I really do need to watch more, it's such a great genre of film with a lot of room for interpretation, stuff like Inception is a Heist film even.
Recommendations for great Heist films anyone?
ocean's 11 (the one with george clooney and brad pitt)

never watched the one with the rat pack
dog day afternoon is best :]

It has probably the most of the actual heist, but in its essence it's anything but a heist film.
Straight Outta Compton
There are a couple of cheesy bits in this film, but they were totally necessary for story progression. It definitely felt rushed in some parts and drawn-out too much in others. Aside from those criticisms, this is a pretty great film with a lot of heart. I just wish the stories of MC Ren and DJ Yella were fleshed out more because I don't know shit about them.
Overall, I'd give this movie an 8/10.
i really want to see Straight outta compton but it doesnt run in cinemas in my country

It's a lot like Heat on many levels.
was'nt Blade Runner the only 80's serious sci - fi flim>
I'd say Aliens was pretty serious along with The Terminator.
Rosewater
7.5 I liked it overall
I'd say Aliens was pretty serious along with The Terminator.
The Terminator was kinda goofy. Aliens was solid.
The Terminator was kinda goofy. Aliens was solid.
I'd say the first one was mostly serious.
p sure there are plenty of srs sci fi from the 80s but v likely they're foreign obscure ones.
as far as large budget srs sci fi goes, I think only Blade Runner hit the spot. That atmosphere is absolutely incredible and the batman CEO dutch robot guy is superb.
Training Day
8/10
Fantastic story, god-awful miserable bastard of a villain, great characters. Good twist on the buddy cop formula.
the man from uncle - 7/10
typical guy ritchie flick, nice filming techniques really gave it that 60s feel but ultimately nothing to ride home about.
but ultimately nothing to ride home about.
"Movie was OK, guess I'll never return home again."
Tangerines: 8/10
A beautifully packaged message about the absurdities of war, one that refuses to resort to outright depiction of the horrors of war, instead illustrating its impact on the livelihoods of everyday people who find themselves unwillingly thrust into it.
Deep Rising - 7/10
A good popcorn movie is probably the best way to describe it. The CG has aged quite poorly at times (then again, what late 90s CG-heavy movie has?) and Finnigan feels like Joss Whedon wrote him at times but the action keeps coming and it's all done just well enough to keep your attention.

It's deeply unsatisfying compared to the modern remake.
There's a lot of yakkity yak, not a lot happens, and in the end they kinda are forced to go the "crime doesn't pay" route.

the original and remake trilogy are very different, they can't really be compared.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Exploitation film classic. As a massive horror fan, I've somehow never seen this before right now. At a flat 90 minutes, it's in and out real quick, but it hits hard. The atmosphere and the set design is just brilliant, gives off this disgusting, awful aura that really sets the movie apart from others. For being a 70s grindhouse movie, it has some surprisingly beautiful shots. It also has very little on-screen blood, but the violence is still some of the most brutal I've seen. Each character of the family is fun and interesting. It's a shame that it spawned so many awful sequels.
Coming off of this, what are some other exploitation films you guys recommend? Of course there's stuff like Last House On The Left, I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust, etc.
Ms 45 1981 directed by Abel Ferrara
He went on to direct some higher budget, interesting movies but this one is exploitation. It's a riff on Death Wish but it also has some great visuals.
I watched the first 10 minutes of Divergent then got bored and played games on my PC.
3/10 - would've been great if it wasn't for the 10 minutes of Divergent.
(Don't watch Divergent, it's boring and uninspired, trying to cash in on the Hunger Games craze just like the Maze Runner was)
[editline]16th August 2015[/editline]
Seriously, the movie is pretty much entirely exposition, for a very dull world.
Yeah divergent was awful, almost hilarious bad

I hate how many times I have seen advertisements for that godawful movie on tv. I don't see how anyone could enjoy it.

And it's a shitty fucking book too
Is Insurgent the sequel? On my way to the cinema I have to go past the bookstore and they have this fuckhuge advert for the Insurgent book. It looks stupid.
I try my best not to watch shitty teen fiction movies
I told my cousin that I didn't like Divergent. She told me what happens to the main character at the end of the trilogy.
I don't like her, but I also don't like what happens to the MC.
What happens, out of curiosity?
Young adult stuff can sometimes be good though; The Hunger Games is decent and I'm watching The 100 right now which is surprisingly not as bad as it sounded.

The Hunger Games moves bored me too, they were just ages and ages of nothingness and bland characters. I read the books before the movies were announced and they were pretty great though.

Maybe it's because I've only seen the first movie but if it's any indication for the rest, I'm kind of astounded that a series starring 2 pieces of cardboard got this popular.

I read the books as teenagers. They aren't really supposed to teach morals or explore human emotions and nature. They're really just made for teens to read and nothing more than that.
dystopian fiction is just an in-thing for teenage readers nowadays
