Oh shit I was going to go see the lobster but I totally forgot. Is it out on home media yet?
irreversible is like [sp]oh, of course shes pregnant too! why wouldn't she be! you can just picture the director being like 'hmm. how can we make this REALLY sad?'. its so transparent and borderline just manipulative garbage. it hits all those generic 'THIS IS MEANT TO UPSET YOU. ARE YOU UPSET YET' beats. its an obvious, tired experience.[/sp] [editline]13th December 2015[/editline] the lobster [editline]13th December 2015[/editline] solaris
We need a list of movies Rusty would actually recommend to people. It'd probably be really short but pretty good.
Oh shit I was going to go see the lobster but I totally forgot. Is it out on home media yet?
i don't think so but it's good
why wouldnt you just say terminator 2 or the raid 2 or something else thats actually good
alright, i'm gonna torture you guys with my voyage into the evil dead franchise a little bit more i'm planning to see army of darkness (alone or with my dad) and check out the tv series too. but before that, i really want to watch the 2013 remake of evil dead 1 with my friends since its style would click better for them, in my opinion. can i directly introduce my friends to the remake without them saying "this is dumbest thing i've ever seen in my life"? or do i have also to make them sit through the first two movies?
why wouldnt you just say terminator 2 or the raid 2 or something else thats actually good
for once will you just let someone have their own opinion that doesn't match yours

I liked it but it's pretty far removed from the style of the originals. Black Mass 7/10 Good all-round, I probably wouldn't watch it again but I can't complain.
the remake is a straight up serious horror film so theyd be fine with it
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - 10/10 I loved it, very strong performances and it was neat how they filmed it as if everything was done in one continuous shot, no cutaways. It was just perfect and I could go on and on about it.
I think im in the few that wasnt that impressed by Birdman. Keeton did an amazing job but overall i didnt walk away blown away.
die hard is the best action movie of all time
Because Sin City is my favorite action movie. Oh! What a Lovely War (1969) - Decided to watch it one more time before sending it back to Netflix. This is the tale of World War One, satirically and surreally seen through the eyes of the Smith family, who in the end have 5 members at the front. It's extremely anti-war, and a lot of it comes from the juxtapositions of both the fairly cheerful songs of the day, and the timeless headquarters (located upon the Boardwalk of which the war is more or less an amusement park). Though, as a result of this, sometimes scenes are disjointed and don't really seem to have a flow. Personally, I liked that aspect since the main story really is of the war, and not the family, so much like the war you must move on. Overall it's an interesting anti-war film, one that I can definitely recommend.
this week I watched Jurassic world: 5/10- some action was cool and Chris Pratt was okay. Decent movie but really bland. Eraserhead: 10/10- a beautiful movie about anxiety that's both hilarious and terrifying. This is something you'll love or hate, but it's definitely the most bizarre movie you'll ever see Jurassic Park: 7.5/10- a good classic movie about Dino's, some poignant moments and good characters. CGI and practical effects hold up pretty well surprisingly. I dig it Mulholland Dr: 10/10- story is phenomenal, and once you understand it a truly captivating movie. A must see

The Beach - tbh I don't understand why critics panned it so much when it came out. It isn't the greatest movie ever, but imo it was still pretty good. Great development from [sp]an escapist adventure tale, to a psychological thriller with heavy Apocalypse Now influence.[/sp] My only major problem is the very end [sp]felt a bit false and should have been more abrupt. Despite him saying he cannot forget what happened on the island, the film still tries to act as if it was a good place.[/sp]
Attack the Block - A very fun modern scifi film.
Eyes Wide Shut - 10/10 I don't give a perfect rating lightly. This has top-form Kubrick all over it and I think it's probably his magnum opus, next to 2001. I try to watch this every Christmas season and I appreciate it more each and every time.
You say it's cool but you still insult him for his opinion. That's kind of a mixed message there.
rusty100 being passive aggressive and opinionated what a surprise . . .
Birdman is so fucking good. One of those movies I can watch over and over again and it only gets better. It was head and shoulders over everything that came out that year and 2014 was incredible for movies.
That and Whiplash are among my absolute favorites ever, and hopefully 2016 will be kind to the industry and keep the ball rolling considering (in my opinion) 2015 wasn't too eventful. Fingers crossed for The Force Awakens though since Lucas isn't in charge this time.
Mulholland Dr: once you understand it
this is a contradiction
Not sure which is more depressing,Antichrist or Melancholia
Dancer in the dark
Watched Home Alone for the first time years. 7/10
boy in stripped pyjamas 9/10
As weird as it sounds, I would also recommend that before watching this movie, you've been in a relationship, whether you're with someone or had an experience like that before, that's all I'll say. It gives the overall themes a lot more impact. Anyway, yeah, this is easily one of my favorite films and even though I don't think everyone will appreciate it, I'd definitely say that anyone who's reading this should give it a try. You won't regret it.
I'm actually of the opinion that Eyes Wide Shut is about [sp]the cruelty of the 1%.[/sp] Namely in how Bill Harford [sp]uses money to manipulate people "below" him - taxi drivers, prostitutes, costume shop owners - yet is unable to stay at the cult orgy because of his own class indicators in that he didn't have a limousine and rented his costume.[/sp] I could go on and on, but this is the best example of this theory imo
