I dunno. I don't think the messages of Fahrenheit or 1984 or BNW need any of that "understandability" for young adults. I recently read the giver because Jack recommended it on Previously Recorded and I never felt like it's written specifically for younger audiences. The hero is an 11 year old.

What's worse is that I've heard the last act of the film is an action sequence. I haven't read the book in years but I swear the book was almost entirely "Baby's First Orwell Story."
the director's cut for terminator 2 is the way to go imo. (same with aliens)
the extra time in the director's cut are all spread throughout the movie evenly. it's not just 20 minutes that got dumped into the middle of the film. there're some really good scenes in the director's cut that gets lost in the theatrical version such as the entire bit where john talks sarah out of destroying arnold's chip. also this

i don't think the extra scenes really bring down the movie in any major way.
every jim cameron film that has a director's cut is usually the superior version of the film
not only does it apply to t2 and aliens, but also the abyss (which i still don't really care for) and avatar.
Watched Ant Man, that was great! 8/10 much better than the other Avenger movies to me, partly because it's so clever and has clever jokes.
Also the doll he gives to his daughter is TOTALLY Sloth from the Goonies, in the German synchro they even used the same voiceactor for him.

Oh WOW, that's really upsetting. I just remember the book having a very ambiguous ending
I thought it's established that he freezes to death, where else would the sleigh come from?

Bigger Than Life
5/5
A riveting thriller from the 50s. It's a little ridiculous looking at it today, but even so, its tense and emotional. The cinematography is exceptional. It kind of reminded me of David Cronenberg's The Fly, but without the body horror.
Prisoners
Why did it take me so long to watch this, it was fantastic. I was a little daunted by the two and a half hour run time but if anything it crammed in a bit too much, so much unfolded in the last half hour it made my head spin a bit.
Chronicle - 9/10
So much better than I thought it would be and I went in expecting a decent movie, probably the best found footage movie I've ever seen. I heard they might make a sequel, which I strongly disagree with. Some movies just don't need one.

if they do, it certainly won't be directed by josh trank.
Blow Out - 6/10
Ehhhhhhhhhhhh..this was my first De Palma and I'm not super convinced. Solid plot, but way too far-fetched for me to believe in it too much and a villain without any real motive. I did like John Travolta in this, though, and I normally don't

Seen it already, loved it too.

I went out of my way to watch the 3-hour version of Avatar and thinking it was a 6/10. I can't imagine how much more terrible the theatrical version is.
Happiness
This is one of the most amazing movies I have ever seen. I don't think I will ever see a movie more amazing than this as long as I live.

I have never seen the lengthier version, but seeing it in theaters was mostly a visual experience. At the time there were no 3D movies that pulled it off so well and it truly for me brought 3D away from being just a gimmicky thing. The actual movie itself was just okayish, but the visuals in the theater were absolutely great.

from what i've heard it was a completely different movie until the producers started butchering it

Pretty sure he's talking about the Todd Solondz one.
Which, I might add, is really fucking amazing
Not Le Bonheur?

the extended edition just feels better, like you could tell there were scenes cut out of the theatrical that should have been there for completion's sake.
basically like it was already said, the movie was mainly a visual experience and nothing else, it's just pocahontas in space.

I haven't seen that many 3d movies but when I went to see Avatar in 3D I was not only underwhelmed by it but also taken aback by how it messed up shots with either shallow or racking focus.
Tomorrowland
6/10 What a mess.
Who thought that prologue was a good thing? When the kid flies around I felt like I was watching Spy Kids or something, ugh.
And then after you're infused with wonder and inspiration and the film seems to be some awesome futuristic adventure it all crashes down on being a "doomsday's coming" and "gotta beat the bad guy" standard flick. Disapointing.
And the main character(assuming the girls is the main character which I am not too sure of) didn't even do that much except for one sentence changing the complete game.
[sp]tower=transmitter[/sp]
Wich would be cool if the idea wouldn't come out of completely thin air. Nothing hinted at that.
Apart from that she's "blonde girl with silly looking hat that's super important to her" but later she just shrugs it off.
The movie dwells in cool effect and grandiose scenes but doesn't even bother to explain the backgrounds of the cool shit it shows. Why did Tomorrowland chage like that? Why is Dr. House the ultimate dictator? I thought it's an utopian paradise but I guess it's ruled by Dictator Hugh Laurie?
What a mess.

Great job on the acting by Raffey Cassidy though, good performances but that may also be due to the fact that she's cute as a button, I don't know.
Also I like some parts of the scripts, the little banter inbetween the characters that you wouldn't expect in most movies. There it shows a tiny tiny bit of character besides "look at our special effects".

turbo kid
it's great. lots of fun, enjoyable on pretty much every level. it's the kind of movie i almost feel bad for complaining about (but i'm going to do it anyway)
i kinda wonder what it would look like with some sort of 80s camera filter. it absolutely nails the 80s style in everything it does- story, characters, aesthetic, action, so the hi def visuals are a bit of a weird mix. that filter was definitely overdone in kung fury which really cheapened the look of it though, so who knows if it'd improve anything
the only real problem though, which i'm only going to spoiler tag because of how small the cast of characters is, is [sp]how inconsequential death is.[/sp] maybe that's just another nod to cheesy 80s movies that i missed, but [sp]surely i wasn't the only one thinking "you just saved apple by duct taping her head to a robot body, why can't you do it again"[/sp]

you know i wonder
did trank even like go to film school or anything? if you really look into cameron's and spielberg's pasts, their whole lives have basically revolved around the art of film, plus jews and things like that.
Film school is for nerds.
So I found this neat series on Netflix about the history of film, it's pretty interesting; thought you guys might find it interesting as well.
It's called The Story of Film: An Odyssey.
Escape from L.A. - Nowhere near as good as Escape from New York, but still a fun movie to watch for just a fun time even if it is heavily flawed and the special effects have aged badly.
[editline]26th September 2015[/editline]
Also really all the good parts just came from paying homage to the previous film. It really does not stand on its own.
Alien
5/5
I still get knots in my stomach watching this, particularly [sp]when the alien kills Parker and Lambert up until the ship explodes.[/sp] No matter how many times I've seen this, it has lost none of its potency.
