as someone who's never played any witcher game would I be ok to play 3 or would I be better buying the others first to understand what is going on?
You don't have to get a license to drive a car, but you can still attempt to drive it.
The point: the entire Witcher universe is extremely lore heavy. There is a series of series of books even that addresses the backstory. Although like movies the games themselves have self contained story, but all of the games are a part of a large story and contain several large political forces all battling each other. Each game is around 50 hours long if 100% completion is sought after.
The first game is comfy but criticized for its gameplay. The second one has a more 1v1 gameplay style but leads you to mostly fighting humans instead of monsters. An official mod made by the game's developers also vastly improves the combat and adds in new features and animations, while also rebalancing the game to make it more fun.
Sums it up quite well.
She's either that or a bruxa and usually Witchers (at least Geralt) don't kill sentient creatures.
By the way, this trailer was created by Digic Pictures (Who are known for their Assassins Creed cinematic trailers) not Platige Image that did all previous CGI trailers.. Not like that matters much, just saying.
I thought it wasn't sentient creatures as much as he doesn't kill anything that isn't in the wrong, because in every game you kill sentient creatures, including hordes of humans and vampires and stuff.
The trailer was so beautifully made, so real amazing.
Tears.

pretty much this
iirc geralt has a pretty long talk with an elf in the books about the differences between monsters and beasts
can't for the life of me remember the name of that elf though, would love to know it if anyone else can
I was blown away by The Witcher 2's intro cinematic and am again blown away at the quality of this one.
Amazing trailer. Can't wait for Tuesday

Fuckin' Vampires.

They managed to surpass TW2's intro and that is quite the achievement.
Full length film when?
holy shit this game is metal
what the fuck that looked real
what the fuck that looked real
It's an example of what can be achieved with CGI when you attempt something other than copying Pixar. It's like, we're at the point where animation can cross the uncanny valley and actually achieve photorealism in visuals and fluidity but we're still stylizing like it's 1999.
I want a Witcher movie by the team that made this.
I don't. I think the Witcher would be better off with a Game of Thrones style TV show, following multiple characters in different places in the world which fleshes it out making it feel real and alive.

Hah, there was already a TV series of Witcher in here [sp]and it was horrible[/sp]

That's a shame, but still, I think the Witcher lends it self more to a series than a movie. A studio can fuck up a series or a movie and it'd have nothing to do with the source material.

Seriously? I have to look at this

Maybe its because stylizing cg is much more interesting then just creating realistic characters. We've had attenpts like Avatar, Beowulf, and such. To me there just doesn't seem to be a point when we can just use real life.

13 episodes and even a movie. There's no subtitles and I don't think there ever will be though
Knock yourself out

I don't know how you're going to achieve floating islands, 8 legged horses, flying things in real life.
I didn't quite like the combat in the 1st one, but I didn't get far enough to fairly judge the game at all, did they change it / improve it in 2/3?
the combat system was odd to me, I guess, is there any videos explaining maybe better how I can play 1? or should I see how 2 works and get that?
what the fuck that looked real
It looked good but not once did I think that it was real.
I love how realistic cgi is getting now.
this is exactly the same thing people said 10 years ago, even 20. "Games can't get better looking than this"
it only improves more, and more, and every 5 years is a huge improvement.

It was a lot different in 2, where parrying became a skill far along into the combat tree and until you unlocked it you rolled like it's Souls. I've heard the "developer mod" fixes that and a lot of other gameplay niggles, though.

booting up 1 and giving it another try, looking at a guide it looks interesting but I need to just try it for myself

does 2 have this stupid combo / fast and strong style system in it?

No. 2 is more of a general action combat system with lots of rolling. Lots and lots of rolling.

TW2 does away with the silly "styles" system and implements light and heavy attack which you can chain however you like. It gets about 35% Dark Souls-ey.

"far into the combat tree," that's super misleading. You can (at least in the current version of witcher 2, no mods) parry from the start, get parry from all directions by level 3 (it's the second skill in the training tree, you basically have to take it - there's no other choice at that level to progress further into the tree) and get riposting as the second skill you take in the swordsman tree (tier 2 out of 8)
On normal you can play with parries from the start, but it depends on the enemies you are fighting. And you will always have to use rolls against some enemies like gargoyles or golems (most monsters actually, parrying is usually just effective against weapon-wielding foes).

the styles system is way better than the generic action rpg combat tw2 and tw3 has.
the styles system is way better than the generic action rpg combat tw2 and tw3 has.
I personally thought it was interesting although not as much developed as it should be, well first game was made on a very tight budget and with little workforce.
the styles system is way better than the generic action rpg combat tw2 and tw3 has.
I admit that the fighting system was at least interesting for its uniqueness, but I find the so-called "generic action RPG combat" is more intuitive, effective and gratifying.

I was talking about creating full CGI movies, maybe I misunderstood the post I was replying to. CGI mixed in with real set pieces always feels better to me when dealing with realistic imagery.
