I mean... I pretended I enjoyed Transformers 2 and I spent money on it, it's not that hard. :]
Going to watch The Martian tomorrow with my dad. I'm a fan of Ridley Scott, Interstellar and science-fiction (and so is he), so nothing can go wrong, right?

Don't go in expecting Interstellar, go in expecting a really great orange baby of Gravity and Castaway.

I usually do that too but if a movie I wanted to see was showing and all of my friends were unavailable I wouldn't have a problem going by myself.
I've not seen a lot of movies I've really wanted to see simply because no one ever was available to go with me.
I've never seen anyone go to the movies alone and I would feel very awkward all by myself.
if i want to see a movie that nobody wants, i simply torrent it and watch it by myself at home
if somebody else is interested in, i go to the cinema with them (obviously if it's still in theaters)
it's simple

So bad that it very nearly reaches the point of being amazing, but falls just short and is instead just really really really bad
0/10

it sucks
especially when you go see a movie you really want to see and you're literally the only person there by yourself
speaking of that, today is 2 years since i bought pacific rim
imagine being so insecure you dont even want strangers to see you alone
it might not be that, i would honestly feel pretty lonely
been to the movies a few times by myself and it blows. really just isnt the same experience

tbh it all depends on the genre
Going to the movies by yourself is fine. I've seen Wolf of Wall Street, Godzilla, Gone Girl, and probably some others that I've forgotten on my own, and everything was fine.

The way I think about it, even if there are people there that see you watching alone, it's not like they're gonna pay you any mind or even remember there was another person there after the movie's done. Life isn't really an 80's high school movie where somewhere goes over to you and is all like "lol nurd wat are u doing watching a movie by urself." I get to work from home a lot so I find that I have the time to catch a lot of movies in the morning when they're A) Cheaper and B) Not filled with annoying teenagers, although old people can be annoying sometimes as well.
On a slightly tangential note, there was some old guy in the audience when I went to see Sicario who I largely suspect was one of those "Fuck Yea Amurica!" types because he kept chuckling whenever a Mexican guy bit the dust and laughed at probably everything Josh Brolin said. He was noticeably silent at the end of the movie though so maybe he learned something from it. Hopefully anyway.
But at the same time, the sort of movie I'm watching determines whether or not I'll see it with friends. A big event movie like a Marvel movie, Star Wars, or Godzilla then yea I'm going to invite people along and I'm going to try catching it at peak hours so I can cheer or laugh along with everyone else in the audience. But it's a little hard to convince friends to go see a movie about an Iranian taxi driver or a documentary on the Indonesian anti-communist killings of the 1950's-60's at 10 in the morning, so I'll usually see those by myself.
I have never been to the theater alone, but now I want to. I don't see why it would be unnerving at all. Actually, it seems like it would be quite nice without any distraction.

except for when you get your ticket checked right after a couple and the ticket guy looks at you for being there by yourself
seriously, fuck you ticket dude.
When I went to see Pacific Rim, my friends just kinda ruined the experience because they didn't like it and wouldn't shut up through the whole thing. It's sometimes nicer to go alone.
the thing is here that i was going with my friend who also wanted to see Sicario, the issue is that he is younger than 17 while im older and he doesnt want to "sneak" into an r rated movie so to speak
i know i would enjoy the experience more with him which is why im kinda leaning away from the idea of going alone

buy a ticket for a movie that he can see
go into the theater that's playing sicario
you can't lose

that is basically what i told him we should do but hes got crazy strict parents and refuses to mess around in any form, so i wont try to push him to do something like that
I only really see films alone if everyone's being lazy and don't want to bother leaving the house. Did it with Straight Outta Compton and it was great.

Doesn't rated R just mean that under 17 can go see it while there's adult supervision? NC-17 is the one where they would tell him to go gtfo. It's not like Sicario is gonna make him wanna do drugs.

For some reason, where we live, you have to have a parent/guardian with you if you aren't 17, not just someone over 17. It's stupid.
Aw shit, I was gonna watch Sicario again but they're not airing it anymore. How's The Martian?
I usually end up watching films alone. Finding people who want to go out on Monday nights is hard.
lol tell ur friend sneaking into movies is part of the fun. the last time i saw a movie alone i was 15-16 and i was trying to sneak into end of watch. it was one of those small theators where it was basically one big room with 4 doors out in the open with all the ticket people in full view. realized i was gonna have to pull some serious splinter cell stealth moves and ended up catching the movie 20 minutes in. glad i saw it, was a nice experience coming back alone thinking about the movie. just needs the right tone. also i think people are less worried about strangers seeing them alone and more worried about people they might know seeing them alone
I always like it when my dad accompanies me to movies. Though I do go to movies by myself if he's not interested (Furious 7 being a case).
Me seeing a movie in a theater is usually a rare, spur of the moment deal for me. So I usually go alone.
