"i will make you eat a plate of human shit"
Any movie where The Rock dies within the first 10 minutes is an A+ in my book
I love this film. This is by far my favorite Cronenberg film and probably somewhere in my top 20 films
Honestly, I didn't really get it the first time either but it really haunted me and stuck with me, which led me to watch it again, and again, and then it dawned on me just how brilliant it was
hours later and i'm still thinking of the film and associating a lot with the thoughts and emotions i had when watching it. few films can do that so well.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
4/5
Watching Stagecoach last night really put me in a Western mood, so I gave this a watch. If it wasn't for Paul Newman and Robert Redford as Butch and Sundance, the movie would be no where near as good as it is. They're a brilliant duo, and they made the movie enjoyable. If it were anybody else, this movie would have fallen flat.

I'll probably watch The Sting next.
i watched the show today and it was bad
it was the executioner thign on fx with the sutter kurt guy and it was awful
Sleepy Hollow
4/5
Couldn't find The Sting on Netflix, but I found Sleepy Hollow instead. Haven't seen it in years, and I'd say this is one of Tim Burton's best movies, if not the best. I haven't seen Ed Wood yet, so I can't be sure. His style certainly fits the story, and the grim atmosphere is great. If you want a good movie for Halloween, seriously, check this one out.
Everest
I was surprised by this movie. I was expecting a melodramatic story with wacky 3D effects, but actually it turned out to be truly heartbreaking at times and genuinely tense. Plus the 3D wasn't overdone, it added quite a bit to the experience. Overall it was a very decent movie that's worth seeing.
Hitman: Agent 47
6/10
He talks too much. Also too much drama. Also not enough brutal stealth-kills.
Finally got around to watching Birdman and Foxcatcher.
Birdman - 9/10
This movie is the bee's knees, fucking hell. I love it, I wasn't expecting this to really be this good. What keeps niggling at me in the back of my head though are two things, the subtitle and the ending. I can't connect the former to what happens in the film and the latter is just confusing. Though the whole[sp]'he died on stage and the hospital is a dream' thing[/sp]sounds plausible enough.
Foxcatcher - 8/10
Steve Carell, you do many things. You make me giggle, you make me cringe at your awkwardness, you make me laugh until I sound like a seal and can't breathe. What you aren't supposed to do is be this unnerving. I don't know why but his performance makes me feel uneasy for some reason. And Tatum can act surprisingly well too, especially his breakdown scene in the hotel is really well done. My only gripe with this movie is that it drags. It's a 2-hour movie but the lack of dialogue in a lot of scenes makes it feel so much longer.

Unless your a masochist
Loved Sicario a lot. Good stuff
Black Mass
It wasn't as impressive as I had hoped. I did like how they balanced the movie between Whitey and the FBI agent fairly well, but it was a movie that felt like nothing actually happened.
[sp]All the murders shown on screen were mostly revenge murders for rats that talked to the police about other crimes - which are never shown on screen. They keep talking about how Whitey was involved a billion different crimes, but they never SHOW them, only just him murdering a few people. 90% of the film is just talking about him doing things, not him actually doing it.[/sp]
And then it had the most anti-climatic ending I've seen in a long time. It just sorta...ended. Not totally unexpectedly but with an ending that gave you the sense of, "Oh...that's it? Alright then..."
They should have shown [sp]more into that prosecutor making a case to bring down Whitey's empire, instead of a few choice dialogue moments then suddenly everyone is arrested. That was really disappointing.[/sp]
Johnny Depp was definitely a shining light in the film. Benedict Cucumberbatch was essentially a background character, I don't know why the gave such a minor role to such a big name actor.
Overall, I'd give it a 6/10, though I'll probably not waste time watching it again. It's definitely a "watch once and forget about it" movie.
Casino (Martin Scorsese, 1995)
9/10
It was better than Goodfellas, less repetitive. Otherwise, it's about the same as Goodfellas. Don't watch those two films in a row, that would be a terrible experience.
i disagree, they make a great double feature.
Life aquatic with Steve Zissou
I don't need to tell you guys, but this movie is a masterpiece. While Wes Anderson's movies are normally kinda campy and don't take themselves seriously, the movie is really about a guy learning to let go of a lot of things: his dead career, his deceased best friend, his quest for revenge, his wife who he doesn't love anymore, and ultimately his youth. He hits on women, resents his son who "takes" the reporter from him, and goes on this stupid expeditions for a TV show nobody watches anymore.
I just really, really like this movie
Starship Troopers 2. The second one is horrible, and I just couldn't stand it at all.
Finally got around to seeing Mad Max.
Really excellent all around. Only gripe is the fact that the drum/guitar truck was tragically underused.
In Bruges (2008)
Watched this because a friend recommended it and because it's pretty short in comparison to a lot of movies. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Comedy dramas don't work well a lot of the time (for me), but this was an exception. It was able to convey tension and emotion well throughout the film while still maintaining constant humor. Very good acting and relatable characters.
Easy 8/10 for me.
Anyone else have thoughts on this? Should I check out more from this director?
yes
seven psychopaths and i forget the name of the other film he does
That Life Aquatic review got me thinking...what's everyone's favorite Wes Anderson movie?
I'm a big Royal Tenenbaums guy
For me it's a tie between Darjeeling Limited and Fantastic Mr Fox.
Moonrise Kingdom
It's definitely The Life Aquatic for me.
