Thank you all so much for your kind words... it really does mean a lot. I'm not just saying that, I was crying reading these responses. The surgeon visited me about 10 minutes ago... they now decided to keep me awake during the surgery. I guess since so much of it is on my speech center, they want to check each area and see if I can still speak, count and recognize shapes. This is bittersweet. I know its for the best but I'm still really scared. I wanted to go to sleep and wake up with everything finished. I haven't eaten since 10pm last night, surgery is scheduled for 6:00pm. Again, thank you all.
Main thing is to keep a positive attitude man. I wish you all the best, and it must suck that you're awake during it. I wish you a speedy recovery mate! From Liverpool, UK!
I fucking hate it when doctors just try and rush you out of the office prescribing shit which obviously won't work. I went to the doctors about a skin condition 2 weeks ago, and all he did was literally LOOK ON GOOGLE for what I may or may not have, and just gave me some moisturiser. I went to another doctor and was told is was a serious infection and she gave me around 7 different products to try, but I still don't know what's wrong with me. But this is all nothing compared to what you have to go through, good luck man.

This really got to me. I really hope it goes well. My heart goes out to you and to your family, may things turn out for the best.
Live long and prosper, OP.

I cried reading this, but seriously, there is about a 0% chance that the doctor will mess up. [sp]...and even if something does go wrong, you will still be able to type, right? :>[/sp]
What exactly is tunnel vision? Is it like in Garry's Mod where you take the camera tool and zoom all the way in?
Leave this thread.
It's very difficult to comprehend going into a surgery knowing you can speak, then leaving and unable to do so. I hope it all works out.
Well if the worst comes to pass, he could always be like Roger Ebert and get a voice box.
<3 best of luck to you
You will be fine, I don't know you but from your post, you seem like a pretty awesome person. I wish you the best and you'll be in my thoughts, I'm keeping my eye on this thread.
You're going to be awake? :ohdear:
fuuuucck man, this is always my dread all the best dude! stay strong
Doctors mess up all the time.
You're such a great help for inspiration. I aspire to be you.
Shit dude, good luck! Are they going to do the thing where you are still awake so you can speak to them to make sure you still can? Anyway good luck again dude!!
Best of luck mate, seriously, I hope everything turns out for the best. Remember things can always turn out very well, my neighbour had tumours on the brain, given just a few months to live. He went off, got married, made the most of it, and he's still kicking years on, they went into remission. I know you might not be experiencing QUITE the same, but still. Just good luck man. You'll be fine
I'm genuinely inspired and cannot hope to understand what you're going through right now. If it helps, know that someone on the other end of the world is concerned for you. I seriously wish you the best. We've made major strides in medicine through the ages, they'll come through. Be sure to update your situation after you recover!
Best of luck, don't tear yourself you about it.
you will be fine OP :unsmith:
Best of luck, OP.
you must be really strong <3 to go through all this and more, you're lucky to have such an amazing family supporting you as well as all of us <3
Chin up OP, I understand it won't be your first concern, you've a wife, kids, friends and the like to see, but do let us know how it goes, we're in this with you dude :buddy:
Nearly cried reading that, OP. I can't imagine what It'd be like to be going through all this. Good luck, man.
Jesus christ, I think my reaction if I had this news would be to shit myself and hide in a corner rather than post it on the internet. Good luck man, I hope it goes well.
Wish you the best OP.
Good luck OP; You'll come through fine.
Even though I don't know you, get well soon!
I've never been knocked out for surgery, but people say you just wake back up like nothing happened
kinda, when you wakeup the anesthesia will cause you to feel very tired still and you can be dizzy and dazed for a little bit afterwards, but essentially you just wakeup and feel like you just slept for a while. when i had my colon removed i only had the things i mentioned up there^, but again this is just my instance, no medical degree here
