there was a twist tho
Which one? [sp]The one called "Hmm, this film is called 'SPECTRE' and there's this mysterious organization responsible for terrorist attacks which coincidentally and vaguely reminds me about organization from previous entries in the series responsible for terrorist attacks which leader was a fearful supremacist with a fondness of drama, oh and look, there's this character played by Christoph Waltz, known for playing ruthless villain, that plays completely different character with just the same set of qualities"[/sp] or [sp]This actor that received international acclaim for playing an extremely memorable villain appears on the screen as a new important character with utilitarian views sided with main characters and is being told to play with the exact same mannerisms that distinguished his previous villain from others. He seems so genuine.[/sp]
Skyfall did that by accident much better, by surprising everyone and making Ralph Fiennes a good guy for a change.
Mr.Nobody
Confusing at times and maybe it tries a bit too hard, but this is one fantastic movie. Also Jared Leto is just a great actor
8.5/10 go watch it some time
there was a twist tho
Bollocks there was. The only twist on my expectations was how badly they pulled off [sp]Well this relatively believable name, Franz Oberhauser is dull I guess. I'm now Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Yeah, that works.[/sp] Look, I have a white cat!
the twist im referring to u plums is when batista [sp]broke that guy's neck[/sp].
That was top class.

I guess that did twist.
No offense but I honestly can't think of a film series I care about less than James Bond
the real twist is that bond [sp]fell in love with and off-the-bat committed to protecting the daughter of someone who was partly responsible for vespers betrayal/death[/sp]
I personally liked the contrivance that the man he was so keen to meet [sp]killed his first love, Eva Green, and he's suddenly all ready to do a pinky-promise-no-take-backsies promise with this guy to get the information that a dead M told him to get[/sp].
Talk about bollocks.
No offense but I honestly can't think of a film series I care about less than James Bond
Hunger Games for me, I was yawning throughout that. It really seemed to think it was a cultural phenomena and not a flash in the pan that produced entertaining but empty movies.

I think it's an interesting series because it's got such a reputation, and most of all a unique longevity.
When a new 007 film comes out, everyone expects it to match the highest standards the series has established. And those are pretty damn high. The audience, as well as the people who make the films, could only compare the James Bond films to themselves.
Everyone knows those films are fantastic action movies, but the people really want to know how it measures up to the best Bond films. Because that's how good the series is, you can't just compare it to your average action film or something. They're more than that. In my opinion anyway.
Sicario 9/10
Damn, just fuckin damn. Takes you along for a ride you didn't really want to go on
my favorite part is the [sp]tunnel raid[/sp]
you know exactly what is going down and it barely even [sp]shows anything, it's all just from her perspective. so intense[/sp]
Circle
One of those movies that is purely a critique of society at large and is purely, 100% just dialogue. It's just about impossible to know who survives at the end due to people speaking up through out the movie (and in a sense "enter" the scene).
Was interesting to pass some time and while they touch on a number of issues, they don't quite delve deep into anything particular.
5/10 - average movie

Hunger Games for me, I was yawning throughout that. It really seemed to think it was a cultural phenomena and not a flash in the pan that produced entertaining but empty movies.
Hunger Games is like Harry Potter to me, in that it's an interesting premise but the story itself is very flat and cliched, and it makes for average popcorn flicks aimed at teenagers
However unlike Harry Potter, Hunger Games also spawned a billion imitators that are very clearly copying it
Spectre: I like that it felt a bit more akin to some of the classic Bond films. Rather enjoyed it, although the theme didn't really work as a Bond theme.
I havent seen spectre yet but that theme is garbage
the dude who performed that was bragging that it only took 20 minutes to put together. Yeah, no shit.
the real twist is that bond [sp]fell in love with and off-the-bat committed to protecting the daughter of someone who was partly responsible for vespers betrayal/death[/sp]
[sp]Bitch's gotta die, next Bond is going to be "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" remade by Christopher Nolan starring Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway[/sp]

that's because harry potter was an imitator

I want to know what he spent the other nineteen minutes doing
Spectre
Such an average bond flick. As usual cinematography, stunts and co. are great, no real complaints about any of that. It's the story that just isn't good. It's as formulaic and cliche' as can be. Christoph Waltz: criminally underused, and although he's a great actor he plays the usual guy he does in every movie: evil smart dude who says nasty shit while talking casually, with instances of intense seriousness.
I like the concept of the spectre organization, the only (huge) problem is that [sp] it doesn't really tie into the other films. Waltz just mentions that he was behind everything, while next to nothing (at least none that I noticed) suggests this in any of the past films, and he brings forward no evidence at all. He just makes a bold statement without any explanation and that's it.[/sp]
what else can I add....oh, Batista was a pretty good thug. Monica Bellucci had 5 screen time, so she's not really worth mentioning.
at the end of the day, it's an average bond with your usual explosions, casual sex, martinis, and cliches (lots). No more, no less.

the intro sequence and fight scene is great though, most probably the best part of the movie.
oh, and the song + title sequence was probably the best of the craig movies. Maybe not the song, but I loved the tentacles and ink stuff, some nice effects there.
overall 6.5/10 I guess
Chernobyl Diaries:
Kinda shit? It was reeeeeeaaaaally hard to care even one bit about the main characters. Some of the vibes I could dig and ultimately I enjoyed it a bit, but the idea and plot could've been so much more than what was presented in this movie. Shame though.
5/10

Like, they could've made the movie where not much actually happens, but the ever growing presence of whatever is out there could carry the movie. Maybe a bit like Blair Witch or something.
So, the last two movies I saw in theaters were Sicario and The Martian
Sicario
5/5
Absolutely brilliant. Easily the best and most intense movie I've seen all year. Benecio Del Toro disappeared into the role.
The Martian
4/5
I didn't find it that underwhelming. The big feeling I got from the movie was that Ridley Scott was playing it safe, which isn't a bad thing. I get why some of the events were cut [sp]like the bulk of the journey through the crater[/sp] but again, not a bad thing. In fact, I didn't even realize it until someone brought it up to me.
Overall, it was a solid movie.
Kill Your Friends
it wasn't nearly as bad as the reviews made it out to be but it was still pretty grating. The story was predictable and tried too hard to be cool and edgy, it was visually flat and it didn't seem to have a point. That being said there were some funny moments in there and decent performances. Watch it on netflix while you're doing something else.
Beasts of No Nation
I can say I firmly enjoyed it, it was very graphic as it was a sad, I really did love the music, especially in the more graphic scenes and Agu's change of character
[SP]From what I understood of the ending, the children attempt to return to a normal life in a UN camp, and Agu doesn't want to recall his experiences to the psychiatrist rather burying it, so he can live a happy life?[/SP]
As a former serious James Bond fan, it kinda saddens me to see that Spectre is as average as it is.
I have to ask though, despite it being probably asked several times, what are your favorite James Bond films? I think mine is The Living Daylights, but I can't say why exactly right now.
Maybe its because I've never given a shit about the james bond movies that i quite liked it. It seems all the negativity has been coming from fans.

It's a toss up between GoldenEye and Casino Royal.
From Russia, With Love has to be my favorite.
It's a toss up between GoldenEye and Casino Royal.
i think goldeneye only gets the praise it does because of the game
i enjoy the movie and it has memorable moments but i think it's rather on the average side of bond flicks
i'd probably have to say goldfinger or casino royale is my top. really any connery bond film is top 5 for me.
Soylent Green - Despite knowing the major spoiler going in, it was still a great watch. Has that great grim 70s scifi atmosphere.

Existenz - For a Cronenberg film it was pretty weak, but tbh it wasn't absolutely terrible liked I expected. A lot of the plot points and twists were sort of predictable and it seemed to borrow heavily from earlier Cronenberg films. I still enjoyed watching it though.
Europa Report - Fresh take on the found footage genre. Interesting portrayal of space travel and was visually pretty nice.
Ex Machina - 6/10
I guess I went into it expecting something more profound and instead got a psychological horror that happened to be about AI. Good acting and cgi/costuming.
