[sp]It was almost as if James was just showing up wherever the plot needed him to be. So he kills a guy in Mexico, then goes to the funeral in Italy, sleeps with the widow, infiltrates a super secret meeting and then the next time we catch up with him he's sailing on a lake in Austria. There is some foreshadowing, but not a lot, and it's almost as if he just stumbles on Mr. White's lakehouse (at first I thought it was Hans Oberhouser's house, and that James had tracked down his adoptive father, but I was way off the mark with that assumption). We catch up with Bond again at a private medical clinic made entirely out of glass, on the top of a mountain. It turns out this is where Mr. White's genius daughter is hiding, and practically before her dad was cold, Bond sleeps with her. Maybe I was too tired or something but I found myself constantly confused and out of the loop on why and where Bond was throughout the film. It always made sense afterward, but it really threw me.[/sp]
[sp]All of those things were connected. He killed a guy in Mexico because M's will told him to. M's will also told him to go to his funeral. He slept with the widow because she knew stuff like where SPECTRE would meet (he figured that out since the guy he killed in Mexico had the SPECTRE ring). Both in Mexico and in the SPECTRE meeting he hears the name 'the Pale King'. Moneypenny searches that and finds Mr. White and where he's hiding. Mr. White tells him to go see his daughter at the private medical clinic, which is on top of a mountain cuz its rehab. Bond only sleeps with his daughter after a couple of nights, when they're on the train to the SPECTRE base.[/sp] [sp]You were too tired. This was stuff the movie told you.[/sp] also
[sp]like how they turn up everywhere in perfectly fashionable attire, even though they might have only discovered they were going somewhere the day before[/sp]
[sp]Which sequence are you referring to? The one in the train? Because it's pretty clear both Bond and Madeleinne have money they use to buy fancy clothes. It's... kinda obvious, really?[/sp]
There's a criterion sale at Barnes N Noble in the U.S. Use it to pick up the newly released Mullholland Drive [editline]10th November 2015[/editline] http://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/criterion-collection/_/N-1p0i
SPECTRE: 7/10 It was okay. They undercut the action for a more dialogue heavy film, but the dialogue was kinda boring at times, and didn't really develop the characters. The villians were kinda forgettable, and Christopher Waltz's performance wasn't top notch (like in Django - it was still decent though) - the whole NSA-Esque subplot was undermined for the most part. I dunno, it was just really boring for the most part. Maybe I'm still spoiled on Casino Royal?
Moon (2009) Great hard sci-fi movie. Really got me thinking about the ethics of [sp]cloning[/sp]. Simultaneously really sad and really hopeful. Great soundtrack, great robot, great acting. The pacing could get slow at times but this was still a fascinating movie. A couple of questions though, [sp]was there any signifigance to the girl in the chair and the person that Sam sees early on that cause him to crash? Were they just evidence of him losing his mind?[/sp]
He preys on women and takes advantage of them-- if he is not a rapist then he is still a misogynidtic creep
In all fairness Bond takes advantage of literally everyone. He's not specifically a misogynist, he's just a complete cunt.
They made that one.
Man now I want to rewatch it again. Haven't seen most of bond movies but Casino Royal is the best 007 movie for me.
the new jims brond: bad. boring and weird. james is an unlikable cunt, craig didn't need to give any help for that. very little made sense, it was too long, and the villain had no personality. give it a miss unless youre a basic cunt who loves cars [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] it was just fucking lame. the chick is like 'i hate you i hate spies and guns' and then she's like 'i love you lets do a fuck' like honestly they should have had her stick to her guns. a chick who denies all his advances and tells him he's the cunt that he is. this movie is dumb and bad! even the action was snoozeville. i feel like the opening song set the tone for the film. written in 20 minutes without much thought or care. this movie was made to take your money and it has no soul. please don't pay for it [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] the main villain felt more like a dentist than a villain. [sp]and the fucking nanomachine blood plot thread went literally nowhere? it was to track him. but they never actually tracked him or did anything with the tracking info. is the next film going to do an mgs4 and have him slowly dying from the foxdie in his blood???[/sp]
It's really that bad? Bugger, was looking forward to watching it since I rewatched the last three recently. [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] It was funny watching Quantum of Solace again and realizing how forgettable a lot of it was. I didn't even remember the first quarter, perhaps half even. [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] Villain was shit IMO too.
It's really that bad?
IMO it's pretty good.
American Ultra 6/10 I had fun with it. But yeah, I agree with most of the criticism: it could have been so much better, and could have started an interesting franchise or series of films. It's quite a shame that they kind of half-assed it, there's some really cool stuff in it surrounded by mediocre story-telling and a really shallow plot.
the main villain felt more like a dentist than a villain.
To be fair, his last big role was a dentist.

reminds me of oblivion which if it hadnt (poorly) [sp]ripped off moon[/sp] i would have liked it. the first half of the movie was so cool the first time you watched it until the big TWIST if someone ever asked me on the spot to give an example of a movie that had so much potential thatd be it
Just watched No Country for Old Men, still awesome. Just want to remind you all that if you love it, you should watch Slow West too. It's really the same kind of film, atmosphere- and visuals-wise. [editline]11th November 2015[/editline] By the way Rusty100, you hated Spectre so much, but what did you think about Skyfall?
You were too tired. This was stuff the movie told you.
Spectre spoilers [sp]Yeah I know, there were good reasons for everything happening and it did all make sense, it just felt a little disjointed. Like I'm still not sure why that guy came to pick them up at the abandoned train station, did Blofeld keep eyes on that at all times or something? Also I know that it was a little while before they had sex, but it just seemed a little silly how she was all 'I'm not going to fall for you Bond', and then she's all over him after the fight with Jaws 2. By the way, it was a bit too unbelievable that no staff checked up on what all the commotion was with the two of them throwing eachother through walls and stuff (Bautista and Bond and I mean). It seemed like if it wasn't vital that they end up at the station for Blofeld's crater lair, the conductor would have freaked and stopped the train.[/sp] [sp]Also the wardrobe issues, everybody looked great, but there were minor things that just didn't sit quite right with me. Madeleinne specifically not changing into nightclothes in front of James, and then in the next scene she's in a nightdress all of a sudden, for example. Or Lucia Sciarra wearing a corset after sex even though she wasn't wearing one before. And yeah they both have the money to buy appropriate clothes, but I couldn't imagine the shopping scenes. I know I'm nitpicking here but that has to mean something if I was noticing that they look like they were dressed by a costume department for one of the most expensive movies ever made.[/sp]
IMO it's pretty good.
it really isn't. even the action was boring. why do you like the movie?
By the way Rusty100, you hated Spectre so much, but what did you think about Skyfall?
mostly the same, bit a little better i guess? i don't remember it super well
SPECTRE was good, go see it if you want to see a silly old fashioned Bond flick.
watched in bruges again. still so airtight scriptwise and ends at just the right moment. [sp]the way brendan gleesons face relaxes, eyes' roll, then glaze over when he dies is seriously amazing.[/sp] great movie, its worth watching at least twice

I watched the first Rebuild of Evangelion movie and so far I'm liking it far more than I did the series, both in looks and pacing. I gave up on the series about half way through due to how ridiculously slow it was (even for me) and this fixes that right up; there's now an actual story in there. Gonna watch the second one some time soon.
I remember watching a camrip of Rebuild 3.0 from some Japanese theater in 2012 good times [sp]also End of Evangelion is indisputably the high point of the series don't even argue this[/sp]

The rebuilds are half remake and half sequel. The series definitely comes first.
i watched the movies as someone who rarely watches anime and i thought the first one was good i didnt even bother finishing the 3rd one because by the end of the 2nd shit makes absolutely 0 sense if you haven't watched the original show
it wouldn't make too much sense if you watched the series first either. while the first rebuild had a few differences, the second film completely diverges from the series in terms of story and characters. the third even more so.
I don't get why someone would watch any of the movies without having seen the series That's like watching Fire Walk With Me without having seen a single episode of Twin Peaks
I understood the Rebuild movies fine and I never saw the show. Although it felt like so much shit could have been fleshed out.
I want something in between, as I said I found the series too slow but I'd agree that the movies feel a tad rushed.
