My (extremely casual and vague) point scale:
10 - Nigh-on perfect 9 - Very, very good 8 - Great stuff 7 - Enjoyable but not that great 6 - Unremarkable but still good 5 - Not very good 4 - Not good 3 - Pretty bad 2 - Really bad 1 - Why, why. Oh, why.

speaking of, what did you guys think about the 2013 great gatsby? mostly, i loved leo as gatsby but i felt that toby macquire was miscast. i also don't like the directors use of modern music (especially how fucking often he uses that lana del ray song), but I felt they did a pretty good job of portraying a lot of great moments from the book
- I really liked the extravagant world designs, the colorful West Egg and fancy mansion. The art deco of the poster and other promotional stuff was great too. - Casting I thought was fine, I've never really disliked Tobey Maguire so he didn't annoy me or anything. The core cast was pretty good, and Leo was solid. Carey Mulligan was also good, you understand why Gatsby idealizes her but she also portrays that Daisy is definitely not as great as he thinks she is. - I sort of liked how some things were exaggerated for effect. For example: cars back then didn't really go incredibly fast, but to the people then it must have felt like that. Having the driving scenes feel like the cars are going at breakneck speed helped with immersion. Similarly I didn't mind the modern music all that much, it was a clever way to show "parties back then were just as crazy as they are now"... probably would have been better to use something like Parov Stelar that's a little more in-between modern and classic music. - The one thing that I found very off-putting was how disorienting the camera work was. Sometimes it works - audience surrogate Nick isn't used to all the craziness so we connect to him. But I remember an early scene when it's just the characters at dinner and the camera is all over the place - different zooms, positions, breaking the 180 degree rule - and it was just dizzying in a straightforward scene. Some of the other stuff was overdone, too - although I earlier praised the production design it sometimes was overwrought too. There's "style over substance" and then there's "STYLE! over substance", you know?
Absolutely Anything - 7/10 Pretty good, Pegg makes everything better. True that it's pretty much a Bruce Almighty ripoff, but i enjoyed it. Comedic timing is gold.
If a movie is thoroughly enjoyable but nothing else it gets a 7/10 from me, with 8 and above being levels of personal affection 6/10 and below is varying degrees of shit

That being said, it's pretty visually nice looking (except for the ADHD camera work, which is another thing we find funny) and Joel Edgerton playing Buchanan is on par with Simmons-Jameson and RDJ-Iron Man as the best casting for an established character ever. [editline]2nd December 2015[/editline] Basically I'm extremely conflicted about it, I pretty much love it for the wrong reasons
the camera work is something that was consistently disorienting the whole movie is over the top, its cheesy as hell but i can't help liking it, probably a 7/10 for me
my only thoughts on the Great Gatsby movie were that I was so tired of hearing "old sport" by the end also Baz Luhrmann has no idea what he's doing tbh

American Psycho - 9/10 bordering on 10/10? might be the funniest movie i've seen in like two years
american psycho is IMO the best black comedy that i've ever seen, the only one that comes close to its brilliance is in bruges (but for different reasons)
american psycho is IMO the best black comedy of all time
Dr. Strangelove and In The Loop would like a word with you
but spectre isn't craig's last? iirc he's contracted for 5 films.

I will concede it's not a very good movie, but I still enjoy quite a lot of it.
Dr. Strangelove and In The Loop would like a word with you
haven't seen In The Loop, but i personally enjoy AP more than strangelove, even though they are both amazing
And since we're talking about ratings: 5/5 - Something that I really, really enjoyed, or resonated deeply with me. Usually it's case of both. 4/5 - Has some flaws, but enjoyable. 3.5/5 - Average movies that I would probably watch again. 3/5 - Average movies I probably could care less if I saw them again 2/5 - Bad movies. Not that they were poorly made, they just ended up sucking. 1/5 - Really bad movies. Like, it's obvious little to no effort was given while making the movie.
nobody needs to post 'my interpretation of the 1-10 rating system' because its pretty fucking obvious what 1-10 should mean [editline]3rd December 2015[/editline] and when people fuck it up its a great indicator of them having no idea what theyre talking about so you easily know whose ratings to ignore

The Truman Show - Really an amazing film. Really having trouble finding flaws in it. Amazing how it came before this age of reality tv and mass surveillance.
The Truman Show - Really an amazing film. Really having trouble finding flaws in it. i rate all ur rating systems 0/10 not bad, pretty good.
black mass was pretty good but maybe not as good as i expected from the trailers
Boogie Nights 4/5 great movie
Boogie Nights 4/5 great movie
I'm actually rewatching this tonight with a friend who's never seen it and only just recently saw Magnolia and There Will Be Blood Very excited!
i still remember seeing it the first time, having a different ending though - that he goes back to his regular life what the hell kinda version was i watching?
it's probably like that berenstein bears/dead nelson mandela bullshit.
This Is the End Another comedy I heard mostly good stuff about. The fact the main actors play themselves helps a lot. They don't play the true themselves of course but mostly characters they are in every movie/comedy they are in. So yeah, another good time. Unfortunately this and What We Do in Shadows were the only recent comedies I heard good things about. I guess I'm back to avoiding new comedies again. As for rating, I try to avoid it but I prefer the 5 point system. It's more clear in my opinion. As for this movies I think they used their weaknesses to their advantage and created a great comedy where they aren't afraid to make fun of themselves. 4/5
This Is The End was good up until they left the house.
Creed 8.9/ out of fuckin 10 (since there is no real 10 out of 10) It really captures a modern feel of life while mixing humor and drama perfectly together. The cinematography is fucking incredible thanks to a very talented rising director, an all star talented cast, and a beautiful soundtrack. There is this fight scene where it captures it all in one shot and it almost made me cream with the camera spinning round and round with the choreography being perfectly executed. I cant remember the last time my heart was racing during a fight scene this intense. Very cool movie but we all know Fury Road was still the best this year.
This Is The End was good up until they left the house.
the [sp]channing tatum cameo[/sp]is fucking hilarious tho
casino royale it was really nice and refreshing seeing a fledgeling and struggling bond who shows human emotions for once. as someone who doesn't care or know a lot about cards, the poker scenes were absolutely very entertaining troughout. great acting by both craig and mikkelsen (whose suit was gorgeous). didn't mind [sp]the twist with the girl. when you build your entire movie on trust and fronts, you know that someone is gonna fuck the protagonist in the end.[/sp] cr is up there with skyfall as bond movies i'd recommend watching
imo casino royale is the best bond film period, not just the best modern bond
