really? i loved that movie wouldn't be able to explain why because i saw it a while ago but i recall it being a great dark comedy
I think most of it comes down to me really, really disliking Frances McDormand's character.
I didn't really like Burn After Reading either but I think it mostly comes down to the movie kind of just...fizzling out
I think most of it comes down to me really, really disliking Frances McDormand's character.
You're telling me you didn't like this scene
The Force Awakens was a solid movie though I have to agree the music was very weak compared to the prequels and originals but not episode 2 (since episode 2 just reuses most of episode 1's music) It's not John William's fault, he just didn't have the right orchestra this time.

can someone explain the final scene of There Will Be Blood to me [sp]the whole movie was fucking amazing but it was completely devoid of humor, but in the bowling alley scene its either completely hilarious or unintentionally completely hilarious. DDL saying "DRAAAINNNNAAGGGEE" in that voice actually made me laugh out loud[/sp]
[sp]Well at that point he's basically lost his mind, he's an immoral alcoholic who's just disowned the only person who meant anything to him. Also he really hates the priest guy and no longer cares enough to hide it.[/sp]
haha that ending was truly a beast of an ending. esp how that twat keeps dodging reminds me also...i haven't had milkshake in goddamn ages..
haha that ending was truly a beast of an ending. esp how that twat keeps dodging reminds me also...i haven't had milkshake in goddamn ages..
"I'm finished." Cut to Brahms. Yep, probably one of my favourite endings of all time.
well, someone on xbox live just dropped a major spoiler about Star Wars because the fucking mute button on Halo 5 is broken and now im pissed as hell
I saw the latest Hunger Games film today. I'd read the books already so I knew what I was in for, but the film was just messy. I'd seen a tonne of trailers for it with Choirs, pumping Orchestral soundtracks and flashy text saying "THE MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR NOTHING CAN PREPARE YOU FOR IT" and it really seems like they knew what they were selling. The first two films were decent enough, take on the regime and fight the power and a simple love triangle, teenage stuff. But this one? It was poor. The story jumped about a lot, Characters changed between scenes and entire plot threads were dropped and suddenly snatched up with grasping fingers when they could be relevant again. At the start of the film, Katniss says twice that they should be trying to avoid Collateral where they can, and then it's never mentioned again. They crawl through an abandoned city and there's no sign that it's a place people lived in. They're just concrete streets with scorch marks scattered about and a little fire. And the whole Peeta thing, I don't remember it from the books but it seemed that his condition was only an issue when it affected someone other than Katniss, and when it did affect her it was a building block in their relationship. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a die-hard fan, and even then I suspect they'd be dissapointed.
The only not-bad Hunger Games movie was Catching Fire. And even that one was sort of ehhhhhh. Don't think I'll be watching the last one even though I've read the books. Also I find the line "NOTHING CAN PREPARE YOU" in the marketing campaign rather amusing, nothing can prepare you indeed....except for the pre-existing book series.
Just wanted to nip in and say that if you haven't seen The Knick then fucking do it it's the god damn best show on TV right now by far
the new episode of the BBC series Luther is essentially a movie and it was pretty meh. idris elba continues to be the man, but i thought it tried to juggle too much, with two seperate plots (one being a cannibal serial killer, one being his hunt for the truth about alice). both were handled fairly well, but it felt like it was a little disorganized. in hindsight, the episode would have sucked ass if it werent for idris elba
So I watched the Original Trilogy last night and saw the Force Awakens just now. Here we go... Star Wars 10/10: Star Wars will probably forever be THE example of a perfectly executed 3 act structured movie. An absolute classic that deserves its reputation. It isn't just some dumb action movie, it perfectly builds its world and characters to a fine point. It seems tangible. The Empire Strikes Back 10/10*: I would consider this a perfect film. The time really flows by, that it seems like a total journey. After watching the movie you feel like a long time has passed when its only been like 2 hours. The characters and themes of the first movie are greatly expanded and all said characters grow as people. Its amazing. (*The asterisk is to denote that this is my favorite Star Wars movie) Return of the Jedi 9/10: Much like Darth Vader, I have a lot of inner conflict with this one. The Jabba Tatooine, Emperor, and Death Star battle parts of the movie are absolutely legendary. However, there are some scenes that I feel are pointless and detract from the movie, such as C-3PO telling stories to the Ewoks. But the great scenes are so great that it keeps me from giving it a lower grade. That's how good it is. The Force Awakens 8/10 or 9/10: Why the "or"? Well I honestly can't decide and I don't like decimal point scores. The movie is pretty damn good with some really great scenes. The issues I would have with it is that there's some pretty major pacing problems (especially in the beginning where character's first interactions go by really quick) and not knowing what happened in the 30 year gap from the OT. I really like the characters though. They're fast and witty, as well as having some actual depth and arcs. I REALLY love Rey as a character. It definitely stands as it's own movie too. I don't think seeing the other movies is needed, but there's some cool throwbacks. I might like this even more depending on the next movies because this one seems like a great jump-off point. Rewatching it with knowing what will happen in the future might just enhance it.
Rollerball (1975) - Wow, I was really surprised by this one. By the name, date, and premise, one would initially assume it is a cheesy 70s B-movie, but it really is not. Surprisingly serious and has a lot more sociopolitical commentary than expected. While most dystopian films would place their protagonist in an obviously evil society, this film places the protagonist in what dystopias should be: a flawed utopia. One thing I found to be really well done was [sp]how the movie opens with a Rollerball game where although violent, is stylish and still made out to be a game. The players are agile and quick. As the film progresses the games get slower and clumsier. By the end it is obviously changed, but it seems as the plot drove it so opposed to the director forcing it that way for shock value. It is simple cause and effect.[/sp] There is great contrast between the action and violence with the actual scenes of dialogue. Due to this it feels almost as if it is ahead of its time resembling structures of some more modern films.
The new star wars movie. eh, 5/10 worth a watch I guess. Plot didnt really have much holding it together, and the whole thing was based off of huge coincidences and "gee isnt that convenient for the writers" moments. Characters were pretty bad too. The antagonist was super weak and angsty. The protagonist was pretty mary sue [sp] force sensitive junk collector peasant with tragic backstory automatically knows how to fly a giant ancient obscure POS spaceship well enough to out-maneuver well trained imperial tie pilots, and can use a lightsaber she'd never used before to fight and beat a weak and angsty (while well trained) sith, ect ect.[/sp]

Serously though, she is probably the most boring character in the whole movie. She lacks natural charisma of Boyega (which makes him at least memorable), and her acting is virtually Twilight tier. To be honest, the whole cast (except maybe Ford) is so mediocre and burlesque that i can't help the feeling they are just sacrificial lambs kept alive just to be killed in the next episode. Which makes me wonder what disney is going to do with the next cast, because the only decent actor has obviously decided that it's better to die than to continue starring in the series. [/sp]
Alright just watched Star Wars fucking wow. I mean....come on man. I had EVERY reason to be a little bit cynical coming towards this film, all the marketing, the hype, all the fat moms and turbo bazinga nerds who pretended to be huge star wars fanatics to fit in when this movie got announced. But holy fuck, I am just going to speak on JUST the visuals here, the cinematography. Fucking BEAUTIFUL. A revival of the long lost spirit of creative filmmaking with HUGE ambition. I almost got a little teary eyed. Not because im a Star Wars fan, but because I still believe in some sort of human artistic spirit in film. I believe you can bring out romantical emotions from visuals and atmosphere much like 19-20th century composers and writers sought to do. The only 2 negatives I have is that the movie kinda sorta follows the same formula as A New Hope, and the ship battle scenes were VERY j.j abrams-y and it felt kind of like a visual overload sometimes. But I mean, I was fucking SUCKED IN. Holy shit. I haven't felt that way with a movie in a long time. Not since like...fucking watching The Fellowship of The Ring in theaters. I swear to god if people don't start trying to follow the standards set by the movie in terms of attention to craft, detail, and spirit. Because this really rekindled a fucking dying ember. This and Mad Max Fury Road this year. I love movies bro. I love movies. Shit and holy fuck JJ Abrams agrees with me! Jedi and Sith should not fight like fucking gymnastic ninjas. Those lightsaber duels felt like a REAL fucking sword fight. Like they were actually fighting like the knights/samurai the jedi knights were inspired by. Yes! No more fucking Matrix fights im hoping! im jazzed right now bro. Beautiful movie. Beautiful. So creative. Huge props to everyone at the team who made this movie.
shoot em up is easily one of the best actions films ever made. its francting as hell and while it doesnt take itself seriusly at all it delivers a fucking punchline at every second. its one of my favorite action movies of all time.
Sicario. I loved the movie, definitely deserves to be one of 2015's best, but it still feels like something small is missing. 9.95/10

I liked the antagonist, a nice change when compared to darth vader (who in a new hope is pretty much the most cliche' bad guy of all time), he has an actual personality and internal conflicts and is not bad just to be a bad guy. And it's mentioned that he's not fully trained, so it's to be expected that he's not unbeatable. And yea, ray being a scavenger having to live alone and defend herself from thieves with her lance/staff weapon and who grew up around space ships and tech knows how to fight and fly a ship, big surprise.[/sp]
have people heard of a film this year called "Room"? I'm hearing it's one of the strongest, personal ones but I never saw it... maybe because it's called Room. :/

nooooo don't talk about The Room! I'm talking about that new Room movie.

[editline]20th December 2015[/editline] pretty pumped to see it considering the amount of good reviews it's been getting and the author seems to like it a lot too
Interstellar: The movie is pretty good, and I enjoyed it all the way through. However, I felt like it over-explained some aspects, and under-explained others. Because of this, there were some sections of the movie I didn't really understand. [sp]The twist with Mann could have been pulled off much better, in my opinion. The whole seen felt rather lousy. Oh, and the "ghost" sequence in the black hole. It kinda felt like an idea that was scrapped from Inception and shoehorned into Interstellar.[/sp] I think it could have been wrapped up much better. Final verdict: 7/10 Moon: The story is great. I really enjoyed it, and the soundtrack complimented it very well. However, the main premise behind the movie feels somewhat underdeveloped. I think they could have done a lot more if it wasn't compressed into an hour and thirty minutes. [sp]I kinda wanted to see a bit more involving the live call between Sam and his daughter, and perhaps what happens when Sam's clone returns to Earth, and how Lunar Industries reacts to that.[/sp] Final verdict: 8/10
really? i thought Moon ended perfectly, IMO any [sp]interaction with his real family[/sp] wouldn't have added anything substantial
really? i thought Moon ended perfectly, IMO any [sp]interaction with his real family[/sp] wouldn't have added anything substantial
I just kinda wanted to see what would happen if [sp]the Sam Bell on Earth took over the call, and whether or not he knew what Lunar Industries were doing. The clones didn't know, but the original Sam Bell might've known.[/sp]

[editline]20th December 2015[/editline] it was the perfect ending for me btw, loved that film.
