Lol how can an opinion be wrong? An opinion is just that, somebody's personal thoughts on something.
Yeah but some people's opinions are dumb and incorrect.
Yeah but some people's opinions are dumb and incorrect.
Dumb yes. Incorrect no. Even if someone says Genisys or AoU was a good movie I'm not gonna say that their opinion is flat out "wrong" no matter how asinine I may believe it to be.
depend entirely on how it's justified tho
that's why I hate ratings. My 10/10 is way out of sync with the majority in this thread.

And I disagree (strongly) with that review, but I'm not going to say him liking and enjoying the movie is wrong. Though I will say that Mike Seitz doesn't really know how to make a proper film and does get a lot of the objective stuff wrong.

what are they?
Watch Thin Red Line if you like war films
just to throw in my two cents
boy i fucking hate the thin red line. it's such a big wank. terrence malick has no idea how to make a coherent film. it's a plot-less movie that tries to be profound and falls totally flat because of how shallow it really is.
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline]
if i had to choose some of my fave war films, i'd say letters from iwo jima, platoon & apocalypse now (i prefer redux). letters probably being my favourite as it's a far fresher take on ww2 that's so rarely seen in western cinema. although i never saw flags of our fathers
what are they?
life changing/influencing.
anywhere 9-10 has a deep personal meaning
i cant be arsed to r8 based on editing and graphics.
Yeah, I feel like people itt throw out high ratings for everything. There are very few films that are a 9, and even less that reach a 10 for me
[editline]22nd December 2015[/editline]
Not to mention I know very very very little about the technical side of things or acting so I don't try to critique a film based on that. Unless it's noticeably bad
also terence malick is supreme but ye i'm not fully onboard with the current cut of thin red line... esp how he sliced out stuff like this:

who knows what else they cut....

He shot 1 million feet of film and cut it from a 6 hour run time. Adrien Brody was supposed to be the main character. He cut it into a film that felt right for him (which if you watch To the Wonder you'll see his taste is definitely not palpable to a wide audience). Regardless it's a war film that doesn't play out like any other war movie, and for that reason alone it's worth seeing. Your enjoyment will be based on your expectations. Approach it more as a fine art film (how it makes you feel), rather than a traditional film. It's not pseudo-philosophical BS, it's just emotionally strong and factually fluid
ye but his other films were a lot more complete imo

Holy shit, you're the first person aside from me I've ever seen call Letter from Iwo Jima their favourite war movie.
God that movie's good.
hot damn that was good. i might have to rate birdman over it as of now, but they're radically different films.
really, i should watch both back to back. seriously great performances by leo and hardy, i can definitely see hardy getting a best supporting actor nom, and hopefully a win.
How did you see it? It's not even released yet, and the pirated copies are probably 500x300 res quality
i'd also really like to see Come and See. i hear it's pretty full on

ye im lookin pretty down on anybody who rates hateful 8 or revenant before release
probably dont do it, guys
(why you'd watch good movies in that qual is beyond me too)

The Revenant is known for it's extreme quality of cinematography and scenery; so what's the point by watching in such bad image quality.
Star Wars The Force Awakens
It was good. Not earth shattering or anything, but it's a far cry from the prequels and probably one of JJs best, if not his best, movie. The new characters are nice, Boyega, Ridley and Issac were great, same with Driver. Harrison Ford stood out though. He seemed to give his first real performance in years instead of just showing up for a paycheck. And the lightsaber fights kicked ass. They were sparse, but instead of being light and airy a la the prequels, they felt rough and raw. Same with the dog fights. Sure, the movie played all of its cards close to the chest, but I don't blame them. Playing it safe was the right call for this movie, and it leaves the door open for something cool. I can't wait to see what Rian Johnson does with episode 8

no, i mean which films.

Come and See is by far my favorite war film, I can't think of a single element out of place. Incredibly immersive and not sugar coated in any way possible, and I doubt I'll ever forget it
Re: Terrence Malick. I really love Tree of Life despite its flaws, because it's refreshing to see a filmmaker that clearly puts his very private beliefs and philosophies into his work. Generally with Malick you either love him or hate him, there is no middle ground

rip automerge
Speaking of war movies, I watched Memphis Belle yesterday. Enjoyable, but it kind of feels like a TV movie at times, and it's cliched as hell. It's the kind of movie you could watch with your dad on a lazy afternoon.
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline]
I think I enjoyed it more because my grandfather flew a B-17 like in movie (he was a ball turret gunner) and it was interesting to see all that
The Prestige
HOLY SHIT. This is the single best mindfuck movie I've ever seen and overtakes Interstellar, Dark Knight, and Memento as my favorite Nolan movie.
says the man who has seen 4 films total

I like the Prestige a lot, the only Nolan film that I've seen that I really liked (haven't seen his earlier work though). I feel like all his movies after draw so heavily from it thematically
The Elephant Man - Damn, that was really good, although very sad. Amazing how Hurt was able to act so well even under all of his makeup. Lynch truly is a genius.
I need to see Elephant Man sometime soon. And on the topic of David Lynch, I just finished Mulholland Drive. I've been meaning to watch it for a super long time, but finally got around to it. I noticed right away that it has this odd, hard to describe eeriness to it. Everything just feels uncanny and dream like the whole time, with how the characters act and all the soft diffuse lighting and the Angelo Badalamenti music. It's definitely something that you have to experience for yourself, and definitely something that I'll have to experience again eventually. The movie is an interesting ride with all those twists and turns you expect from Lynch. Plus it has Michael J. Anderson, and how can you not love him?

too nolan-y for me
my heart can only take so many twists and michael caine exposition scenes
Just watched Bahubali what an amazing peace of art. just loved it man. Will give ten out of ten.

I like the prestige, but I saw the twist coming from a mile away. already the [sp]shot of the top hats[/sp] gave it away, and its like halfway through the movie. They could have worked on keeping the plot twist a bit more difficult to guess.
Speaking of twists, did anyone else think that the twist in Predestination just ruins the whole fucking movie? It just makes the whole movie make no goddamn sense at all and makes it all seem really fucking stupid.

really? I thought it was cool that [sp]besides one character the whole film was the barman in his time loop, in comparison to the original story the addition of the "fizzle bomber" was a little haphazardly thrown in, but it still continues the whole theme of the barman's entire existence basically being only himself from the cradle to the grave.[/sp]
[editline]23rd December 2015[/editline]
idk I just love that kind of time loop stuff and I was already a fan of the short story beforehand so that leaves me biased, plus I love Ethan Hawke
