Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back- 10/10 2 hours go by like 30 minutes. I would elaborate more if I wasn't on my phone, but yeah, you shouldn't need my recommendation, just see it. It's perfect.
Yeah, same here, did a double feature with Episode V and VI. It's like Empire Strikes Back is the perfect sequel - builds up the world even further, advances the plot, introduces new characters but at the same time evolves the existing ones. And then there's Return of the Jedi that tries a little too hard at times. Like it didn't understand for what reason people loved the New Hope and ESB. And merchandise. I believe that was the only reason for Ewoks. Just now it occured to me, that in ANH and ESB it was C3PO that was this comic relief, slightly annoying but overall necessary to break down eventual edgy darkness. And it was fun. But then Ewoks in RotJ was slight overdoing it. And the a fucking Jar Jar Binks in prequels was like "HAVE WE PASSED THE LINE? DO YOU ALREADY HATE ANY KIND OF FUN. ARE WE COOL WITH CHILDREN STILL".
episode 3 was better than return of the Jedi
episode 3 was better than return of the Jedi
I used to think this.
Marathon I'm at is finally at Jedi. Seeing the entire series like this is an entirely different, movie enhancing experince
I used to think this.
Same. When I was 15.
Bone Tomahawk Great movie that sadly not many people are talking about. It's a brilliant slow burning western/horror kind of movie, that anyone with an attention span longer than that of a starfish should pick up and watch. It's pretty damn slow, but the final act is well worth it. It manages to keep you tense even with its slow pace and almost complete abscence of music. Great characters, and damn brutal at times. recommended
all i saw of bone tomahawk was a guy getting scalped and then sliced in half in gruesome detail, not sure its the movie for me
all the spoiler shit is why i think films releasing in one part of the world before others is absolutely stupid in a modern age.
Just got back from The Force Awakens. It was a safe film and very good for it, I'd definitely recommend it to almost anyone and I'd say that everything it did, it did well. Good characterisation, fantastic visual flare and the story progressed at a good rate where it never felt like anything was just stalling for time. That said, the story is a little flat and uninspired, treading the same ground as a New Hope in a slightly different order. The two leads had fantastic chemistry and dished out a top-tier performance so hats off to them.
Star Wars EP7 spoilers [sp] I thought it seemed pretty obvious Ren is kinda inexperienced ( him losing complete control and smashing up his office, not to mention he's young, meanwhile Rey has been shown to be really talented in melee right away and it's clear she's really strong with the force. It's not that far fetched. Also he just murdered his own dad, that probably didn't help. [/sp]
Also that [sp]he was injured by Chewie's crossbow that's powerful enough to kill stormtroopers.[/sp]
Call Me Lucky Very good documentary. If you're a fan of Bill Hicks and George Carlin it's worth your attention.
The Force Awakens It made me yearn for the 70s. Because in the 70s people sitting in front of you didn't have anything to check every 20 minutes at full brightness. Very solid movie, better than I was expecting. I'm not the biggest star wars fan so maybe a bunch of cringeworthy references went over my head but hey I guess that's me getting a better experience. The one major complaint I have is that it was far too fast paced; the characters never seemed to stop once through 95% of the movie. The biggest plan with the highest stakes took literally 30 seconds to come up with then whoosh they're away. It needed some breathing room. On the whole though I really enjoyed it 76.2/10
Star Wars: TFA It was okay. Worse than the original trilogy, much better than prequels. I don't regret going to the theatre to the midnight premiere, I slightly regret staying through third act. [sp]It just fucking falls apart. Kylo Ren has a potential as a villain but you can bet your ass next two movies will be about bringing him to the light side, because this film steals from the original trilogy almost every aspect.[/sp] Disappointed about [sp]Domhnall Gleeson, easily the worst element, but it's not his fault if in the script he had a description to impersonate Space Hitler. Same with "oh hey it's Andy Serkins as CGI villain". Pleasantly surprised with Lupita's character, kind of like Yoda, but different, that was fine[/sp] And for fuck's sake [sp]how many times the main closure of Star Wars film will be blowing a giant battlestation with the abilities to destroy entire planets EXACT SAME WAY.[/sp] My biggest issue though is this - the film seems and sounds to be made for this very moment. For 2015, when the hype is enormous, people and fans are dying to see the newest installments, so every moment of pandering towards the audience seems justified, even wanted. But I have no idea how it's going to hold on its own say two years from now, if it's even going to be bearable to watch during marathon of an entire series.
domhall gleeson has been getting fucked since ex machina, it seems like all of his roles have been really bad (revenant, stah wahs) hes probably making mad money though so good for him
The Zero Theorem - Not one of Gilliam's best, but at the same time not a bad movie.
My opinion of Return of the Jedi is that everything bad about the movie is instantly negated due to the amazing scenes with Luke, Vader, and the Emperor. Empire as a whole is my favorite in the series, but nothing is as good as those scenes.

No one likes overacting.
Gremlins 4/5 fun movie
Not seeing Force Awakens until next Wednesday so I decided to rewatch the original trilogy before then (and the Plinkett reviews of the prequels) A New Hope - 7/10 The Empire Strikes Back - 9/10 Hopefully I'll have time to squeeze RotJ somewhere in tomorrow [editline]17th December 2015[/editline] the reviews I've seen of Force Awakens so far are pretty much what I was expecting. Still excited though
Timecop - Exactly what you would expect from a film named "Timecop" starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but not in a bad way. A fun action film.
Killer Joe: 9/10 Great movie about rednecks. Super strong performances drive an interesting story. The last 20 minutes are absolutely insane. The NC-17 version is a must
Star wars episode 7. 9.5/10. Loved it. I think Ep 8 will be even better.
The Force awakens is probably one of this year's highlights. its a really great experience, even if you're not into star wars or are unaware of the previous movies and i feel it was designed as an introduction to the series just like Eps IV and I were - playing safe, not going overboard and keeping this in check. with this being said, I still believe Mad Max was fairly superior, and its probably still my personal favorite for this year.
people actually use their phones at the cinema? i've never really seen that here, before every movie it's strongly noted to turn off phones during it, and people seem to oblige..
Watched that new star wars movie yesterday, and holy jesus christ, that was probably one of the most epic films i’ve seen in, like, years. Characters are astoundingly charismatic, especially that new villain guy. He was just horrifying in his dreadful behaviour, the new fancy mask he wears only adds to that aura of horror surrounding him, and when he takes it off..god dammit, that was the face i will never forget, it’s going to haunt me in my worst nightmares. Harrison ford was perfect, that old lady starring as old leia was perfect, chubaka was hairy, and the final epic lightsaber battle is something you’ve never seen in movies before. Oh yeah, and the drama…jesus, that drama. I just have no words to express how good it is, can only mention that i literally cried at some moments (won’t spoil them for you). All in all 12/10, best star wars episode since j.j.[del]abrams[/del] binks.

to be fair she has aged the worst out of everyone
most likely because everyone remembers fisher as leia back in the original trilogy. it was quite a shock to see how much han solo has aged in the last years.
its a really great experience, even if you're not into star wars or are unaware of the previous movies and i feel it was designed as an introduction to the series just like Eps IV and I.
No it aint, for better or for worse (worse imo) this one was a star wars movie for star wars fans. A decently fun movie that almost anyone can enjoy to be fair, but imagine going into this one without knowing what the Force is or who Luke and Darth Vader are. Which is a shame because most of the new stuff is quite good, there's just not enough of it, replaced instead by constant throwbacks that go from cute to irritating real fast.
to be fair she has aged the worst out of everyone
No, at least acting wise. All due respect to Harrison Ford but he lost part of his charm several years ago, and while at times you could see the flashes of old Han, it wasn't the same. But I appreciate the effort. Carrie Fisher doesn't look that bad, but she has that very old voice, unfitting to her character. But Hamill? I won't argue with that, that motherfucker looks even better than 30 years ago.
