The Force Awakens Lord, I wish it didn't pander so much to the original trilogy fans. If only it tried to be its own movie. Also what was with half the film just feeling like a straight up comedy? Almost like a parody even. Some good bits here and there, desperately needed to do its own thing, as well as re-write and cast the villain.

I've been thinking about it since I've never actually seen Star Wars-related things (aside the Clone Wars cartoon but I only mostly remember Grievous being hardcore) and several sites are going off like its the greatest starting point for new viewers. Might just be rose-tinted glasses so I'm cautious.

It happened on average every 10 minutes it felt like, but maybe I was just so weary of it that it felt more common.
just came back from the force awakens too, wasnt hyped for it or anything but the showing times were convenient since i was already out on the town good movie, the constant "hey remember this?" parts were annoying but past that was a really good action movie that went back to the basics, in a good way the ending was a bit underwhelming but i was pleasantly surprised with the movie overall
Just saw The Force Awakens. Go see it, it's a pretty great movie. It was a bit like episode four, in that it suffered from pacing issues. The beginning was also a bit too comical and tried to pander to old fans. Overall I'd rate it 8/10, on par with episode four, but still under five.
tbh the only real thing i'm looking forward too is that boy from peckham decapitating aliens.
Also, this movie has 100% less lightsaber dance ballets, which was a HUGE leg-up. Seriously felt like I was actually watching a Star Wars movie.
Buffalo '66 - I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, but I'm also a Bills fan currently residing in Buffalo. I still thought it was well put together.
u know which film surprised me... steve jobs. no lies I enjoyed that movie quite a bit, ruthless performances and no waffle.
Rollerball (Norman Jewison, 1975) 9.5/10 What I expected: a dumb film about sports and the value of winning, violence and brute strength. What I got: a smart film about backdoor politics, privileges in modern society, free will and desire. One of the best science-fiction films of the 70s I've ever seen. Go see it. It's ahead of its time in many aspects.
it's amazing how it's technically better than after earth and the last airbender but is still his least enjoyable film to watch so fzr
I totally agree. I was almost baffled at how slow and boring it was.
u know which film surprised me... steve jobs. no lies I enjoyed that movie quite a bit, ruthless performances and no waffle.
makes me mad that it bombed so bad, i understand that no one really cares about steve jobs anymore but Fassbender was amazing and Sorkin outdid himself with the dialogue
makes me mad that it bombed so bad, i understand that no one really cares about steve jobs anymore but Fassbender was amazing and Sorkin outdid himself with the dialogue
I think it was less because people stopped caring about steve jobs and more because of just how bad Jobs was
makes me mad that it bombed so bad, i understand that no one really cares about steve jobs anymore but Fassbender was amazing and Sorkin outdid himself with the dialogue
I would like to think it also has to do with that last Steve Jobs movie, the one with Ashton Kutcher that was complete dogshit. I mean just like look at this [editline]16th December 2015[/editline] or how about this classic scene Jobs screwed over this new one
u know which film surprised me... steve jobs. no lies I enjoyed that movie quite a bit, ruthless performances and no waffle.
just wanted to emphasize, it's not the lame generic kind of biopic.. this one is spaced into 3 sections that go through various releases of major products he released. imo the way in which they strayed away from the lame predictable kind of storytelling is a big plus and it has v good music and flows with ease.

I enjoyed myself. but it felt like a teen reboot that at the same time never stopped introducing old characters, it was strange. it hits all the right beats, but its just a weaker, 2015 update of a new hope. exactly what everyone thought it would be. [editline]17th December 2015[/editline] it definitely felt like a fan fiction which is a big shame. [editline]17th December 2015[/editline] it kind of gave me guardians of the galaxy vibes. like yeah its fun and enjoyable. but I'm not gonna remember it or care about it in a few months, you dig
so is it more/less effective than the Star Trek reboot? [editline]16th December 2015[/editline] that being said it wasn't even that long since the last Star Wars movie...
Force Awakens 8\10 Pretty much what was said above and beyond. I didn't really mind some parts but they were stretching it so far. Underwhelming ending but i feel the movie delivered well for what it was, for people that haven't watched Star Wars, i think it helps people to get interested (as if they weren't after watching the trailer that is). Regardless, i enjoyed it, i watched it with very low expectations.

I watched attack of the clones for some reason and it was actually better than I remember it still sucked though 4/10
I'm gonna say something really controversial - when watched back to back, Episode IV right after prequels, cult classic legendary aside it doesn't stand that far from the prequels quality-wise. It might be difficult to take off nostalgia goggles but the things I hated in prequels are visible here. Of course, they can be somehow excused, taking into consideration that it was 70s, but still, there was no such things in ESB or RotJ. It's just another point against Lucas. I'm not saying A New Hope is bad, oh now. It's just less impressive after time. Especially if you watch The Hidden Fortress in between.
Lucas' best film forever will be American Graffiti for me anyway... shame he never made movies like that afterwards. :[
Not that disappointed by the new Star Wars. They could have fucked it up a lot more. Way way better than Episode I, that's for sure. There was a bit too much comedy and [sp]bad guy with Jon Snow hair was a bit boring compared to previous Sith[/sp]
The Killer (1989) - Really good action film. Great stunts and scenes.
Since I accidentally wrote up a review for this in SH, I might as well post it here. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens It was good. Not anything incredible or amazing, it was good. There were some stupid points and ideas that kept it from being truly great. Major fucking spoilers: [sp]It felt a lot like a "A New Hope" remake, with some new ideas thrown in (though most of the new stuff introduced were good ideas). The plot is almost point-for-point Episode IV, (Good guys being massacred by bad guys in the beginning, introduction of a masked villain who captures an important character, person on a desert planet with a boring life and without parents being taken on the adventure and eventually learning to be a jedi, han & chewie helping the protagonist get to the rebels/resistance, planets being blown up by Death Star/Star Killer, X Wings attacking DS/SK, Lightsaber duel, and death of an important character to further motivate the protagonists to fight the evil force.[/sp] JJ played it a bit too safe for my taste, but it's complete understandable. A Star Wars movie is extremely difficult to make, you can't go too far with new ideas, you can't be too safe and avoid throwing in some risky stuff, you have to have fan-service for the bloody fanboys who'll shit themselves if they don't see R2D2 go "doot doot" at least once, but you have to introduce new characters and locations. It's trying to find that balance which created incredible films like The Empire Strikes Back, but to me that movie was lightning in a bottle. Star Wars, at least for me, has been less about the huge battles and space dogfights and more about the characters, the mystery/discovery and the emotion. Though Ep VII had a lot more competent writing, direction, heart and acting than the prequels, I still feel JJ focused too much on the bombastic and grandiose action sequences (which were spectacular) than on the plot and the characters. Either because that's all the fanboys want nowadays or because that's just JJ (which wouldn't surprise after what he did with the Star Trek remakes). All in all, I'm glad it was a good film and not a disaster like the prequels, although it didn't deserve 9.2/10 on IMDB, didn't deserve 100% on RT. Though I do have high expectations for the next episode, as it'll be written and directed by Rian Johnson, who's a good screenwriter, and director IMO
tonight, since my friends are a bunch of lazy fuckers, i concluded all by myself the original evil dead trilogy with Army of Darkness. definitely the lightest movie of all three and my least favourite one. that doesn't mean that i didn't enjoy it! 80 minutes smoothly flew away while watching ash with his "i'm sick of this shit but still acting cool" atttitude against an army of comical skeletons. i can't also count out this movie because that one-line at the very end, [sp]"hail to the king baby"[/sp] i really don't wanna repeat myself too much but i had such a great time overall watching these movies that that quickly became some of my favourites. 100% doing a rewatch my dad since he's also a fan of them and he kept me in the dark about it all this time for no other reason than "I thought horror movies scared you"
Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi - 8/10 Definitely the weakest out of the trilogy - it especially suffers coming right after the stellar Empire. In a word, the biggest problem with Jedi is that it just feels smaller - the stakes feel lower, plot points feel like checking boxes. Whereas the first two films made it feel like the core six (Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Artoo, Threepio) were banding together as part of the greater Rebellion, this one feels like the big picture sort of takes a back seat to these folks doing their thing. The increasing endings are also troublesome - the finale often cuts between three very different actions (battle on the planet, dogfights in space, duel in the throne room) and the different tones and levels of excitement sort of kill each others' momentum. Plus I'm still not a big fan of Luke and Leia turning out to be siblings. But all that doesn't mean the movie's not good! The opening sequence in Jabba's Palace is great fun, with all sorts of very cool and gross creature designs (including good ol' Jabba himself). McDiarmid is fantastic as the insidious Emperor (a role he had even more fun with in III). Hamill really does sell the conflict Luke feels - one that has been building over the trilogy - about how to use the power he has, and whether to embrace compassion or abuse his anger and power. The final act in the throne room is the emotional high point of the series and still gives me chills at times. Now just one more day to avoid spoilers on the internets and I can see what happens next... P.S. Ewoks are fine. Yub Nub is fine. stop complaining so much about them

I've been interested in the Evil Dead movies
ughhhh I'll see you guys after I watch TFA, not putting up with this shit.
