I'm gonna order the stupid KAC wrench when I get home tonight. I'll hand tighten everything just so it's all put together and when I get the wrench I'll do it properly. I won't shoot it until after I get the wrench. Anyone have any tips for removing the standard barrel nut? This ones on tighter than a Thai hooker and I can't get it off. I have a vice block coming in the mail tomorrow that may help. But I heard some people put them in the freezer or take propane torches to them.
Thanks! I didn't even have to convince my wife to let me get it, she actually wanted me to. I walked by it, and she said "Your birthday is in four months, you want that?" and pointed to it. It was a bit of a tossup between this and one of those Century Arms HK91 clone type rifles. The ones they had were used and a little rusty, so I decided on the new gun that was half as much.
I like my CA HK clone. It runs dirty but it's a solid rifle.
They look cool as all hell are are built to last. I definitely want one, just not that one. Too much reciever rust and gummed up action for $1400.
I would buy a C93 if there was any real reason for me to dump more money on a 5.56 rifle. [editline]16th July 2015[/editline] I wish some of these companies, like DSA or someone, would make a reproduction FNC. I would definitely pay $1.5k for such a creature.
Just ordered the last C93 from Krebs Custom. It's going to be a little over $700 with transfer, but it's coming with the normal stock, a folding stock, and 8 mags. To me, that's not a bad deal. If something is wrong with it, I can send it out to a guy on the HKPro forums to fix it.

Now that I have a decentish jobe I'm trying to find an AR to buy. Looks like the AR556 is the best budget AR you can nab. Don't want anything fancy, if anything, I'd want to put a carry handle on it just because I like the look of it. They seem to have a good reputation, anyone have any experience with them? Takes most aftermarket parts, right? I've heard it has like two proprietary screws or something, otherwise you can put mostly anything on it, right?

The M&P Sport is a solid option also and uses a standard delta ring and barrel nut. PSA's rifles are always on sale. Generally you can get a Magpul edition of their rifle for not much more than the S&W or Ruger rifles. Del Ton sells some nice kits to put together into a rifle. It can be cheaper if you are looking for a specific look. If you're just looking for a range gun, even a DPMS would work since you would be not depending on it for defense or running it hard.

Swapped all the furniture with no issues, except for the screw for the pistol grip being tight as fuck at first
Buy a Daniel Defense and be a cool guy like me. :lick:
My shotgun has a full choke. Can I shoot trap with it?
If you are very accurate. And also don't use steel shot.
There's a clay pigeon thrower thingy on craigslist for like a hundred bucks so I was thinking about picking it up to shoot trap.
That's what I intended. But I was looking for a bit deeper feedback, like which ones do people use and like?
I used to be a fan of absolute cowitness, but ended up with a second hand LaRue mount for my T-1 way back when. I love that I get the full field of view even with a fixed front sight post on my AR.
There's a clay pigeon thrower thingy on craigslist for like a hundred bucks so I was thinking about picking it up to shoot trap.
Do eeeeet! Especially if you have property and a buddy to use it. I really wish I could shoot trap more frequently than I do. I never have the chance to do it but about once a year. [editline]17th July 2015[/editline] Also, yes, you can use full, but most people find it adversely affects their trap shooting. I personally run modified in mine, since that's what I hunt with, and I've just gotten used to it, but a lot of people won't.
I can't alter the choke on my Model 10, so I was just seeing if full was good for shooting trap. I'd have to bring the thing out to my buddy's ranch to do it probably, it's like a 2 hour drive.
So this was annouced: http://www.ruger.com/micros/rpr/

I picked up two boxes of subsonic ammo for it and I really want to see how much quieter it is over standard CCI Stinger.

Today I learned something about the Mosin. You know how you can forcibly de-cock it by turning the back part and taking it off that rail? Well I store mine like that because I need the bolt open due to how far the bolt sticks out when it's closed and I want the gun de-cocked. Well with the bolt forcibly de-cocked, I took it out of my gun. I then had to disassemble the whole bolt and put it back together in order to get it to fit back into the gun, because it wouldn't go back in with it forcibly de-cocked. I don't know if it's because some part slipped out of somewhere, but it just wouldn't fit back in. It was annoying. I now know to put that back part back into the rail before taking my bolt out next time. Also I bought a cordless de-humidifier 2 weeks ago for my safe. I charged it when I first bought it. Today I discovered that I probably needed to charge it again a while ago, because it was indicating wet and my guns were indicating rust.
At the beach, so that means shooting, everyday. 870, savage 17hmr, AR15 with a bump fire stock, SKS, and a marlin 795 .22, plus a Beretta 92 and a s&w glock copy. Life is good. [editline]18th July 2015[/editline] Also almost 40 lbs of binary explosive

My dad got a Cobra 380 today for 99 bucks at the local gun shop.

I feel like this gun has long since passed that point.
My dad got a Cobra 380 today for 99 bucks at the local gun shop.
Is this for fun/to see, or is this for serious home/self defense?
Is this for fun/to see, or is this for serious home/self defense?
For fun and to see. He doesn't have high expectations after reviews, was hesitant, and depending on how well it functions may be used for home defense. Kinda doubtful on that last one though. I kinda convinced him to get it, just because I want to see what a 99 dollar pistol can do.
Those Cobras are actually decent pistols, particularly for the price point. They aren't exceedingly great at anything but they are relatively accurate and functional little pistols. You can spend a lot more and get a lot worse. They aren't really finished from the factory and they have a break-in period. The recoil spring could be stronger, but if you take it apart, clean it of all the metal shavings that their machine apparently doesn't blow off, give it a good oiling, and work out the magazine spring a bit it'll be OK as long as you aren't shooting super light ammo.
I was shooting some ~50 to 70 year old .303 British (Surplus World War 2 ammo and Winchester-made rounds from the early-mid sixties) from my No.5 Enfield and could barely hit the targets at 25 yards, whereas I put ten Nugget rounds into an area about the size of my palm. I'm a pathetic weakling but that shouldn't affect my Enfield aim that much because the gun is about half the size and weight of the Nugget. Both guns were fired while sitting. IIRC, last time I shot the Enfield using Federal ammo a few months ago it was still a bit wide but not nearly that bad. Is this a problem with the ammo, or am I just incompetent / the sights are totally fucked on the No. 5? It seemed a little more concentrated when I used the ring sights rather than the pinhole sight, but still super wide.
Old surplus 303 is awful, the powder (cordite sticks, really) expires and gives really inconsistent pressures and it's corrosive to boot. Give your Enfield a good scrubbing and use the surplus stuff for display. Personal experience talking.

Canadian WW-II stuff is non-corrosive, and IIRC English is too. Also how's your barrel? If the gun's in good shape, either it's your ammo, your sights, or you, because my No4 is a more accurate gun than I am. Try having someone you know doesn't suck shoot it. If they can do well, it's you.
