Finally got some proper slow motion footage of the Mini 14. I fired the rifle without the flash suppressor, and was amazed by the massive fireball when I fired. Fortunately, my cellphone also captured the fireball at 120fps.
Subscriptions and all that are very much appreciated, if you guys find my videos interesting :)
Well it's not a bad idea. I had two stuck cases when I fired again, except the first didn't separate like the rest and I was able to pull it out with the bolt. The fucking metal of the blasting cap on that round exploded and hit me in the lip, though it's nothing serious. After a few more rounds I had another stuck case. Again knocked it out with cerrosafe.
Does anyone have experience with 5.45 ammunition? My first box of 30 rounds were WPA HP 55 grain with one case separation, my next 60 rounds I got are WPA FMJ 60 grain with two case separations.
The Wolf 55gr HP is noted to cause issues with FTF due to bullet length; I've run hundreds of rounds of Wolf 60gr FMJ no problem through my kit built AKS-74, and it runs 7n6 without issue.
I've only see stuck cases with Red Army Standard 69gr so far.

That was one odd thing I noticed when I put one HP next to a FMJ round, the FMJ just fit in the mag better and don't "stove pipe" in the magazine like the HP were doing. But they had double the case failures as the HP.
I finally found AR500s weakness, Tannerite.

Anyone know a good place that does custom kydex I can give my business? I got some pepper spray but I want a good IWB holster for it.
Alien Gear Holsters.
So apparently I'm going hunting for the first time on the 17th for waterfowl with a bunch of other important people from the hunting department at work. When we all asked the manager for the day off he thought we were kidding, since at least one of the four of us is always there.
OK I dunno if I'm high or crazy or something, but looking at these WPA 5.45 rounds I got, it looks like they're... recycled? I dunno how to put it, it looks like the ass end of the round with the primer had been welded and ground onto a new casing, because I can notice a "ring" around the ass end of the bullets that aren't a uniform ring but look jagged. It's really hard to tell in my picture because my phone camera quality sucks, but that ring goes around the casing at around the same spot as that broken round to the side.

Probably not recycled, most likely a factory error that made it past quality control.
I've seen that with all manufacturers. Hell once I got a proof round in a box of windcheater .308. Don't want to be shooting that

Follow through that shit. But, it is honestly the greatest kind of hunting that you can do with friends. It's a pretty social affair, and you can just talk and waste time until a group comes blazing through. (Just stay dry...)

Yea, although have shells on hand in case you need to move quick, or at least that's what I always did.

It took me a minute to realize you weren't talking about lead shot, which is much more effective than steel but illegal to use, but leading the bird.

I think when it's spray-painted to an AA gun, it applies in both meanings of the word.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but hollow-points expand on impact
Those AR500 plates are the same plates that are being given away for free with a taser purchase right? Or am i thinking another company?
I'm starting to have second thoughts about dropping a bolt in a .303 rifle that hasn't had one for 40 years and pulling the trigger. But second thoughts have never gotten me anywhere. Bolt arrives on Thursday, test firing on Saturday.

Place yourself behind a sturdy wall and pull the trigger with a string. Worst case scenario, your bricks get pelted by shrapnel and you wasted 50 bucks.
[editline]23rd September 2015[/editline]
Unless the ATF raids you for using "trigger" and "string" in the same sentence.
I'm probably just gonna shoot it from the hip first if it headspaces fine as I don't have and can't be bothered to buy a bench rest. It only had surface rust, barely any pitting left over, and I suspect if it gets launched off a table the stock will break. :v: This thing was sporterized (professionally) in the 60s and apparently sat in an attic for 40 years before I bought it for 60 bucks without a bolt when I was 16. First gun I ever bought one way or another so I'd like to actually shoot it. Like most Enfields it is exceptionally comfortable and well balanced, even after being cut down, so it'll be a good truck gun if it doesn't explode.
As long as the metal's still in good shape you should be good to go as long as the headspace is right. I'd recommend getting that checked out before you fire it. Most gunsmiths will either do it for free or for a few bucks since it takes a minute at most. You wouldn't want to have a fine rifle that explodes because the headspace could have been fixed but wasn't.
Since it headspaces off the rim as long as it chambers it'll shoot (I highly doubt the chamber is too tight). Enfields are known to have a pretty open tolerance for headspace, and for the most part unless you plan on reloading it'll be irrelevant so long as the locking lug engages.
I would be more concerned about throat erosion. Enfields are known to have generous chambers, and god knows how many rounds went through that barrel before. Cordite is hell on barrels. It Might chamber and fire fine, but you may not even hit the broad side of a barn even with the rifling intact.

This is what I'm more worried about, .303 is awfully expensive to miss over and over like some kind of chump. There really shouldn't be a headspace issue.
That article is sensationalist as fuck. They're trying to make it sound like it was a miracle the 88 year old man died before he could go on a killing spree with his rifles and shotguns lmao.
"The cache has intrigued police partly because the man had no criminal history.
Also, his selection was wide and varied – seemingly at odds with a collector’s ways."
‘‘These guns here are the upper level – they don’t come any more serious than this,’’
"His [motives] are going to remain a mystery because he’s passed away.’’
"The prohibited weapons included a shortened firearm, a military-style SKS self-loading rifle, a MI30-calibre Carbine self-loading military rifle and a fully-loaded LR.22-calibre Ruger self-loading rifle." Buzzword count: 3
And finally a long emotional appeal piece reminding everyone of a tragedy that happened twenty years previously.
If people elsewhere see shotguns and self loading rifles as a wide variety of upper level killing instruments no wonder they see Americans with 22lr semi auto "military style" rifles and think we're crazy.
When will the fuggin buzzwords end
I saw a Lee turret press here. Should I get it? I've been wanting to enter into reloading and handloading, as I want some 200gr Lead cast spitzer .38s for my soon to be suppressed 77/357. That price seems great, but I've never reloaded before and I don't know exactly what i need.
I bought a reloading kit, unpacked it, was suddenly gripped by a gnawing fear of the unknown, packed it up, and stuffed it under my bed where it has sat for the past year.
wtf?
just read a reloading book?
[editline]23rd September 2015[/editline]
both of you
read it to figure out what you need
The press kit I linked has a manual with it. I'm trying to decide if I really want it, as going into reloading is a slippery slope and I'll end up buying buttloads of other stuff for it.
I would love to get an auto powder measuring unit along with a case prep station from RCBS. Simplifies and speeds up the prep and reloading process while keeping loads accurate. I have the little chuckster so I can only do cases upto 30.06 in size and do one at a time.

I was joking, I bought it for .303 and never used it because my .303 went away before I needed to load for it.
Oh, by the way, NO FUN ALLOWED:

I didn't want one before, but I do now...
I wish I had money to buy silly things like the arm brace or can cannon before they banned them...
Next up, bump fire stocks...
I don't really get why SBR's require all the tax bullshit anyways. I mean, saying that the can cannon is suddenly an SBR sounds more like the ATF going for a money grab from those who are subservient enough to give them $200. Same with suppressors. Paying $200 to not go deaf? What?

1.) Because they could only possibly be used by assassins to be concealed and are super scary (i.e. shoulder thing that goes up).
2.) Exactly.
3.) Again, why would us lowly peasants need what is clearly an assassin's tool, and they're super scary.

Well to be frank it does fit the actual legal definitions of what those items are, unlike the sig brace where they just kind of made it up as they went a long. The Barrel length isn't long enough for it to be considered a Rifle under the legal definition, and as a pistol since it's smooth bore that's automatic grounds for an AOW. Bare in mind when these laws were written there was no such thing as soda cans, and nobody wants to touch NFA stuff with a 10 foot pole because of the possible legal ramifications involved with it.
