of Bergman or Tarkovsky, or god forbid Godard. Heck, I was once accused of not getting the brilliancy of Christopher Nolan after criticizing Interstellar. "It's not bad, you just don't get it, the power of love is a very smart explainer of what happened!"
Thank god someone else can agree with me about Godard's fans, I've only seen Breathless (which I didn't care for) and then made the mistake of posting about it on the IMDB forums :surrender: [editline]19th February 2016[/editline] Christopher Nolan fans just make me roll my eyes at this point, it's pretty much a giant glowing neon sign that you've seen nothing but entry level stuff. Memento was good, the rest of his filmography is OK at best
I watched district 9 three times in cinemas but wow, I wish I enjoyed movies this much
I've seen that film a similar amount of times now. I still [sp]break down crying at the end[/sp]
Hell, Janet Leigh said it best. It's impossible to make a bunny rabbit menacing. This needed to be something like Airplane or Blazing Saddles; used as a background for jokes while occasionally poking fun at the ridiculousness of it all.
Dude
Django Don't get it twisted, Django is obviously a great film. But in terms of Quentins work I felt it a little weak in spots. The attempt of some humour with Jonah Hill and the raiders was awkward. the main bonding between Jamie Fox and The German was pretty much skipped with a paragraph of text midway through the film explaining their winter together. The shoot-out in the house was quite un-needed and seemed a bit out of place, the German suddenly thought after this long journey, I'm going to get myself and possibly my two friends killed just because a guy (Leonardo) got the better of you? Eh... But still, great watch, amazing performances all round 8/10
Thank god someone else can agree with me about Godard's fans, I've only seen Breathless (which I didn't care for) and then made the mistake of posting about it on the IMDB forums :surrender:
I always thought it was an established fact that Truffaut > Godard, but Jean-Luc's fans didn't get the memo. Breathless was boring, but apparently it was done so on purpose which suddenly elevates the entire thing to some sort high art, so unsurprisingly its hipster's favourite. I get and am willing to accept its place in film history by kickstarting French New Wave, but as a standalone film in 2016 it's borderline unwatchable.
I actually like Alien 3 a lot. I'm conflicted about Aliens because in my opinion it's a great movie and a good sequel but the genre switch really bothers me (because I liked exactly how it was in Alien; perfect mix between horror and science-fiction). Alien 3 tried to emulate the first film more, and brings interesting themas and dilemnas to the table regarding prisons, and also of course isolation (as any good Alien film should). I genuinely liked the characters and the music, and also the finale (the version where it doesn't burst at least). Anyway, we can all agree that Resurrection is terrible. The only good thing about it is its art direction, but that's all. I had to look very hard to find that one good thing.
I liked the original Alien the best. Aliens was good but it doesn't even compare to Alien imo. Also Alien is visually better than Aliens as well.
I dunno why I like pre-2000s visions of the future more than all the CG holographic stuff we get now. Maybe it's how we thought CRT monitors would always be around.
its like im on /r/movies except instead of super obnoxious and annoying its kinda sweet
Yeah, in every other place on the internet I outright despise ultra-positivity. Here, I don't mind it.
Terminator 2 I cried at the end the whole movie was beautiful.
I liked the original Alien the best. Aliens was good but it doesn't even compare to Alien imo. Also Alien is visually better than Aliens as well.
On the other hand Aliens is the one i love. the pure carnage and action packed scenes are a thing on its own, let alone the final fight. Aliens 3 on the other hand was slow as hell and tries too hard to be "back at its roots". the dogalien really doesnt do any justice to the movie when ripley already singlehandlely defeated a queen. Alien as a franchise's only sin is to shift between genres between sequels. you have Alien being an horror flick that genuinely upsets you, then you get to Aliens where they're a fucking horde and you get to blast em with redneck space marines using shotguns, then it tries to go back to being a thriller in aliens 3, then back to action in resurrection and evetually something awfully odd on prometheus. Like, i'm probably one of the few that can actually enjoy resurrection (even more when you realise the script was heavily borked for some dumb reasons) for its ony flaw was to be concieved in an era were reboots were absolutely garbage - and the fact it was panned agaisnt something as glorious as Starship Troopers.
The Witch - 6/10 It's really atmospheric and drawn out, and while it's not a very visually pretty movie, there was a lot of interesting camerawork that's easy to appreciate. The story's really simple and it didn't need to be anything else, and while the ending was hilarious as I watched it, on second thought I think I sort of like how it turned out. Just don't expect to be scared, since it relies very little on actual horror. It gets a bit uncomfortable at times but it's more just a look into a family falling apart while trying to hold onto Christianity. If you want a laugh, pay attention to the older son's terrible acting at times. There's nothing really wrong with the movie but it just didn't leave an impact on me. It's very competently made, but I felt like everyone in the theater during the credits was just like "alright neat" [editline]20th February 2016[/editline] There is an awesome moment near the end though, [sp]when Thomasin starts talking to the devil and he responds as all other sound gets drowned out.[/sp] But yeah don't listen to the people saying it's the scariest movie in years, it's not and it's ok that it's not
Hitchcock's "Birds". 7/10. Good message to people, but the birds' actions are quite ridiculous and sometimes ruin the tension. PS: also kids are quite bad actors sometimes.
What do you think of Midnight Run?
The Babadook I was going to go see Deadpool with a friend tonight, but the theater's power ran out because of all the wind that we've been getting in Chicago, so we watched this on Netflix. I really enjoyed The Babadook and it was genuinely creepy. The cinematography and set design were top notch, they both really added to the atmosphere. I didn't really like the kid so much, but he didn't keep me from enjoying the movie. The other performances were pretty good. Over all, good movie.
Old School 6.5/10 pretty funny, bit unreasonable/unrealistic, but great as a late night comedy when you're not trying to be too engaged or follow a complicated story, had quite a few laughs from it, and the absurdity added to that. The 6.5/10 is because it wasn't really an amazing movie or anything, but I still enjoyed it a great deal, ratings are terrible at expressing enjoyment compared to critical perceptions and all that. side note: I'm sick of seeing facebook reviews (Read: shit post comments on the trailer by highly opinionated late-teens/young adults) on 2oolander, everyone's comparing it to deadpool and saying how shit a movie the new zoolander is by comparison, i'm sure it's not an amazing movie and probably not as good as the first, but it shits me off when people compare movies like that over hype and don't really offer much other than 'it was shit watch this other movie instead you'll enjoy it more'
Thinking about rewatching Drive yet again. Out of morbid curiosity, is there any legal way to watch that BBC rescore?
Ok, just saw The VVitch, genuinely unnerving film. Cinematically speaking it was fantastic. It never stops being really tense and the acting is overall pretty good. Doesn't fall into too many horror cliches either. The Witch is brutal. Solid 9/10 for me.
Andrzej Zulawski has died. Most of you are probably unfamiliar with his movies, but he directed one of the freakiest horror movies of all time: Possession. I need to rewatch it now.
It's only after a rewatch I realized how much Villeneuve's Enemy borrows from it.
Well, I was forced to watch The Fault In Our Stars last night. There were actually a few really touching moments, and I really liked the character of Isaac. However, the two main characters (and their relationship) are so ridiculously fucking unrealistic that it was hard for me to take anything seriously. [sp]They fucking made out in the Anne Frank museum in front of a bunch of people and THEY ALL STARTED APPLAUDING.[/sp] Bad.
Holy shit what the fuck is this real?
That was basically my reaction. It was almost exactly like something from /r/thathappened except a lot more inappropriate.
That was basically my reaction. It was almost exactly like something from /r/thathappened except a lot more inappropriate.
You know I looked that scene up to watch, but I feel like even by watching it ironically I'll be a terrible person.
Crimson Peak 5/10 The movie kinda had potential, till you realise the second half kinda goes on repeat and the ghosts don't really do anything. I would only recommend this to the craziest of Loki fangirls.
deadpool it was fine. deadpool himself wasn't very funny, he gets annoying in the first twenty minutes but the ending and the action scenes really make up for him (i really appreciated the gore) the humor comes from the other characters surrounding deadpool such as the indian guy and colossus who i loved in this movie, he was great watching this movie in a packed theater was a fucking surreal experience: some people were laughing at EVERY SINGLE thing deadpool was saying, some were APPLAUDING at some very bad jokes and i swear to god, at one point when deadpool said "chimichanga!!" the guy behind me exploded in laughter repeating this classic deadpools line i felt like an alien

That doesn't happen often where I forget movies so it must of been bad
