Except it's fake and predetermined?
i mean, so is the plot of the film. and the fight scenes in any other movie. they're still fun to watch i dont agree with watching southpaw for any reason but i dont think this is a good reason not to. [editline]24th November 2015[/editline] i mean other movies fight scenes are fun. not southpaws. scripted or otherwise.
because when the parts with the actual sports are good, then good's good, man.
Why not just watch the actual sport then?
Why not just watch the actual sport then?
I never said you couldn't.
Except it's fake and predetermined? The only time sports are worth watching for the sport is when it's a real life game, not a dramatized, predestined victory or defeat where each hit and strike was practiced and choreographed.
ur kind of dismissing fight scenes in movies entirely with this statement
worth watching not a dramatized, predestined victory or defeat where each hit and strike was practiced and choreographed.
that statement is beyond retarded why watch any performance
Self/Less God this movie is full of the usual stuff. The story itself is actually pretty interesting. A wealthy man dying of cancer risks alot of money to start a new life in a new body. But the movie is SO predictable. Every ''twist'' is a twist you expect from the get go. And the choices characters make are facepalm worthy. ''Oh no we are running from these bad guys at night, let's trust the very first car we encounter in the dark!'' I'm giving this movie a 4/10.
Being There 10 outta fucking 10, watch it right now trust me you'll love it, it was just perfect in every way. :v: Up next, Watership Down.
The Peanuts Movie As I sit there watching the recent Peanuts Movie a thought occurs to me: Would I have liked this better if I was younger? While I am writing this review I realize that I as a College age adult I’m really not in the intended age audience for this film but I’ll have it be no secret that I still enjoy children’s films. I even still love the Charles Schulz Peanuts strips. But as for the Peanuts Movie, I wanted to like it more than I did coming out of it and it is certainly one of those movies where I feel that if you liked it, good for you I totally understand why, but I can say the exact same thing if you told me that you didn’t like it. There’s certainly enough to like in the film. The gags involving Snoopy and Woodstock are funny, there’s some great physical comedy as well, Charlie Brown is his normal, loveable loser self, and the film is visually stunning. Perhaps stunning is an understatement. Every single frame of this movie is done in a sort of CGI approximation of Claymation, but what makes it so pleasing to look at is that every single thing in the movie has remarkable texture work done to it and is modeled to a way that mimics the distinctive Charles Schulz style but in 3D, in fact the film mixes bits of this with actual hand drawn segments that look as if they could have been drawn by Schulz himself. Unfortunately the fact is that the film is amazing to look at, perhaps not so much to watch. For all the laughs I had with the segments involving Snoopy and Woodstock and Charlie Brown, the rest of the film is a series of misadventures and arcs that unfortunately usually follow the same turn of events: something good happens to Charlie Brown and we get hopeful and then something bad happens to him that brings him down again. All these arcs seem to last about 20 minutes or so which makes the film seem like a compilation of a TV show that I never watched. In fact if I didn’t know any better I might guess that it might have been the original idea or might be the idea for this film to serve as the pilot for a new Peanuts TV show. It certainly feels like an origin story at times, what with long running gags from the strip getting their setups all at the same time or nearly every single one of the film’s dozens of characters being addressed by name as they get what feels like their mandatory 20 seconds and lines in. It’s not a totally irredeemable story, just one that kind of feels like a rushed first draft. I don’t want to spoil the ending too much but all I’ll say is that, as strange as it may seem to say this, it doesn’t feel like Charlie Brown should get the happy ending he gets in this film. This is not because he’s a bad person, in fact he’s a very good person in the movie. It’s more because of how out of line from the way that the movie treats him as the butt of jokes and having all his hopes and dreams crushed throughout the movie. Plus at times it seemed like the movie was trying to make me believe that some other ending was going to happen and I was actually kind of looking forward to that, but after a while I had to accept that the movie was going to go in the direction it was going. But even beside the story problems there are still plenty of questionable decisions from the filmmakers that leave me scratching my head. The aforementioned visual style is great but some of the animation alternates between fluid animation and this near stop motion and it takes me out of the movie for a second with how jarring it is. It’s kind of like when you’re playing a video game and suddenly the framerate dips due to too much activity. This may very well have been a problem with the digital print of the movie or the theater itself but it would not shock me to find out this is the same in every print. Then there are the other questionable decisions, like the extremely questionable one to add contemporary music to a film that if not for these bits of the soundtrack would seem like a period piece set in the 1950s or whatever timeless period that the long running comic strip was set in. Another questionable one was to have so many gags and jokes be repeated verbatim from the numerous comics, TV shows, movies, specials, etc. that make up the long running Peanuts franchise. When I go to see the Peanuts Movie I am kind of under the impression that I will be seeing a movie in the style of the Peanuts franchise, not the Peanuts franchise in movie form. I do realize that this may make it sound as if I thought it was a bad film when that really isn’t the case. I can’t really say that I liked the film and I can certainly think of more things that I didn’t like about it than otherwise, but I wouldn’t call it a bad film. I’d more or less call it a mixed bag of a film. It’s charming enough and it’s funny at a lot of times but it’s a movie with plenty of questionable decisions that don’t really pay off as well as the filmmakers thought they would. I will say this though: If you have kids in your family take them to see it because they will love it, and yes, I do realize that you can say that about just about any film for kids but this is a really good film for the kids to watch because it’s charming and funny and loveable enough that at times it really does feel like it belongs as a part of the Peanuts library. Perhaps, it might be sad to say, I’m just too old for it. 6/10
Re-Animator - Loved the 80s horror gore effects. As far as over the top gory 80s horror movies go, this is one of the most unique ones out there providing shocks in unexpected ways. [editline]25th November 2015[/editline] Coherence - Wow that was really fucking good. It is amazing how little each actor knew about everything and the lack of a script. It really paid off to do that because the characters' dialogue and actions all felt very natural. If you watch this film, go in 100% blind. Really amazing.
Spectre I thought it was pretty weak, I was hoping they'd go back to another darker and smarter bond movie after Skyfall, but they moved even further away from casino royale, which was a shame. It was still fun but eeh, I wasn't anywhere near as engaged as Casino Royale and I felt like Christoph Waltz was super under-utilized
Dredd - Still amazing upon rewatches. It's a shame that I didn't get to see it when it was in theaters in 3D and as of now, there are no plans of a sequel with the same cast and crew.

It always makes me sad to realize similar films get more success than they deserve and Dredd got practically nothing.
So Gladiator (2000) is one of those films I had always heard about, but since I was never a big movie watcher, it passed me by without a thought and I never really remembered it. Watched it for the first time today and it was absolutely amazing. One of the best films I've seen in years; Joaquin Phoenix and Russell Crowe gave such incredible performances. One of those 10/10 movies for me. It feels so timeless and amazing.
One of the few movies that i wanted to rewatch and it was still good the second time.
it's still good the fourth time. in fact i was thinking of watching it again recently as well, i guess this is as good a time as any since i have another 3 hours to kill before i head out.
50 Shade of Grey 2/10 Holy shit its bad. Like hilariously bad. So bad I was laughing through the majority movie about how much of a creepy control-freak psychopath that Christian dude was. Fucking hell, even the Room was better than this. THE ROOM
Dead Poets Society - Holy shit, watching this now that Robin Williams has died makes it like ten times sadder, especially when [sp]Neil commits suicide.[/sp] Still a great movie though, just be prepared to be sad watching it.
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians - 1/10 MST3K - 8/10
A New Hope: Still my favorite Star Wars, still gets my heart racing during the attack on the Death Star.
Westworld - Really ahead of its time in many ways. Explored themes of computer viruses and relentless androids going after people long before many other similar films. Great film, especially how the buildup was done by building up on Western cliches for almost the entire first half of the film to create an atmosphere in the park of almost normalness.
Outland - Great dark atmospheric setting. A good watch for a scifi fan.
Rocky Balboa (Rocky VI) 7/10 Much, much better ending to Rocky than Rocky V, though still doesn't really live up to the first four movies.
Outland - Great dark atmospheric setting. A good watch for a scifi fan.
is this that sean connery movie? i hardly even remember what happened in it but the atmosphere was really neat
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 2/5 I thought the first movie was mediocre at best, second one was the best one because it had the most going on and the game was pretty exciting. But these last two movies were pretty shit. The first part suffers from being the set up meaning shit happens. Just a huge bore fest. Unfortunately now the finale, part 2, has too little material to make movie out of. Maybe a different writer or director could pull more out of it but we get some many long scenes with filler dialog. And everyone is such a downer in this movie. It also gets a happy ending where the book is more open. Don't want to confuse the average audience member I guess. Harry Potter was the first to do the 2 part deal but at least the finale was a finale. Hobbit and Mockingjay streched themselves too thin.
Spectre (Sam Mendes, 2015) 7/10 You guys were right. Even as a James Bond fan, it's far from perfect. Between the plot holes, uneven timing, the odd comic relief and the multiple narrative dead ends, its main strength is -as expected- the action scenes, the visuals and the general atmosphere. The soundtrack is also rather good.
12 Monkeys - Created a very disorienting chaotic atmosphere. Really well made.
spectre classic bond movie that striked me as a very underwhelming series finale, especially after skyfall which was an important turning point in the bond universe the intro and the ending sequences were both very good but what was in the middle of them, it wasn't particularly interesting to me the movie still works because of the action, the sets, the great costumes, ... waltz was super underutilized, bellucci was kinda of a joke and craig is pretty much the same. bautista never fails as providing excellent muscle and brute force: nailed role, loved him. [sp]eye scarred waltz had so much potential and blofeld could have been handled so much better in my opinion, it kinda makes me sad he was given such a simple script[/sp]
My friends decided it's time we see all the Star Wars movie before the Force Awakens, and we started from The Phantom Menace Every score number I could use couldn't possibly do justice to what I experienced. I watched this movie when I was very young, so rewatching it now as a 24 years old is truly devastating to my opinion of it We literarly spent the whole movie making fun of everything that was happening. The two things that we brought up almost constantly were Jar Jar Binks (it was hard not to) and Qui-Gon Jinn, who is supposed to be a Yoda-like very deep and wise Jedi, but he's written as such as to appear like a fucking idiot who keeps putting the lives of his closest allies and the well fare of the mission in jeopardy for reasons he utterly refuse to explain save for "because destiny says so"
I watched The Martian last night and I really enjoyed it.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Miloš Forman, 1975) 8.5/10 I have never felt so much sympathy towards patients of a mental institution. Jack Nicholson at his finest too.
