Being John Malkovich - That was an absolutely amazing film. I did not know what to expect going in and going out I am amazed.

I have a weird relationship with comedy films where I have a sense of humor and laugh at stuff irl all the time and really enjoy sitcoms, but there are very few comedy films that make me laugh I've watched Being John Malkovich three times and genuinely laughed the whole way through during all of them
The only Charlie Kaufman film I've seen is Synecdoche, New York, and I absolutely love it. Which one should be my second?

I had to take a piss in the middle and starting giggling a bit when in the bathroom thinking about previous scenes.
synecdoche new york is one of those movies i always try to get around to seeing but never actually watch, i dont know why
It's a wonderful film, but you have to watch it multiple times to get the most out of it.
Iron Man 2 3.5/5 This is the second time I've seen the movie out of theaters, and it's such a step down from Iron Man. Most of the plot driven scenes (ie the senate hearing) come off as stiff, the Monaco setpiece is kind of lackluster and the finale lacks punch. The character driven bits are stronger because they at least have energy and humor behind them. Just an average movie overall.
The only Charlie Kaufman film I've seen is Synecdoche, New York, and I absolutely love it. Which one should be my second?
Well, Synecdoche is my favorite film of his and easily in my top 5 films of all time I'd say watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind next
Under the Skin - Pretty creepy film tbh. If you like arthouse films, I would reccomend it, otherwise though I do not think you would enjoy it. Very atmospheric film with a very well done soundtrack.

Space Jam why did i think this was a good idea to rewatch
Space Jam why did i think this was a good idea to rewatch
right? It's such a weird fucking movie. The entire premise, what the movie was pitched on, rests on the one single observation by Bugs Bunny that the aliens are shorter than the Looney Tunes, and thus it would be easy to beat them in basketball.
Picture a frantically gesturing white middle-aged corporate businessman, forehead shining, clutching a damp handkerchief, waving a photo of Michael Jordan at the end of a conference table toward suits bearing bemused looks. "And, and, so, the aliens--the little guys, they um. They, steal the, essence, from these all-star players, and so, so, uh, suddenly, y'know, uh, Charles Barkley, he just stops in the middle of the game and gets hit in the head with a ball! Haha, aha, ha, ha, so...um. and, it could be called Space Jam."
Gone Girl What the fuck. I did not expect to feel this amount of disgust when I began this movie. Jesus christ. Might be my 2nd favorite Fincher film, jesus christ im never gonna get married or do anything ever [editline]4th December 2015[/editline] i feel like i need to take a shower
Spring Breakers - Really amazing film and it is pretty funny to picture how a lot of people must have reacted to it going in based on how the trailers made it seem it would be. Great imagery and themes of hedonism, religion, and modern party culture. James Franco gave an amazing performance of some twisted combination of Riff Raff, Charles Manson, George Wallace, and a mental patient.
can you believe the guy who made trash humpers and gummo made a movie with james franco

It was so successful they made a movie about it. I rewatched this a few years back (after not having seen it since I was, like, six) and holy cow it's so fascinatingly awful. It's like they made the entire movie before anyone was able to say "wait, what?" [editline]4th December 2015[/editline] although the soundtrack deserves every ounce of nostalgia praise, it's great
the best part about Space Jam is that the website is still up in its 90s glory.
Anyone seen krampus yet? Prolly gonna go tuesday night.
WarGames - Great film, but honestly there was a really obvious solution that could have stopped the film half way through. [sp]They said that the computer would play the game until it was over so why didn't they just tell it that the Soviets surrender thus letting the computer win the game?[/sp]
Watched a couple of flicks these last few days, got my head around some stuff while in session - and afterwards. Eastern Promises The very first Cronenberg film I've ever seen. I was impressed with the rawness and unprocessed nature of the scenes and dialogues, since roughly 80% of the characters are russian living in london alternating between english and ruski and that mafia feeling of speaking strictly what's necessary. What really got me though is how he adresses the relationship between individuals and the collectives they're part of, which is through their bodies. It's a central theme that bodies only exist within a continuum of other bodies to which they're connected and from which they gain meaning, noticeable in the way they treat the concepts of tattoos, codes and violence - the bathhouse scene is probably one of the best fight scenes I've seen yet. A solid 4/5 to this one.
Woke up at 5 AM a few weeks ago, wrote this, fell asleep, and forgot about it until now. Enjoy. The Martian One of my favorite things about this movie was the spot-on casting. Matt Damon had great comedic timing and was as hunky as usual. In all honesty I can't remember seeing him in a film before this, but he's always loomed in the edges of my consciousness, like the shadow of a long forgotten memory. Matt is, to me, the sinewy specter of something lost, his gossamer threads entangling my mind as they trail behind him. I can follow him but I only become more and more ensnared in his delicate strands; he paces faster when I am in his wake, trying to outwalk and then outrun me, but there I am, dragging behind him, caught in his web of peripheral cultural relevance. In a sense he is the one who is trapped: film journalists will suck him dry as they have with hundreds before him. He may end his run as a Cobain, a Williams; or perhaps he will meet a lighter fate and retire to a scenic mountain cabin deep in New Zealand. We are all hurtling towards our ends, but some of us meet fate full-bore, ushering in nothingness with our own hands, treating death as a solution those chronic pains which we all suffer, but of which some of us carry more than our fair share. Others find a nice quiet life among the lush jungles of an island that's only a 1500km swim from the world's least hospitable continent (sorry, Antarctica, you come in second this time). Speaking of inhospitable, Mars seems like a pretty unpleasant place to live. I sure am glad I'm not an astronaut. The Martian: 9/10 brought genuine pleasure to my otherwise joyless existence.
Bridge of Spies Damn I love cold war espionage, and this is a great addition to that genre. It's mostly talking and legal stuff, so don't expect a james bond style film, but the writing is terrific, supported by very very good performances across the board and spectacular cinematography. It's just shot so well, they just nailed the atmosphere. If I have to nitpick, the story doesn't have all that many twists and turns, but is still interesting. If it wasn't based on true events it wouldn't really have the same effect.
Anyone seen krampus yet? Prolly gonna go tuesday night.
Gonna see it later today, so I'll write up some thoughts. It's probably gonna suck
Space Jam why did i think this was a good idea to rewatch
Honestly, I never even saw Space Jam until about 2 years ago, and I thought it was a fun movie and not all that bad. [editline]5th December 2015[/editline] It certainly wasn't good, but it was very enjoyable.
So there's no way for critics to get the word out about The Force Awakens until opening day? Jeeeeeez
Honestly, I'm more concerned that we're going to get a repeat of TDKR a few years back when it comes to critic reviews. If some Batman fans can be such manchildren, I dread to see what the scummier parts of the Star Wars fandom will do.
Iron Man 3 4/5 Shutter Island 4/5 Watched these both last night, both being my second viewing and I really enjoyed them a lot more than when I watched them the first time. Iron Man 3 is still easily one of the best Marvel movies, and who really cares about the twist anymore? Shane Black could've made a straight superhero movie (part of me wishes he did), but he didn't, and what he did was brilliant. The movie still has some flaws (the CG is a little dodgy and the extremis stuff is a little weird) but it's still quite a movie. Shutter Island is a lot more interesting the second time around, mostly because it starts to make much more sense. It's not that the movie was really confusing in the first place, but it's like watching Fight Club the second time around and you notice all the pieces falling into place. Also, this time around, I finally understood the ending. Good shit there. And today I rewatched Commando 4/5 It's not the best 80s action movie, but it's so cheesy and awesome it's impossible not to enjoy it
