It is weird how long it has been now that DVDs have been standard instead of VHS.
It's weird how Blu-Rays haven't eclipsed DVDs yet. Movies started being released only on DVD and not VHS by 2005. Blu-Ray had defeated HD-DVD by 2008, but movies are still sold on DVD or in combo packs, and the libraries near me (I'm by two different counties) don't even carry Blu-Rays.
I guess the issue is that the average consumer doesn't care about or notice the increase in quality. In any event, it's not even close to the relative quality increase from VHS to DVD.

The jump in quality is about the same depending on the transfer. Check it out.
I buy everything I get in blu-ray format if it's available. Anyways I just got Naked Lunch the other day after binging on Cronenberg movies, I need to get around to watching it already.
Well it's not just video quality, DVDs introduced chapter selection, instant rewinding, immediate pausing and resuming of video and audio, freeze-frames without noise, and so forth.
sicario
it was sick

dvd is slowly moving to digital though, neither cap2 nor gotg have the bluray/dvd combo packs.

Well, the increase in quality from VHS (and even Betamax and Laserdisc) to DVD was quite significant. What does Blu-Ray have over DVD besides looking a bit better?
Looks better, sounds better, and holds way more data.
Looks better, sounds better, and holds way more data.
The latter is the only one that really makes an impact.
The other two really don't have so much of an improvement that DVDs are "clearly" inferior.
You have to bear in mind with this whole DVD to Blu-ray transition is that this time some stuff won't make it across, stuff like BBC shows which were shot on Video tape or plain old digital standard definition and as a result won't ever be found on anything but DVD.
its also really expensive
its also really expensive
i haven't paid over $30 for a bluray
even things like the blade runner 30th anniversary or alien anthology i got relatively cheap
its also really expensive
It was expensive at launch sure. Nowadays it costs pretty much the same as a DVD.
Last movie I watched was Napoleon Dynamite, and I love that movie. One of my favorites. If you haven't already, what are you doing with your life?
9/10
It was expensive at launch sure. Nowadays it costs pretty much the same as a DVD.
At least places around where I live, Bluray is consistently $5 to $10 more expensive than the DVD versions.
On top of that, as they put more movies into Bluray, because they're "new", they are often marked higher as a new item than marked down to the DVD version that has been out for a while.
At retail yeah they're more expensive but at pawn shops they're around $5-7
At retail yeah they're more expensive but at pawn shops they're around $5-7
You can find some good deals online too, that's where I get most of my movies.

I dunno, I can go to my local supermarket and pick up some old Blu-Rays for the same price as an older DVD.

Yeah same here. Hell my local Dollar Store had Wall-E and Up for $8. Good deal
Halloween Resurrection - 2/10
It's awful, don't watch it.
Yeah, I usually write a bit more than this but fuck it. If the movie's not gonna put in a shred of effort, neither am I. The only reason it's a 2 and not a 1 is because Busta Rhymes seems quite aware of how awful the movie he's in is and livens things up a bit.
Sicario - 8.5/10
Fuck man, what a bleak movie. My only real issue with the movie is Emily Blunt's character was a bit underdeveloped.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - 5/10
M E D I O C R E
gonna sound like a broken record here but yeah it's not very good
- Right out of the gate Ultron was underwhelming, he goes from zero to "kill all humans" so fast there's no buildup or threat. I watched (this is an odd comparison) the "Lawnmower Dog" episode of Rick & Morty the other day, and that works because there's a build in Snuffle's intelligence, power, and malevolence that makes it more thrilling and interesting. Even though Ultron first shows up in a shitty, sparking, leaking, broken body there's no build and it falls flat as an attempt to be scary. Honestly I never really liked any of main Ultron's designs, although I did like the way the drones looked.
- Not everyone should quip, dammit
- This movie had the horrible misfortune of coming out after X-Men: Days of Future Past, which had a Quicksilver that makes this slav look like a chump
and here come the questions:
- Why is Tony still Iron Man-ing if he blew up his suits and threw out his arc reactor?
- Why is Rhodey back to War Machine instead of Iron Patriot?
- Why is Banner afraid to let the Hulk out under any circumstances when he seemed to have that all dealt with in the first Avengers movie?
- Why did Nick Fury fake his own death and go underground if he was going to be right back in charge of SHIELD?
- How is SHIELD still around at all, not to mention having enough resources to field a helicarrier?
- Why is the mind gem yellow?
and most importantly:
- Where the heck did all the Ultrons come from? We see Ultron lying around in the castle at the very beginning - who built them? Was it like an extremely long con by Strucker? "I'll plant the idea to make an AI in Tony Stark's head, then when he does the AI will immediately become evil and go online and upload itself into this broad-shouldered robot body I have lying around here"
A lot of stuff is explained in Agents of Shield and there was a scene of him making more robots of himself. Also just because Tony Stark blew up all of his suits doesn't mean he can't build another which he obviously did with a new power source.

You shouldn't have to watch a terrible spinoff TV show to have shit explained to you that should've been explained in a movie.
- Why is Tony still Iron Man-ing if he blew up his suits and threw out his arc reactor?
Because Tony Stark is Ironman, not the suits. That was the "moral of the story" for Ironman 3.
- Why is Rhodey back to War Machine instead of Iron Patriot?
Never noticed this until you pointed it out, though it's probably due to just the writers not caring.
- Why is Banner afraid to let the Hulk out under any circumstances when he seemed to have that all dealt with in the first Avengers movie?
Avengers 1 dealt with an alien invasion which threatened all of Earth, Ultron is a "human" creation, so maybe Banner thought it wasn't as justified. And possibly all the trauma from continuous missions against HYDRA could have left him a bit shell-shocked.
- Why did Nick Fury fake his own death and go underground if he was going to be right back in charge of SHIELD?
Because Whedon is a dumbass who can't coordinate a story with another director's film (Winter Soldier) to make a real sequel.
- How is SHIELD still around at all, not to mention having enough resources to field a helicarrier?
See above answer. As for the Helicarrier, Nick Fury always has something up his sleeve.
- Why is the mind gem yellow?
Because the crystal for the Vision's forehead is yellow and because that's being turned into the mind gem, it had to match what the Vision looked like.
and most importantly:

Strucker and HYDRA were playing the long game with multiple technological experiments. They probably realized what the mind gem was and attempted to make multiple AIs for each of the robots, under HYDRA command but where thwarted when the castle went under siege.
He had no intention of planting an idea in anyone's head, let alone Ironman - how would he have reaped the rewards of such plan, anyway?
- Why is Tony still Iron Man-ing if he blew up his suits and threw out his arc reactor?
i think IM3 was less about "i'll never be iron man again" and more about tony keeping the iron man and tony stark personas separated, and realizing that the only reason he kept the arc reactor was because he was trying to be more iron man than tony, or some shit like that
- Why is Rhodey back to War Machine instead of Iron Patriot?
maybe using a suit that was only ever used by terrorists to kidnap the president is bad PR
- Why is Banner afraid to let the Hulk out under any circumstances when he seemed to have that all dealt with in the first Avengers movie?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
yes
Kingsmen
4 out of 5
Went in expecting it to be some shity spy movie left thinking holy shit that was pretty dam good. I loved how it tired to take somethings from the bond movies and modernize it but not to the level of ruining it. One big thing that I didn't like was that it felt near the end that it was moving to fast which is understandable for its time limit and the one female chick in the movie I can't remember her name her whole character is just meh compared to everyone else but luckily they do not focus on her that much at all. Would recommend to anyone that is looking for a just a good movie to watch.
OH AND IT HAS BLOOD IN IT LIKE HOLY SHIT WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW BLOOD IN A MOVIE!
Straight Outta Compton - 7/10
my big complaint is that a lot of the police harassment stuff felt a little forced. it kinda diverged from the rest of the movie, it was at its best when it stuck with NWA breaking up and all the studio conflicts and focusing on the rappers themselves. obviously you can't have a movie about NWA without police brutality but it just felt very mulled over or tacked on. eazy e's actor was reallly good, the scene where he [sp]was by himself at night looking at the billboards before he died was actually pretty heartbreaking[/sp]
also [sp]snoop dogg[/sp] had the best entrance lmao

Yeah just saw it today, absolutely loved it.
Weirdest was when I went to lookup who wrote it.
It was written by the dude who played the meathead cop in the first few seasons of Sons of Anarchy, and it's his first screenplay.
