I really wish The Thing would get a blu-ray remaster. even the hd-dvd looks better than the blu.
but unfortunately since it's Universal that will probably never happen. Just re-release after re-release with different cover art and the exact same disc inside.
The Seventh Seal - Really amazing how dark of a film it was when you realize the time period it was made. Great symbolism, interesting characters, and overall was a great movie. Truly a classic film.
Hobo With A Shotgun: 8/10
the most badass film I have watched while simultaneously being fucking stupid as hell
Despite my post in SH saying I wouldn't, I did go and see Fantastic 4 simply because I got $150 worth of movie vouchers for my B'day (family knows I like going to the movies).
Turns out it wasn't as bad as I'd expected it to be, but, it wasn't that redeemable either. The amount of scientific word salad in movies really irks me if it's done poorly, and this movie did it horrendously. The 'zero planet' scenery on the other hand was done extremely well.
I've seen movies of this kind that were more poorly executed that still received higher reviews, I think it deserves higher rating than IMDB's 3.9, maybe on the order of a 4.5-5.
Going to see F4nt4stic 4 tomorrow, my friend declined the invitation because he "can't stand superhero movies". It's sad that some people lump them all together with this.
I think the theater is actually losing money by honoring an online ticket order from when they had set up an incorrect (lower) price.
Gone Girl: 8/10
Great performance from both the lead actors. [sp]Holy shit I have never hated a fictional character more in my entire life.[/sp]
The Man From UNCLE
???/10
Very entertaining... until halfway through the movie during the [sp]escape from the vault[/sp] the visual cut out... but the sound didn't. After hearing but not seeing the movie for about 2/3 minutes the film stopped for a few minutes, before starting again - but without a rewind, so the first thing we saw was [sp]the Russian guy unconscious underwater for some reason and Henry Cavill in a truck with no idea how he got there[/sp]. Anyway, the film continued for another 20 mins or so before the projector cut out AGAIN, the staff of the cinema told us they would attempt a temporary fix so we could finish the movie as a full fix would take 30 mins. 2 minutes later it broke again, and we never saw the end.
We were refunded for our trouble and given 2 free passes to any movie of our choice, but now if I want to see the end of the film I'll have to sit through the whole thing again and to be honest... it wasn't so good that I'm willing to do that.
So the first 3/4 of the movie were generally pretty entertaining, terrible accents aside! I did appreciate some of the funky shots/cuts/splits done with the characters but as others have said it was tough to keep track of things sometimes.
And no, this wasn't a small, independent cinema, it was the massive Vue complex at Westfield in Shepherd's Bush, London. Tut tut.
tl,dr - Projector cut out 3 times before dying and I missed the end of the film.
Gladiator
6/10
Pretty good so long as you aren't a history wiener and just ignore the inaccuracies. It's a fun movie nonetheless.
This is why people don't like number ratings. If we could all learn to agree on a standard things would be so much better
People don't like number ratings if you use them wrong, sheesh. I don't see anyone complain when I rate a movie 7/10 and says "it was pretty good". If you said something contradictory like "I loved this movie, it was okay I guess" people would still dislike it.

That sucks, that was probably the funniest part of the movie, at least right before the part you're describing when Cavill just [sp]found a random sandwich perfectly placed in the basket while Hammer was getting destroyed by the guards[/sp]
Foxcatcher 8/10
good thing i didnt read up anything on it before watching because that ending hit me really hard man. very interesting story.
it's also so well shot and has amazing performances, it actually reminded me of Warrior!
:snip: I can't read apparently.
mission impossible: rogue nation
less action-packed than the last one, in my eyes it was more thriller based (nothing wrong with that). but the action scenes were all good, as i was expecting from a mi movie: [sp]i really enjoyed the opera one.[/sp]
would reccommend it.

I actually joked to my friend that we were probably missing the best part of the movie... sounds like I was right :frown:
I think the first thing we actually saw was [sp]him eating in a truck...[/sp] made absolutely no sense!
Well movie thread, it's the final weekend before I go back to College and won't be able to go to the movies till Thanksgiving week in November. Might as well go down to the theater one last time and catch the new...

Maybe I should just go through all the packed boxes and see if there's anything that I forgot. Just to be safe.
Saw Straight Outta Compton.
Good. The drama was great, performances were solid, and the several music concerts they showed were hype as fuck. The bad: It's 2 and a half hours long and still feels like things move so fast that they could've used another 30 minutes to tell the whole story. It also ends out of fucking nowhere. They wrap up the story like 10 seconds after Eazy E dies and it feels way rushed. I had to double take to make sure the credits were actually rolling.
But despite that it's still a solid movie overall. If you really like early-90s hip hop you're probably gonna love it but the movie is good enough that you can go in with no knowledge of nwa's history and still like it.
I heard MC Ren wasn't in it like at all. That true?

honestly i want to see hitman for no real reason.
I heard MC Ren wasn't in it like at all. That true?
Absolutely, he's a side character AT BEST.
Damn, poor Ren. I still wanna see the film. Unsure if I want to in theaters though.
I almost saw SOC on the same day I saw Man from Uncle but I saw the run time and I had plans for dinner in the evening. With absolute crap opening this weekend according to RT I might go and see it.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
I enjoyed it, a good hearty 7/10. I like spies and the 60s so it meshed well for me.
Straight Outta Compton.
8.5/10. It was really good, I really enjoyed it. Ice Cube is the motha fuckin man.
Inside Out
8/10. Story is rather simple, though it shows that Pixar still knows what the fuck they're doing.
Two Days, One Night - 6/10
Watch Marion Cotillard be sad and life suck: the movie. I can't say it's was entertaining, but if you know the premise of the movie you shouldn't be surprised. It's basically just a slice of life when everthing's going against you. That being said, the realism of this movie is spot on, the dialogue all feels real, and nothing's really sugarcoated or melodramatic, you just feel bad anyway because you can easily relate. I like the way the ending played out, especially.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - 8/10
Actually haven't seen the other MI films, but really enjoyed it. Liked the thriller aspect, and it was enjoyable to watch.
Predator 2 - Nowhere near as good as the first. Danny Glover and Bill Paxton did a good job in the film though. Still a fun movie.
Terminator Genisys - 6/10
Well, I guess it was right to believe the reviews when they said it gets worse and worse with each movie. Everything in this movie was very, very predictable - like, for example, when [sp]at the end, it seemed like Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) "died" because of an explosion (?), but he fell into the liquid that gives the Terminator shape-shifting abilities, which was earlier mentioned to "not work without a processor" - I could predict from that, that he was still alive, which he was, and he was in fact given shape-shifting abilities.[/sp] I'm not the best at remembering things, but I do remember for sure that there were plenty more scenes in the movie that were rather predictable. At this point it seems like they're only milking the franchise because they know people will watch it anyways, hoping that it'll get better. That's saying they weren't already doing that, though. On the other hand, however, it's not the worst movie of its kind - I have definitely seen worse "Hollywood" movies.
Magnolia - 10/10
Third time I've watched it and I love it more and more each time, this is definitely Paul Thomas Anderson's masterpiece
