Honestly most of the front-running movies for Best Picture this year look pretty good
Besides maybe that David O. Russell movie but that's just a given nowadays
Raiders of the Lost Ark
9/10
Fantastic movie all around, really, really fun. Though people consider it to be a tad overrated, every time I watch it, I see something new that I like
It looks kinda
trailers are shit
cant say ive ever heard anyone mention that they find raiders overrated
also nothing wrong with oscar bait when it's a good film :/

Boyhood was good. Same with 12 Years a Slave, despite being two very obvious Oscarbaits.
cant say ive ever heard anyone mention that they find raiders overrated
to be honest i will always consider the last crusade to be the best
This is the first time I've heard the term "Oscarbait"
The book Room was actually really interesting because it was written from the perspective of the five year old kid, so hearing his side of the story where he doesn't really get the situation they're in made it unique. I'm afraid that the adaptation loses that since it's not possible to make that work through a movie.
I really want to see Carol but it's apparently not even coming to the theaters in my state
Damn you Todd Haynes

Good news is whenever an awards season starts, also bootleg copies of screeners starts to resurface around the web. I already saw mentions of The Revenant and Hateful Eight so watch out for all kinds of spoilers.
so for someone who has never seen another star wars film, if i went to see the force awakens would i be in for a pretty crazy ride?
so for someone who has never seen another star wars film, if i went to see the force awakens would i be in for a pretty crazy ride?
no, you'd be missing out on the annoyingly constant references, but everything is established pretty well and anything important from the old movies you'll recognise through sheer osmosis
still, you should watch the original trilogy regardless
people who havent seen any of the star wars movies actually exist??
force awakens
i'm not a rabid fan but episode 7 is definitely a good start for a promising new trilogy: the movie itself isn't groundbreaking, instead it perfectly lays the foundations for the next two movies.
the parallelism with a new hope is crystal clear but it didn't bother me and the various references gave me some good chuckles.
the only problem i had with TFA was with its pace which kinda spoiled the characters and the interactions between them. nonetheless kylo ren was a good villain and the rest of the cast did a really fine job even if their characters were pretty much iterations of the original trilogy (except for finn who i also really liked)
abrams played safe with episode 7 and i totally understand his decision but i hope that episode 8 and 9 will bring something new to the table
i saw spectre it was crap
i saw spectre it was crap
I'm all for having an opinion, but you should probably explain why it was crap.
If I recall correctly, the [sp]cloned Sam did return to Earth and sued the Lunar Industries[/sp], it's the narration in the style of News Report after the shuttle is launched and the camera panned to Earth.

it was the perfect ending for me btw, loved that film.
[sp]Jones is planning a follow-up graphic novel, titled Mute, which will serve as an epilogue to Moon. Should the project progress to a film, "Sam has agreed to do a little cameo in the next film", says Jones, who ultimately hopes to complete a trilogy of films set in the same fictional universe.[/sp]

thats actually pretty dissapointing
Resident Evil (2002) - 8/10
The original and the best, save for some shitty dialogue and CGI.
The other films don't come close to the first one.
Amelie - wiewiewie/MaxofS2D
[sp]It's a lovely movie/10[/sp]
Entertainment - 8/10
If you want to see a movie about Neal Hamburger becoming more depressed and isolated over the span of a few days, this movie is for you.
Star Wars The Force Awakens - 8.5/10
If you want to see a movie about Star Wars Prequel fans becoming more depressed and isolated over the span of a few days, this movie is for you.

hot damn that was good. i might have to rate birdman over it as of now, but they're radically different films.
really, i should watch both back to back. seriously great performances by leo and hardy, i can definitely see hardy getting a best supporting actor nom, and hopefully a win.
Went to see The Force Awakens again, but this time with my dad.
9/10, man. I think I like it almost as much as A New Hope now that I've seen it twice.
Yeah, I saw it again as well (this time with my brothers). I think my love for it is definitely on Par with ANH. There's so much little stuff I picked up on as well, it was nice.
So in the past couple days, I've been pretty busy with kicking stuff off my "to-watch" list. Here's a very brief summary.
Great (8/10)
Boogie Nights
Clerks
Pi
Place Beyond The Pines
Good (7/10)
Eyes Wide Shut
It's Such A Beautiful Day
The Master
Primer
Ok (6/10)
Lost In Translation
Tremors - 8/10
Hell yeah! Can't believe I haven't seen this before - it was really fun with great characters, fun lines, and crazy monsters.
I think some of y'all are Tremors fans - are any of the sequels worth a look?
Bubba Ho-Tep - Only film I've ever seen with both Elvis and JFK as protagonists. Bruce Campbell is awesome in it as expected and has a surprisingly sad message about the way the elderly are often treated.

Great (8/10)
Boogie Nights
Heeeeeeell yeah I love Boogie Nights, it's probably my favorite PTA film
I'm all for having an opinion, but you should probably explain why it was crap.
i thought overall it was a whole lot less believable than craigs last 3 films, and i watched all 3 of them the night before seeing spectre. so ill make some points on it
[sp]- I though the main villains motivations were hazy at best. okay he was a kid and felt left out when bond was adopted? hardly felt like enough motivation to be the "catalyst of all bonds suffering" (his words) in the last 3 films. and not only that, all the surveilance he had built an empire out of, just seemed pointless and wasnt very clear what his primary goals were besides messing with bond.
-specifically, i thought the scene where bond escaped the villains HQ was really poorly done and lazy. small bomb goes off, he escapes the room, shoots a couple bad guys and a gas tank and the entire base just explodes completely? it just felt rushed, and like they didn't know how to write a better way for him to escape the situation.
-the villain and movie itself touts itself as being tied to the previous 3 films, but i didn't think it really was any more interconnected than a series of references to the previous films. the only real connection maybe being the new M from the end of skyfall, serving as a hook for this movie.. that was really it.
-i found the final scene a real let down and anti climatic. a bomb in a building with not enough time to save himself, AND the girl, who is tied up somewhere. felt like weak scenario from a superhero movie.
-and that brings me to my last point. bond just seemed too powerful and heroic in this film. gone is the bond from previous films who goes into cardiac arrest, gets tortured, or gets beat the hell up (well, it happens maybe one time in the movie, but its the exception). he goes through the film, almost unstoppable. and even shoots down a helicopter with his handgun. just wasn't feeling the consequences in this, like he was going to succeed no matter what happens. i enjoyed the grounded approach the previous films brought to the bond franchise, but this was more like a complete 180 on that, like the bond movies of the 80's and 90's. felt silly watching craig do it.[/sp]
Kiki's Delivery Service (Live Action):
I wasn't going into this with high expectations. It was enjoyable, but it'll never be the animated version. Maybe stream it if you're interested. 6.5 or 7/10
Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge:
I though this one was going to have a bit more action in it based on the poster. Boy was i wrong. It ended up being more of a love story with a guy that has a chainsaw in the background. 4.5/10
