So I just had a pretty harrowing experience. I took my dog out for a walk and there was another person walking their dog on the other side of the street. The other dog got loose from their owner and attacked my dog. When I was trying to separate them, my dog accidentally bit my arms a few times. With help of some neighbors, we got them apart fortunately. But there was a moment where I could have gone in my house, grabbed my pistol, and shoot the other dog. It didn't come down to that but it made me think of a couple of things :
Does anyone have a recommendation for anti dog rounds? I've resolved to be concealed carry on walks from now on. I don't ever want to be in a position where I can't defend myself, wife, or dog.
Did you go to the hospital? Animal bites can get mad infected. Cat bites especially almost always lead to a terrible blood infection. If you haven't already, go get yourself checked out.

This James D Julia auction house is less then a mile from me and I've been to a couple of the gun auctions there and seen some really cool stuff

You weigh significantly more than a dog and are better equipped for fighting. Use a knife or an air horn. An air horn will stop a dog fight COLD without hurting either party. Dog boarding places use them for exactly that purpose.
Do NOT discharge a firearm. You will be shooting downward and risk ricochet off whatever surface is behind the dog. Many cities and towns do not permit the discharging of a firearm within city limits. While they generally make an exception for the preservation of human life, protecting your dog may not earn you the same benefit.
Birdshot might cause enough pain to get a dog to back off but requires changing magazines.

My shotgun is setup with buckshot but that would have been too unwieldy and your right, I would have had to change out all my shells.

I make the mistake of going out unarmed (which won't happen again) but the airhorn idea may be something I try in the future.
The other problem was the owner was some lady who lost control of the animal. She was trying to help but wasn't make much of a difference. I was afraid if I went to get something to hit the dog with, she couldn't control things by herself.

Oh yeah I went to the local military hospital. They did a great job. Fortunately, both dogs were up to date on their shots.
I'd get some actual mace to be honest, not just some "peppy spray" you can buy off the shelf. 2 of my dogs we're going at it and actually trying to kill each other.
Even after my dad maced them with the can he got from his dad ( police officer ) they still didn't let go and we're at each other's throats. Most dogs won't do that, but the 'what if' factor makes a big difference.
That's another item on my buy list. Along with an airhorn.

They make mace/pepper spray mixes nowadays, I just picked some up actually.
A little bottle of that is more carry-able than an air horn though.
Edit:
I guess they make tiny airhorns:

I meant birdshot for your handgun. I think they market it as a snake load or something.

Turns your pistol into a jam sandwich though.
tnoutdoors9 had no trouble cycling various snake loads in his various Glocks.

Good for him, but a few tests does not a scientific study make.
That being said, the shot does have a large pattern due to the rifled barrel and you may end up hitting your dog as well.

My cc permit arrived in the mail today, nice and shiny.
So I bought a duck and a goose call over the weekend. Now I just need to learn how to use them before the 17th so I don't embarrass myself.

What's the worst that could happen? You sound like Donald Duck cursing into your duck call. :V

Listen to YouTube videos to get an idea of how to roll your noises and stuff. After that, just see if you can find some clips of actual ducks chattering and try to mimic it. Also, rookie mistake 101, not calling at all is better than calling too much.
I keep my calls in the center console of my truck and do hail, comeback and dabble calls whenever I am at a light or something. Try to get your mallard down first before you go to anything else.
Also, fuck geese calls...

I carry whenever I leave the house. The only exceptions are situations where I could be imprisoned for breaking federal laws by doing so.
Like, literally when I go to get the mail I put my BG380 into a pocket holster and stick it in my pocket for the 1 minute round trip to the mailbox.
And I know that sounds extreme but around in my area I know a guy who during one of the snow storms was shoveling his driveway. He carries but because he figured he'd only be out for five minutes to shovel the end of his drive he would leave it inside. Well some guys in a big ass truck stopped and confronted him because he was allegedly throwing snow in the road or some shit and they started to scream and get verbally combative with him. Next thing you know they let a pitbull out of the truck and threaten to sick it on the guy. He never left his CCW inside after that experience.
I have a mississippi enhanced carry permit which basically means I can carry anywhere I like within the state of mississippi regardless of state signage or local laws. that includes courthouses, public schools, bars, sporting events, airports, etc. the only places I can't carry are police stations, prisons, and private property where the property holder doesn't allow firearms. the permit is also good until the day I die.

It's difficult to have concealed carry all the time because I have to go to a military base for work. I wish they did away with that law.
I dont carry because my its against my work's rules to bring a gun to work. I just leave it in my car.

Federal buildings too, I would assume?

Main reason I haven't even bothered pursuing a CCW yet. It just blows my mind that as members of the military, our game plan for an active shooter is the exact same as a elementary school

They should allow us. I hope that will get overturned one day.

What is your occupation? Unless it was a Federal job or something related to a school I would say fuck it and just not get caught.

I wanna see your gun
Federal buildings too, I would assume?
the enhanced carry permit allows me to carry in federal buildings and state law technically trumps federal law on that but a US Marshal would probably still arrest me if I was caught with a firearm in a federal building.

If it's a pre-lock 27, jump on that. Other wise it's a toss up.
How accurate is this site to find the age of a Remington 870 Express?
