The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Exploitation film classic. As a massive horror fan, I've somehow never seen this before right now. At a flat 90 minutes, it's in and out real quick, but it hits hard. The atmosphere and the set design is just brilliant, gives off this disgusting, awful aura that really sets the movie apart from others. For being a 70s grindhouse movie, it has some surprisingly beautiful shots. It also has very little on-screen blood, but the violence is still some of the most brutal I've seen. Each character of the family is fun and interesting. It's a shame that it spawned so many awful sequels. Coming off of this, what are some other exploitation films you guys recommend? Of course there's stuff like Last House On The Left, I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust, etc.
Coming off of this, what are some other exploitation films you guys recommend? Of course there's stuff like Last House On The Left, I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust, etc.
I Saw The Devil
Straight Outta Compton There are a couple of cheesy bits in this film, but they were totally necessary for story progression. It definitely felt rushed in some parts and drawn-out too much in others. Aside from those criticisms, this is a pretty great film with a lot of heart. I just wish the stories of MC Ren and DJ Yella were fleshed out more because I don't know shit about them. Overall, I'd give this movie an 8/10.
I Saw The Devil
I watched that a couple weeks ago, really liked it.
Yeah, I feel like the comparisons to Philip Glass' Koyaanisqatsi score were well deserved
Damn, you're right. I had never made the relation. Also watched Housebound (Gerard Johnstone, 2014). It's very decent, well directed and funny when you expect it least. Unfortunately, it suffers from poor pacing/rhythm and the humourous and horror scenes are separated by sequences that feel like they just make the film go in circles. Still a good flick. The main actress is great in her role. 7.5/10
Just finished Oldboy (original Korean version, not the stupid remake) 9/10 Ending was weird as fuck though
Locke - Amazing how gripping a man in car for 90 mins can be 8.5/10
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation It was great. Shallow, and strange in many parts, but not obscene. Were there two directors to this movie that got in a big fight and stopped talking to each other? Because the first half of the movie is almost completely different in tone and pacing from the second half. Also, they didn't let Alec Baldwin do anything.

The Man From UNCLE - 6/10 Great style, great soundtrack, great characterization, good humor, standard plot, weak villain, boring action, a lot of lost potential. I hope that setup for a sequel comes along because I really liked the characters, but they weren't together enough and not given enough things to do so they could have more banter. I don't think this is going to be that successful though, sadly, and even though it's not that good, I think a sequel would really work for it.

They should've involved him as a liaison between the agencies or something, that way Jared Harris wouldn't go to waste too. Solo and Kuryakin are not even agents of U.N.C.L.E. (that's the name the movie released with over here) until the final two minutes, that's just embarassing.[/sp]

He's stifling his style and creativity to please the studio and the audience better. He'll never top Snatch.
The Man From UNCLE 8/10 This movie was a lot better than I thought it would be. It wasn't as action packed as mission impossible but I thought that was a good thing since this is a completely different kind of movie. For the kind of movie that it is, I however would have liked more wittiness and intelligent shenanigans, since those parts were the best. Hoping for a sequel

A Boy and His Dog - Honestly I loved the film. It was very "wacky" in many ways, but at the same time felt like what the post-apocalypse would seem to a sexually frustrated teenage boy. Really amazing how you can see influence from this film in later post-apocalyptic works like the Mad Max films and Fallout games.
Just finished watching "The Comedy" with Tim Heidecker. Easily one of the strangest movies I've ever seen. It's funny, but at the same time, it's really painful to watch. I really liked it, but the ending was kind of abrupt. I would definitely recommend it though. Definitely a change in pace from Tim and Eric.
I didn't like it and I say it as someone who's a huge fan of Tim and Eric, I just never really placed why it was even made in the first place

Still a good film and had a bit of Guy Ritchie-edge, but lost a lot of its tongue-in-cheek humor compared to his former british crime films.
I didn't like it and I say it as someone who's a huge fan of Tim and Eric, I just never really placed why it was even made in the first place
I think the main reason I liked it, is because I knew someone just like that a while ago. He was hilarious, but just like Tim, he became more and more of a trainwreck every day. I don't even know where he is now. Probably dead.
The Running Man - If you go into it expecting a serious scifi movie with a moral lesson and deep themes you'd be disappointing, but as a cheesy action movie it is fun. Still could've been better though. Some of Arnold's lines felt very forced and imo. After reading a quick plot synopses on the original book it was based on, it's really interesting thinking what the film could've been. Nevertheless I still had fun watching wrestlers and body builders fighting each other and shit in a dystopian future.
was'nt Blade Runner the only 80's serious sci - fi flim>

I'm pretty interested in Rick Alverson's next movie, Entertainment.
Slow West - it's very good if you like unconventional westerns. Aesthetics and motifs reminded me of Wes Anderson. Stellar job from Fassbender and Mendelsohn, pretty fucking solid overall.
Watched Heat again last night. Terrific film, 9/10. I forgot how neatly wrapped up everything gets, terrific writing for all the characters, great performances, drank everytime someone said "The Heat". Damn that street shootout is good.
The best heist movie there is. [sp]If you disagree, give title of your choice pls.[/sp]
The best heist movie there is. Recommendations for great Heist films anyone?
